I’ve been sporty and active all my life and stared feeling these weird thumps after going through anxiety and panic attacks for a short period of time about 5 years ago. I don’t suffer from panic/anxiety attacks anymore nor am I stressed but these things just don’t seem to go away. :( I’ve been to the multiple doctors in India and Sweden and have had pretty much all the extensive tests done (eggs,24h holter, x rays, 2 stress tests, 2D,3D ECHO, blood work) and all that the doctors can say to me is “it’s no biggie, deal with it”... yes, it’s good to know they aren’t harmful or malignant in nature but they aren’t something I can just ignore, especially when they feel like your heart is dropping in my stomach every now and then. It’s mentally exhausting me. Smh

These are soooo scary I was just diagnosed as having these (PVC's). I'm only 36yrs old and this just started. They think it's because of the Methadone I'm on but I've been on it for over 10 yrs??? My cardiologist said they were coming from the top part of the heart.... He now has me on Metoprolol 50mg once a day.

  • @markstaley6757

I am 50 years old. I had a cardiac arrest at age 45. I have an ICD now. I've had 1 shock and it was almost three years ago. (2 years after they put the ICD in). At the time I was taking metoprolol. After the shock episode (cardiac arrest #2) the doctor changed my medicine to sotolol (80mg). Since switching to the sotolol I've been doing alright for the most part. I still feel some PVC's every now and then but I haven't had any cardiac arrests. Thank you Jesus. The doctors wanted to try to do an oblation but when they did my stress test it showed that the location where the PVC's were occurring was all over my heart in multiple locations and not centered to any specific location. So, therefore they could not do the oblation. I hated to hear that but I guess that is just how it is. I just wanted to leave this comment to see if anyone maybe could relate? Hope y'all are doing well and just thankful that I have my ICD because it has saved my life once already. Take care.

Just some advice. Because of 'it's all normal' cardiac advice from experts like you I underestimated the severe pvc's I was experiencing. I didnt have to have studied a Phd to predict that these knock out pvc's were going to develop into something worse, even though they were under the threshold of 10%. I did actually say to my catdoilogists right at the start, if this is contunues I will develop pvc induced cardiomyopathy. Put it this way there are pvc's and pvc's. On an ecg in hospital one day I drank a cup of tea and bang I had a string of pvc's suddenly develop. I could not even feel them and this is the normal pvc's a healthy person will have. The pvc's I was complaining about were very severe and would put me out of action, not able to walk and hurt like a red hot poker shooting through me every time. This 'healthy people get 100's every day, all harmless' philosophy caused me to put up with them. And sure enough one day my GP said look, go to the hospital ED next time you have a bout and it was atrial fibrillation with severe dilated cardiomyopathy. That's what not worrying over them caused. It's not the burden, it's the severity of each pvc that should be the diagnostic subject. 4000 severe pvc's per day is a serious cardio prob and it should have been considered so instead of everyone referring to the usual med protocol. It's logic. I studied immunology but by logical commonsense I came to the right diagnosis. Unless you're sure, this rush to calm down the patient is dangerous. My GP said most doctors, even specialists don't look at problems scientifically. They go straight to known protocol.

Thank you for all that you do. You are such a generous doctor, giving so much of your time to address the many issues most cardiologists don't want to discuss. It is good to know that healthy people have the same ectopic beats that I have. However, what percentage do they have and what percentage is safe? Why do my ectopic beats range from 0% to 40% over a 30 second Kardia reading? This cannot be good for the heart over time.

