Love the video. I'm now 11 years post menopause; I didn't have HRT or anything, and yes the flushes were quite a thing. I was single at the time and throughout winter I had nothing more than a sheet and thin bedspread on the bed! My biggest ally was the old-fashioned hand-held fan (a colleague used a battery powered one). The fan looked elegant while helping stave off the intense heat, well, a bit anyway. I was lucky to be working in the coldest place in the hospital and believe me, this was a lifesaver at times. I still have the occasional flush but now I find that trying to keep stress-free really helps. The worst aspects have been dryness and itching downstairs, so I try to avoid soap and wash really well with water. Keep drinking plenty of water! And remember, it's a normal part of life, the worst bits will pass. And yes, I also have imposter syndrome, in particular with my piano practice and witchy practice. Time we stood up and owned it!

Thank you so much Denise! I have to say that I hadn't really been on HRT long enough to really feel the benefit before I had to stop it literally overnight! I was very allergic to the patches as well which wasn't fun. So I' just doing the best I can and yes - my massive tower fan is my best friend!! I am lucky enough to work in a beautifully air-conditioned office so I am much better off than a lot of women. A very good friend of mine suffers terribly with vaginal atrophy which has had a huge effect on her, both physically and mentally. I am so glad that we can talk about how we are feeling and what works for us. I don't think that this was the case until fairly recently. And you're absolutely right - it's time we stood up and said 'You know what? I am actually good at this thing I do!!' ❤

@@fifty-somethingwitch2406 Back in the day (I'm only 61!) "women's troubles" just weren't discussed; ok you'd be forewarned about periods but no one really mentioned what to expect about perimenopause. At this stage of life I'm just happy to be here and in reasonable health, having lost friends and family far too soon, every day is a gift; I'm actually enjoying cronehood (I also missed out the mother bit). One of the best bits is you get added Soddit attitude. You are good at this, you've also started a lovely new community; for me, I am going to work on my mindset. Onwards!

Hi Alison, I’m 57 and after being diagnosed with advanced breast cancer at 44 I totally changed all the products we use. I now use mostly the Dr Organics range from Holland & Barrett. I didn’t want to use any products with parabens, SLS and other chemical nasties in etc. I also use Faith by Nature hand soaps too. Even though my cancer was Triple Negative the doctors wouldn’t risk putting me back on HRT, but although I have hot flushes they don’t seem to be as bad as what other ladies get. I carry a hand fan with me when I go out and always have one to hand at home. I suffer a lot with my body generally aching, but it’s hard to know what is from my arthritis and what is through the change. I do miss being able to have a soak in the bath. I got that I couldn’t get out of it because of arthritis in my knees, so we had it taken out and a full length shower put it. I use a lot of lavender essential oil around the house. I use it when I steam the floor as it’s cat friendly as well as antibacterial. I buy a 50ml bottle of English Lavender oil from Essential Oils Online. It is £18.60 but lasts for a very long time. They are a British company and have a good range of pure essential oils which start in the usual 10ml bottles and they also sell candles, aromatherapy items etc. My main products though are the Dr Organics range. I use their shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, face cream, deodorant etc. To take make up off, although I don’t use it a lot, I find the best thing is witch hazel distilled water which I get from Sainsbury’s. I’ll sign off now to have a look at the Snaggies tights you mention. Like your other videos I enjoyed watching this one too. 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely recommendations with us and for telling us your story - I cannot begin to imagine what you have had to go through and I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that you are keeping well and that you are getting the support you need. I understand your love of lavender - I just think it is absolutely amazing. I'd never heard of Essential Oils Online but I will be looking them up for sure. As far as cleaning goes, I have recently decided to use up everything in my cupboard and I've ordered some Purdy and Figg Counter Clean - I was very interested in their ethos so I'm looking forward to it arriving. I hope it's not overhyped but I have read some really good reviews. I liked that they only use essential oils and they are pet safe.
I really like the Faith in Nature range too! They sell it in the Zero Waste shop in the University where I work. I can take my own bottles in and refill them and it works out really cheap, although they are lovely products.
I really appreciate you taking the time to tell us all your favourites and I am sending you all my love x

I remember when I was smack in the middle of menopause. I felt it was so unfair to still have my menstrual cycle, along with mood swings to rival a Bedlam candidate and hot flashes, especially at night to the point needing to change the sheets. Thankfully that ended. I didn't take any hormone replacement, but I find a daily cup or two of sage tea has helped with the flashes a lot over time.
I enjoy that you share about your mundane life as well.

