So, I’ve had heart palpitations ongoing for about 3 years. I’ve had ekg, 24 hour cardiac monitoring, 4 week monitoring and an echo. I’ve gone to my PCP and a cardiologist. Cardiologist said it was Covid. No one ever tested my ferritin and come to find out my ferritin was 13. Hemoglobin normal. I’ve started on oral iron over a month ago. Plus I’m going through peri menopause. You really have to be your own advocate. Thank you Dr. Gupta for putting this information out there for people. I think practitioners are just so busy and don’t listen to what you have to say. My complaints were fatigue, heart palpitations and anxiety. Hopefully I am on the road to recovery.

@@jeff15 I still have heart palpitations. My ferritin has risen to 34 but I’ve read that heart palpitations stop when at 50. We will see. I am continuing taking my iron. If that doesn’t work then I’m guessing it’s Covid related but I’m not completely sure. I hope all is well with you

@AngelaJones2433 Sorry to hear that. I've been on a bad insomnia for 2 months due to a really bad anxiety and stress. Then, I recently started to have heart palpitations. I am guessing since I am not sleeping well or not at all with high level of anxiety, it's why it started. Just went to see a cardiologist few days ago and fished my 48hr heart monitor. I have followed up with a stress test and echo. Hopefully I can get help. Thanks.

Hi Dear. How are you feeling now.? Has it gone? I got a panic attack month ago that raced my BPM to 160. Since then palpitations lasted intermittantly for 20 days ranging 110/120-130 bpm. Got my Holter test, ecg and echo done. Cardiologist found no ailment, no blockage, nthg. Stress and anxiety was the reason. Today mid June i still get 130 bpm once a day with fluttering of stomach and neck. Got covid test done twice , and was ngtv. Intermittant tachycardia noted.
Will it gradually recede or keep happening occasionally as ripple effect ??? What's your take ? It has mentally terrified me more. 🤧😪

I've got to say, these videos help me greatly in terms of giving me a bit more knowledge. I was diagnosed with G.A.D at 9 years old, and was put on citalopram to help the panic attacks. Around 20 I started having different sorts of palipitations, the most worrying come in the form of very random erratic beats that very rarely happen. They happen anywhere from a few times a month, to only once in possibly a year or two, but they're crippling and have caused me to black out once recently. As of yet I have not found the reason after having done an event monitor and a stress test, as they only happen at random times, though I'm told I do have pac's and sinus tachycardia. My next appointment is on the 18th and I plan to use some of the information I've learned here in hopes of finding out whats happening. Thank you so much.

    Dear Dr. Gupta,
I love your videos! You have such a calming voice and tone, and you cover topics so thoroughly. Thank you so much for your very helpful videos. I wish I had you for my cardiologist. 😊. Anyway, I just had a ultrasound of my heart to monitor a bulge in my ascending aorta. The good news is that it hasn’t grown since last year which has given me hope. And the cardiologist said I had a strong heart. Also very reassuring because for the last 3 years I’ve had a lot of issues with my heart and chest pain. And, I’ve had a lot of tests which all came back good. I’ve had high blood pressure since my teens, and open heart surgery at 42. The doctors only gave me 5 years to live 18 years ago. I attribute the fact that I’m still alive to a cardiologist named Dr. Stephen Sinatra whose guidance I followed on supplements and nutrition as well as others. So, my blood pressure is very unstable. It can go from 120/70 to 260/140 or higher depending on situations and unknown factors. I didn’t have a heart attack, and I’ve always been told that my heart is strong. My resting heart rate has always been in the low 60’s, perfect. But, my heart has become very reactive in the last 3 years. A lot of issues have calmed down, but I’m dealing with my heart rate going from being low at times and high at times which is confusing. I do have 3 nodules on my thyroid, but the doctor checked my thyroid, and said it was good. I go between sweating easily some days to being cold on others especially my hands. Sometimes on the treadmill when I’m having low heart rate numbers 66 when standing, 50 sitting, and 46 when laying down I can only get my heart rate up to 85 at 3 miles an hour , but when I’m having higher numbers 58 laying down, 68-70 sitting, 80 standing my heart rate goes up to 128 or so at 3 miles an hour. My ability to exercise isn’t an issue. I don’t have any symptoms when exercising at the higher or lower rates, but when my heart rate goes into the 40’s I know it because my chest feels heavy and it’s harder to breathe only on my back with my head cocked forward. I don’t have the problem breathing on my sides or the chest heaviness. The chest heaviness is only when standing. What do you think about this? The symptoms seem to me to be thyroid related, but I’ve had it checked twice, and the doctor says it’s fine. However, a couple of years ago a different doctor said my thyroid was elevated; but a couple of months later, she said it was fine. Could the thyroid nodules be causing me to go between hyper and hypo? Lastly, as I said, in the last 3 years, my heart has been reactive, and I’ve been dealing with palpitations that come and go. Can a low and high thyroid issue cause palpitations? I’m sorry this is long, but I thought some background was important. My diet is all organic, no sugar, low carbs, and my supplements target cardiac issues as well as inflammation and liver support. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for all that you do to help people, Bambi

Thanks you so much for this information. I can not express how grateful I am for this. I have been told I have AF and they said I would have a stroke if I did not take their pills. I have been living in fear since. Every time my heart races of jumps I think I am going to have a stroke. It has been so incredibly stressful. Yet, I have not been able to see a cardiologist. Can you please do a video on Pradaxa and other medications being prescribed by doctors.