Both My Primary Doctor and EP told me that these arise from a heart cell that's out of place, normally in the Ventricles. Of course the topic ends that heart rhythm disorders are benign and normal finding but “as you get older they become prevalent”.. so why do they get prevalent? Sure, age, weight, diet, medical conditions, medications and others may be a factor but I feel as though these disorders are concerning as you get older. It shouldn’t misfire and if it does, I feel cardiologists needs to really dig deeper with the patient and find out the root cause. I had to pursue my cardiologist and electrophysiologist to get a second Opinion. They found my PVCs but couldn’t answer where and why. I exercise, no history of heart disease and No history of drug use, alcohol abuse, no high boood pressure, diet is clean, plenty of sleep, no caffeine no stimulants not overnight..no stress but still get PVCs. I get them 6 times a day. A forceful feeling my heart skipped and once in awhile it’ll convert to VT of about 180bpm for 5-10 min and goes away. Doctors still find this as benign. I had to pursue and ask them to do another test of a stress echo and Holter. Asking for a two week Holter. Then hoping for an EP study. Doctors will never know a root cause as it could be anything but I’m tired of hearing from doctors that these are from stress and the more I hear it , it causes stress because i feel stress, for young healthy hearts are “nothing to worry about” . Not to discriminate anyone but i envy people that are overweight, drinking and eating away their coffee and meals and going on vacations and traveling without a a single heart issue. Meanwhile, a fit healthy person with heart rhythm disorder can’t do any of those as my rhythm is out of whack and doctors can’t figure out why. Inconclusive statement but great information video overall.

One thing that most people are unaware of and that doctor's never mention during a diagnosis is the realm of microwaves, wifi, power lines, radiation etc. These are contributing factors that affect our health and is one of the main causes to these issues but it's rarely spoken about because it's something that no one thinks about. Which would probably explain why healthy people still get these kind of conditions.

I have what my electrophysiologist thinks is vagal atrial fibrillation, caused by high vagal tone. We suspect sleep apnea as the cause of vagal tone alteration and will treat that as soon as a sleep study spot opens up.
When hospitalized for atrial fibrillation, a nurse had me try Valsalva maneuvers to knock me into sinus rhythm, but it did not work, as I could have told her. In fact, I think it might worsen the attack, if high vagal tone is the cause.
Eating, especially at night, and changing bodily position triggered attacks. Flecainide, which affects parasympathetic function, stopped the AF cold, as did avoiding eating at night. Relaxation in general seemed to make me more prone to paroxysms of AF. The bouts of AF were almost always preceded by runs of supraventricular bigeminy at a rate of 35-40 bpm.
I just had an ablation and have noticed that my resting sinus heart rate has risen from 43-57 to 58-71, and if I take averages, the average rate has risen 11 points per minute. I am told this is hopeful, and a sign that some of the vagal nerve endings in the pulmonary veins have been ablated. The degree of rise in basal rate bodes well for a durable ablation result.
Hope this helps someone figure things out.

I have pvcs and sometimes they hurt, usually when I lay down/bend over/take a deep breath. Totally random but come on more during a lot stress. I’m convinced the pain is from my pvcs NOT my anxiety because I feel the palpitation at the same time it happens. I have severe panic about them. Which increases the pvcs. I feel them all the time. I’ve been to the ER/ambulance/doctors/cardiologist over a dozen times this month. They say I’m fine. I’ve had panic attacks about them them for 9 years and the pain for about 2 years. And recently my panic is just out of control because I feel the pain in the center of my chest. It could be once a day or twice a week. Just super stressed and feel doomed. I got on lexapro 2 weeks ago. Anyone else relate?

    you do good work.
A couple of thoughts : on stress - In the 60s Hans Selye, the grandfather of stress research, devised a list of life events , good or bad, and a value assigned to each, as to how much stress they caused, which were than added up. If the result was over 300(?) 90% of the people would end up in the hospital within a year. on anxiety - admittedly, planet Earth is a scary place, but I noticed that my level of what I experienced as anxiety was rising for no decernible reasons. about 4 mos ago I was diagnosed w/ectopic heart beats(and more), the meds worked and immediately the sense of anxiety disappeared.I had side effects and the 2nd med doesn't work as well and all is back. My experience is that the tightness and pain in the chest is the same as the physical experience of fear and is interpreted as that. I may have discovered something about what to do about it and if it works I'll let you know. Shanti

Had another bout of 30 sec NSVT in ambulance on way to pacemaker / defibrillator implant.
So...there IS sometimes cause for concern.
In my opinion the key is the trend. If your PVCs are trending higher over time see your cardiologist but also increase your mitigation measures which for me were meditation, heavy magnesium supplementation and taking more care to get adequate sleep. On the day of my ambulance ride I had missed taking my magnesium, had not meditated, had slept terribly and tried to maintain functionality with coffee. All bad choices!