A great video. I’m probably through the menopause now although having said that I still get hot flushes (& oh yes, that feet upwards burning!!!!! My face feels like it’s on fire too. I used to take my socks off to cool down- still do!) & other ‘symptoms’. How great that you’ve been involved in creating a menopause policy 👏🏻🥰
I’ve just watched a comedy drama called The Change - Paul watched it too - highly recommend it - so powerful & there’s a second series commissioned. Channel 4.
Even though I wouldn’t use some of the products you mentioned I still enjoyed watching your video - I’ve said it before, but I find that watching you is very comforting & I feel on the same wavelength as you , despite there being differences- if that makes sense!
I’m on a quest to find the best shampoo for my hair - it’s curly too, and I rarely even use a hairdryer on it, let alone straighteners - I’m embracing my curls😁
I have a pretty stringent wishlist for my shampoo & conditioner- sulfate free, silicone free, phthalate free, paraben free, cruelty free & vegan !
Fairly easy to find them, albeit more expensive than others, but I’ve found some , when rinsed out ( the shampoos) , leave my hair tangly & feel straw/ rope like - I tried shampoo bars as I wanted to reduce plastic, but curly hair & hard water area have meant that, for me, they’re a no go.
I’ve just bought Evolve shampoo & conditioner & they’re a definite improvement ( well conditioners have never been a problem) .
We don’t have a bath, I love them but with my hand disability getting out of one is a big challenge, so we just have a shower- but I enjoy using more luxury type products & nothing to stop me having candles lit & a more leisure shower- takes me a while due to my hair, it’s long & thick but fine.
I love the Body Shop grapefruit cologne - so sparkling & refreshing, they do( or used to) a passion fruit hydrating spray which I love too.
My perfumes I mostly get from
Eden perfumes- they are vegan, cruelty free & extremely reasonable- they do dupes of ms y fragrances, including some discontinued ones - I used to love Yves St Laurent Champagne, & Eden do their version- smells exactly as I remember the YSL one being.
I’m trying to have dedicated daily time for a meditation- even if it’s on a small scale- I select a crystal that resonates, and either hold it or lay it on my chest or abdomen, earbuds in, some relaxing music with nature sounds, lay back, close my eyes after first grounding myself & taking cleansing breaths.
    It’s really helpful.
I’m a qualified aromatherapist so I use essential oils a lot, mix my own blends , diffuse them etc. and am beginning to use essential oils alongside crystals too.
I must mention Neal’s Yard products, in particular a gorgeous blend I’ve been using called Women’s Balance massage oil - I use it as a body oil, it’s usually £20 for 100 ml, but often deals on , on their website or Amazon.I’m wanting to explore even more setting crystal grids too.
Anyway I’ve rambled on and written a long message on here!!
Take care, love to you ❤xxx

Iv just found your channel and loving it so far, just wanted to say after taking a quick look at the elemis muscle soak ingredients list it looks to me like it's mainly essential oils, plus magnesium. So for people on a budget you could replicate this buy making your own blend of essential oils mixed with a carrier oil (sweet almond oil) before adding to bath and then using espsom salts, this would give the body the magnesium ot needs to relax the muscles. I will say as a caution to people on medications that espom salts is a source of magnesium so therfor has the power the lower things like blood sugar and pressure. So in this instant needs to be used with caution. I personally have never used more than a small handful.