Thank you. I’m having my palpations only after eating high carbohydrates like 50-80 grams. But it doesn’t happen every time. Occasionally (once a month) I get chest pains right where we put our hand when saying the pledge of allegiance. I was supposed to do a bunch of tests that cost me a few thousand dollars after my insurance paid their part. Now I can go back and ask them to do the others you listed first.

I read that eating makes all the blood go to the digestion and that could be why. Controversially it said that coffee after eating widens the vessels allow the blood to flow easier to the rest of the body whilst aiding digestion, I have no idea if this is medically sound but having given up coffee I resumed one (not strong) coffee without sugar with breakfast and it worked for me. It also worked for me that I stood and walked about after eating - so take your pick!

I wish my doctor had explained the event monitor like you just did. They basically told me to only press the record button if I was having really extreme symptoms, but at that point I had been having palpitations for two months, so I’ve grown accustomed to the frequency and severity. Basically I never pressed the button because even when I couldn’t breathe for minutes at a time, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. No wonder they told me it was fine. But then also they told me everything was fine with my echo, but looking at the report a week later I see they say tricuspid regurgitation and dilation of the left atrium. Very disappointed in my doctor, I wish they all could be as detail oriented and knowledgeable as you.

I always have a high pulse when I have my pulse taken. i have normal blood pressure and had an ecg when having palpitations 116 bpm the result was sinus tach. i was put on a 24 hour monitor and I had no events to report on this partic day. I have noticed that the times when i have had more severe palpitations has been when i have drunk alcohol and eaten a heavy meal before sleep. It seems as though i get to sleep initially ok for a couple of hours and wake up with the elevated heart rate and can't get back to sleep because of the elevated heart rate. I am too anxious to take my own pulse when suffering these episodes. I have suffered from health anxiety for many years. Obviously not drinking any alcohol seems sensible but I just wanted to know what you would do in my position. I was interested in what you said on the video regarding the fact that from my understanding you would not have requested a 24 hr test for me as I had already had qan ecg during tachycardia which came back as sinus tach. Please help I don't know what to do. Ty so much for the videos extremely informative I also had my thyroid function tested and normal levels were found. i have been prescribed beta blockers but as of yet have not started taking them as i still have not had the results of the 24 hour test.

Dear Doc, thank you for rendering services for free online.
What's your take Doctor? It has mentally terrified me more. 🤧😪

Could you do a video on how long ectopic heartbeats can last for? I have runs that last for 1 to 4 weeks non stop! My cardiologist says the heart can take time to reset. It's so good when it goes back to a normal rhythm. I know alcohol doesn't help in the long run but it helps in the evening when it's bothering me. Thanks for the videos, I've watched them all! FYI I used to have SVT before an ablation 3 years ago.

Been to A&E 3 times, called my Gp more than 8 times for that Belt monitor, 6 months on, I am told to go private if I can’t wait 😭. Really sad as no one is listening to me. I am on Amlodaphine, Thyroxine, and was given Propranalol to use when I feel bad. My life’s turned upside down. The funny feeling comes when I am resting. I try to walk at least 5km every other day.

Love your lectures! So Indepth and informative. I have not found any similarly knowledgeable doctor in US unfortunately. I have terrible tachicardia/weakness/sweat especially after meals and with slight excertion, chest pain radiatibg in jaw, arm, back, PAC's and PVS's, feeling of lump in throat... Most tests accessing structural and vessel integrity are OK, monitor shows rate changes from bradicardia (46 at sleep) to tachicadria (148 - just with minimal house activities). Will probably ask to repeat stress/echo. I also listened to your Vagus nerve lectures. I suspect I have some autonomous nervous sytem disfunction. Any suggestion? Thanks!

Love your hairdo, Sanjay! Bedhead! Why have the ECG if you're not having palpitations then? Are there other benefits of a ECG? I refused to go to the hospital because I felt fine, I didn't want to spend a day in the Emergency Room nor leave my car in a parking lot! If I had had any symptoms I would have gone but I felt fine. I still feel fine though I'm now aware of my erratic heartbeats, palpitations, etc., and I know why its important to get it checked out. They don't happen very often. I hope my Cardiologist is as smart as you. He's also Indian, very nice though not nearly as good looking! He dresses like a million bucks though - impeccable!

How often should one get tested? I have been struggling with palpation for over 16 years. I did ECG,Holter moniter,Echocardiogram, stress test, chest Cray and they all said my heart is normal and they only saw ectopic beats. My question is can these results be changer to understand normal and how often should you be tested?

Is increased heart rate a heart palpitation?
I've had plenty of ECC's and was told, all I have is Tachy. And they want me to give me medication.
I don't take the medication, because I don't wanna know what's causing it. Do they see a deformity anywhere, have they checked all avenues regarding a cause. They'll do thyroid test, and some mineral test. But everything comes out norma. I've had two echocardiogram within the last 10 years.
Then over 12 - 10 years ago I had about Two or 3 echo stress test with dyes.
All they found is that my heart rate is high.
I told them I know my heart is high. It happens occasionally every now and then. What's causing it? How can my heart rate be normal the majority of the time? That was the point of these test. They have no answer. It's so frustrating.