I find it hard to believe that our hearts can even misfire. My Dad didn't even know what a "Flutter" or "Premature" beat even felt like but he's heard of it. I wish I was like him, 92 years old and plenty of heart issues and doesn't suffer from them. We take care of ourselves and don't smoke, over drink, take drugs and abuse ourselves like some of my family and friends and they don't have these. I've had chronic anxiety for over 50 years and never had anything like this until 2017. Why now ? My EP's nurse said, "Just Ignore Them". lol. Yeah, easy for you to say. Maybe if they knew what I was going through they'd do something. Like my ex wife said years ago, I'm just unlucky.

Chronic anxiety for 50 yrs is the key. Do you have racing heart symptoms with your anxiety? I’m 23, have occasional panic attacks, and heart can race on a daily basis with anxiety. Had this for years. I also put my body thru lots of stress in college. What I’m thinking is the stress from anxiety/panic on your heart can eventually give you heart problems. Doesn't there HAVE to be a reason why these are happening? A heart muscle wouldn't just start misfiring 2-3 times per minute all day long just because. I'm glad that they're mostly benign and for most people will cause no issue besides feeling the uncomfortable rhythm every day. But I'm not convinced that there isn't an answer out there for those of us who have tried diet, magnesium, potassium, taurine, arginine, meditation, breath work, trying to pretend they aren't there, exercising, vagus nerve stimulation, etc... (feel free to add more to the list). You don't just "get things", there was something that changed in each of our lives and bodies at some point to create the short circuit that's currently going on.
The most frustrating thing for me is that now heading into year 2 of having an average of 1-2 palpitations per minute (5-7 per minute on bad days and this is all day long 24/7) is that I've had about 3-4 times during the past year where they completely went away. Once they stayed away for almost a month! The other times were anywhere from 3-4 days up to 2 weeks. Life was so much better, everything was brighter, more colorful and I was so much happier and able to enjoy things. On bad days, I can barely do my job (luckily I can get away with it since I work independently). But I can't even relax and watch TV with my wife because my focus is on what's happening inside of me and not on the show/movie.
Anyway, my point is that if I can somehow get a 1 month reprieve from them and I didn't change a single thing, there has to be a way to keep it going and never get them back again. If something was wrong, they would stay and never go away and would likely get worse. So I know that something is causing the palps to happen. Somebody somewhere HAS to know something that might work for a few of us. If anybody has heard of any possible solutions, please respond to this post with the info. I'd love to try anything new and see how it works.
I've seen things that palps can come from gut issues, anxiety, etc...
I dont smoke, drink, do drugs, take medicine. I eat 95% organic produce and grass fed, wild caught or pasture raised beef, chicken, eggs, fish, shrimp, bacon and butter. I drink no caffeine, only filtered water, I walk in the sun a lot, stay hydrated and drink electrolytes. I just can't figure it out. I am definitely a thinker/analyzer and I do tend to overthink things but it's not like I'm a neurotic psycho who stresses out about everything. I'm a pretty calm guy who takes things as they come. So none of this makes sense to me. Let's help each other out and post new ideas of how to heal ourselves! Good luck to us all!

In the pursuit of putting my "mind at rest" I now feel one step closer after watching your video. Although, I'm still having a hard time shaking this heart awareness with VT worries at night. Which basically equates to a fear of dying in my sleep. My background: male (45) healthy, non smoking, not super active, slightly underweight. With occasional 2 second spurts of VT, as recorded on an event monitor. Cardio Dr. Tested me for Brugada and QT Long with sodium channel blockers. Tests came back negative. So what to test for next; Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia or a right bundle brach block? Needless to say, there were no further tests. So now I'm left here, still with VT, trying to guess at my future.

I get PVCs and PACs , 3-4 at a time, in between 3-4 normal beats, for 1-2 days during PMS. I'm trying to figure out whether it's considered "sustained" and whether or not I should also take your doctor's advice! :-/

He ran himself ragged, was a part-time bodybuilder, did martial arts and won a lot of 1st plce trophies, had the flu, was dehydrated and wiped-out by stress(he worked up to 23hrs a day during the busy season of his job). As his parents we didnt limit him in any activity he wanted to do. We could have instilled the fear we had for him into him but refrained. Everyone should live their lives to the fullest. In our opinion- fear kills. Granted- we need to be aware of our health and try to get&stay healthy. Thank you, Dr. for helping so many people.