Us 50 something women, didn't let anyone know who we were. I studied wiccan from 19 t0 28 till my mother convinced my son I was a vampire. Back story I played D&D starting at 15. Which my mom thought was the devils tool. Every Wednesday until I was 19 and discovered wicca.
Anyway the day I was getting ready to go my 4 year old son came crying to me that he didn't want me to take him to his grandma's I was worried and as why you love going to her house? He told me that she told him I was a vampire and he was scared!
I told him I wasn't comforted him and called my mom. Her excuse for saying that was she didn't want him to know I was a devil worshiper cuz she didn't want to scare him to badly( she thought I played D&D still, she didn't know I was practicing wicca) I was so furious but quit that night so my son could see I wasn't a vampire. But it took over a month that I could even say a whole sentence to my mom. So when I found this witch community on you tube I was shocked it was so open and so excited too. I missed it so much. And Lady gravedancer, 8 years ago was the first video I watched and can never thank her enough for being on you tube, she brought back something I had missed so much. I'm not wiccan anymore but still follow some of the principles but I love watching all the different things out ther!
    Sorry for rambling.
And thank you for this video, at 57 it's finally happening for me and I refuse to to take estergon. So this was helpful!

I think I had a hot flush for the first time the other day. I thought my blood was boiling. It was very disconcerting that's for sure.
As you mentioned your tattoos... I'm really interested! Would you mind letting sharing when you got them? I've always loved gray haired women with tattoos I think it's such a great look. I'm considering whether I might get one. I've been seeing snakes everywhere recently. Oh I do love tattoos! I first got tattooed at 23 (a tiny rose which you've not seen yet, I don't think). My skull on my chest was done by Nigel Kurt and I absolutely love it. He's about 10 years old now. My sleeve is a work in progress and is nature and Witchcraft themed. It has taken about 7 years to get to this point because I had no firm plans for how I wanted it to look. I've been working with Laura, my lovely artist, to put it together. It's beautiful and I love it but unfortunately I was diagnosed with a heart condition last year and I now have to take blood thinners twice a day so it's unlikely that I will be able to have any more tattoos. I'm gutted but in the scheme of things it's no biggie! Laura has offered to do a teeny tiny one just to see how much it bleeds and how well it heals and I am considering the offer. Anyway. Tattoos are cool. Yes they hurt, but it's not unbearable. And the process is thrilling. I would tell anyone to get one. They are awesome and I love it when people ask me about mine (which is pretty much every day!) Good luck! xx

@@fifty-somethingwitch2406 thank you so much! I think anyone who gets a tattoo is very brave. My mind changes like the British weather so for someone to have such certainty is a trait I envy! Yours are really beautiful. The ones on your arm look very cohesive and 'done' you know? So if you couldn't get any more, at least it wouldn't obviously be missing anything.

Hi! I have just discovered your channel, and I enjoyed the video about your witchcraft. I am a beginner, and it's good to know that I don't have to be so disciplined in practicing. I do worry about when I do a ritual, a spell, or give my intentions to the universe,,,, I always thought that I could burn or bury it, then not worry about it anymore. You said that I still have to work on it,till you get the results that you wish. Does this mean that I have to perform my spells numerous of times, or something different with the same intentions?! Please when you get the time, could you explain to me what you mean! Thank you so much!!! BLESSED BE💜
    Laura

Hi Laura! It's lovely to have you here with me. I'm really glad you enjoyed my video. Please don't worry! You're not doing anything wrong. Let's use a non-magical example to explain what I mean. Suppose that what you want, more than anything else in the world right now, is a cup of tea. If you sat there and thought 'Ooh, I wish I had a cup of tea!' - what do you think would happen? Yep -absolutely nothing, and you would be waiting for your cuppa for a long time. So you have to do the work that follows the wish. You've got to get up, go to the kitchen put the kettle on, get a mug...you get the picture. The same is true for spell work. It's called work for a reason! If you want something badly enough, you've got to keep up the momentum after the spell is cast. So let's say we are not happy in our current job. We don't necessarily want a new one but we just want to enjoy our current one a bit more. If this was me, I would do some spell work to create new opportunities in my work. I would be very careful to make that crystal clear! I would ask that I become open to new challenges whilst not being put under unworkable stress. Does this make sense? I'm putting my request out there and being very specific about what I want to happen. Now if I leave it at that, not very much is likely to happen. I need to keep up the power of the spell by taking practical steps to bring about the change I want. So I would be asking my managers for new challenges, new training opportunities, new projects to be involved in - in short, I am changing my mindset to match the energy of the spell. You also need to be very specific in your spell work regarding the timing - when do you want this to happen? By the next full moon? By November? By March? Otherwise you could be waiting for ever!
Basically the actual spell is only the start of your work - what you do after the spell is cast is where the real magic happens. If you are banishing something for example, there's no point burning or burying it if you are just going to keep going back for more of whatever you've tried to banish. You have to change your mindset to match the work.
I really hope this makes sense - I'm sorry I can't give you a complete guide to spell work here, but I hope this helps. Bear in mind this is how I work, how other Witches work might look very different. You will find your own way.
Lots of love to you x