How common is non sustained multiple PACs? Not just two but lets say at least four.
I've always had if not a huge number of ectopic beats then always noticed them very clearly. In some periods I have many (not sure if many by doctors p.o.v.) and a few times when I had many I'm almost certain I've had atrial flutter or something like that - suddenly heart starting flopping a few times like a bat and then BAM of it went at steady 164 BMP for at least 15-20 seconds with so much force I've never felt such a hard pulse otherwise even at heavy exercise. I was so close to calling emergency and if not dying from it then scared to death. So far everything everything is normal. Not had an echo recently but others have been fine. Had a holter at my GP and they found an episode of multiple ectopics without stating how many and what type - odly I didn't notice that wondereing if it was when sleeping? Only noticed normal singular ectopics - still waiting for their final verdict on that recording.
One time recently I had some smaller episodes I managed to catch it on Samsung Watch 4 it could be multiple PACs or flutter (flutter is not really visible in lead I but rhythm was very sudden and regular). So far I've not caught any PVCs what so ever on the watch although I'm almost sure I once had an episode of ventricular bigiminy as I have a Medisana Cardiocheck (now a vintage piece of electronics bought when I first had episodes of many ectopics 15-20 years ago) and that said wide QRS during that episode - sadly I don't have the printer for it so I couldn't look at what it recorded (never managed to find the printer for sale). Fortunately nothing since then - also one of the very scary episodes I was very close calling emergency - not just because the Cardiocheck said something was very wrong but also because there was no doubt the beating didn't feel normal at all - very far from it. The Medisana also complains about arrythmia if there's normal PACs or heavy sinus arrythmia when breathing - but then all other values are fine.
Fun fact: Even rabbits can suffer from ectopic beats. Had my ear to my rabbit today and noticed one.

How comfortable would you be in prescribing Flecainide to suppress PVCs in a structurally good heart? Stress test, Cardiac MRI all normal, normal ECG sinus except for PVCs. Holter showed about 7% burden, but PVCs are driving me up the wall. Suffering from alot of anxiety, depression and anger when I have the PVCs. PVC completely disappear for 8 hours or so after exercise, walking/jogging. Would you use Flecainide on a as needed basis to break PVCs? Thanks for your opinion. I love your videos

    • @samad3251
      @samad3251 6 лет назад

Flecainide to suppress PVCs would be like using a flame thrower to kill an ant. Flecainide, despite being an anti-arrythmic agent might also be pro-arrythmic for some people; and might trigger fatal arrythmia.

Would you please, or have you already done a video about the influence of melatonin increasing PVCs? I read one paper describing 2 men taking melatonin who then stopped taking it and then all their PVCs ceased. It's only 2 men so not conclusive. Just made me wonder. I'm on Zaleplon right now snd weaning off it slowly. On nights I don't take Zaleplon I take 1 mg Melatonin. I haven't noticed a correlation though. Before I started weaning I increased magnesium glycinate by 125 mg a day. I think that's helped but can't be sure. My doctor actually wants me on 300mg twice a day so right now I'm on 250 at bedtime and 125 at noon. So I'm nowhere near what she prescribed yet.

I talked with a cardiologist today about PVC and how it often a pulse marker isn't counted properly. In my case, the Dr. said the bradycardia they referred me to him for was a mere measurement error, since the referrer didn't use a good machine or something to measure the < 60 bpm. (they claimed it was in the '40's.).
Did I sweat it out until I saw the doctor today? Yup.
Let me tell you it was a relief to hear what it really was and nobody's going to chip me up with a pacemaker as a natural progression of things that might go ahead from here.
The study's results are reassuring, and it appears PVC is as common as the data indicates. whew.
more tests will be done to follow up, but that pacemaker idea just makes my skin crawl.

I have the PVCs that I can feel (thunk, slight pause, thunk) but with no other symptoms alongside (apart from fear and dread + panic attack when I first noticed them).