Thank you Alison for this video. I will be 50 in December and am on my journey through menopause. My mother is gone and I really don't have any other women in my life I can ask for tips or advice. The products and suggestions you presented are very useful to me and I will be considering some of them (or the US equivalents) for my own use. If I may ask, did/do you suffer from sleeplessness due to menopause? I can only sleep a few hours at a time then am awake again for no reason. Anyway, thank you again for another great video. You are such a kind and sincere person to want to help others by sharing your own experiences. You shouldn't feel like you aren't good enough or don't belong where you are at. You are here at the perfect place and time and your videos are helping others. Many blessings to you! And of course give George kitty a hug from me.❤ (PS: I never had children either so I wonder if that will make my menopause experience a bit different from most.)

Hi Karen, you are very welcome. I completely understand about your Mum - mine is gone too, and I wish she'd been here to talk to. I have a lovely older sister but she is quite severely disabled and I don't want to burden her with my problems! So I am really glad that we have got our little community to support each other. Insomnia? Oh yes. Absolutely horrendous, even though I was absolutely shattered. I've been taking a magnesium supplement which I got to help with my leg cramps and I don't know if it's a coincidence, but I do seem to be sleeping better since I started taking it.
Thank you so much for your lovely supportive words - you are so kind, and I am so glad you are here xxx

Thank you so much for talking about menopause! It is a huge life event for half of the population, but it doesn't get talked about enough. I hope in the UK doctors are better, but doctors in the US are often not helpful. Most of my best tips have come from other, non-medical, women who have gone through menopause. Along with your great tips, I would like to recommend Olay retinol body wash and body lotion. I am 58 and starting to get crepey skin. They reduce the crepiness.

I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for putting yourself out there and sharing personal experiences to help others. I did benefit. When you were talking about The Body Shop, I was thinking all they need to do to save themselves is bring back Dewberry perfume, Blue Corn Lotion, and Banana lotion. Also regarding feminine napkins. Everyone should always have some of these in their home, not only for guest use but also for injuries. I punctured my hand deeply and I all had available to wrap it up was a feminine napkin. I rinsed my hand as best I could to get the dirt out and then my friend helped me place the fem napkin and wrap it with tape and off we went to urgent care. It worked lovely. Regarding this type of video vs other witchy content...well I appreciate getting to know the whole witch being that you are.

Hello Alison, thank you so much! this video is a gift from your heart to all of us. I'm definitely interested in all videos you feel drawn to share. The product I was drawn to invest in is snag tights. I can no longer get down into a bath so I'm shower products only now. My go to moisturiser is Neutragena Comfort Balm it's so very soothing on all levels. I also find aloe vera gel incredibly cooling when stored in a cool place. I'm a crystal healer and my go to pendant consists of three crystals, Seraphinite which holds a grounding wood energy, which helps by supporting nourishment and health. Peridot supporting emotional healing by stabilising our moods. Chrome diopside helping us with detoxification, cell regeneration, assisting our metabolism, supporting menopausal headaches, helping to naturally regulate blood pressure and encourage all recovery after illness. I make my own lavender and sage bedroom spray. Also made a sacred geometry grid in the bedroom using the flower of life symbol with rose quartz and green aventurine supporting our heart space, it's so very peaceful. Like you I must have a calm home. Many blessings 🙌 and and abundance of love to you Alison 🩷 (thank you also for the black salt, protection oil, and witches pin, I highly recommend them all) 😊
