- Guess who's back?! We finally finished watching The Untamed, so here's the second half of our review of the series! Spoiler alert if you haven't finished watching.

English Name: The Untamed (2019)
Chinese Name: 陈情令 (Chén Qíng Lìng. Translates to something like “The Command of Eternal Love.”)
Origin: China. Based on the web novel series Mo Dao Zu Shi, which was also adapted into an animated series of the same name.

Writing/Storytelling: 7/10
Cinematography: 8.5/10
Acting: 7/10
Hot Guys: 8/10
Chinese Cultural Value: Part of a genre called xianxia, the show draws inspiration from ancient China and features a lot of traditional culture, from the clothes to the fighting techniques to the mythical monsters and magic.
Recommended: Yes! Overall quality improves after the first couple of episodes and then you’ll be hooked.

The reason the adults don’t get old after 16 years is basically because of their cultivation...... if you read or watch cultivation novels and dramas, when they cultivate to a certain level they can maintain their preferred appearance or they can live for long

oh and about the aging thing, i'm not really sure but i think in most of xianxia novels, cultivators don't really age and they could be 50 but still look like 20 haha
but yeah, i think the biggest flaw of the untamed is that i just don't think that anyone who hasn't read the novel could understand 100% of what was happening on the screen in some parts!

Your comments are so entertaining, I can't help laughing the entire time. Well, you said Jin Ling was probably 18? Here comes a surprise for you, he is actually 23 in real life. And the other lad who was a little child with a wig is actually 22.
Plus, Lan Jing Yi, a friend of Lan Si Zhui (the lad who was a little boy with a wig) is actually 26 years of age.

Your comments are so on point and funny. I really loved The Untamed. At first it started as something random since I never seen Chinese drama before. I am happy that the main actors acting was good. I didn’t really like the ending because I thought it dragging too long. Btw I liked your comment for Wen Qing, I wondered if I was the only one who thought her eyes were surprisingly large. I also wasn’t sure if all the “bad” characters had to act bad. XueYang and JinGuangyao for me, their acting wasn’t so great but they are handsome.
I read the translated novel which made more sense to me. Cause some of the dialogue didn’t really connect with me but after reading the novel made more sense.
The anime follows the sequence of the novel. For me, I feel like the battles are way better but Wei Ying and Lan Zhan’s relationship is toned down as we go down the episodes.

i would like to recommend you guys to watch heaven's official blessing's donghua once it's finished airing since it's by the same author as the untamed! also, i'm not sure if you guys will take any suggestions from outside of china, but there's a japanese drama currently airing called cherry magic that i think you guys will totally love it! (it's on episode 8 out of 12 right now)

Please, watch Winter Begonia too. It is one of the best Cdramas of 2020 and based on BL novel, just like the untamed.

I am not Chinese and loved the drama, so Much better 9/10 than recent American plotless films/dramas. I don’t get why you were so confused. After the first episode it’s just straightforward. And the acting of main leads are really good.

We liked both of the leads' acting and also Lotus Clan Mom, she was badass
I need to see yuor other videos but a BL chinesse serie that i LOVE (in my fav) is Addicted Sadly is unfinished for many probles but all the episode that were out were PERFECT! /truly of my top 5/ You only need to forget the last 10 minuted of the last episode and it would be a perfect open end. hahahah
They change the villan so much, becuse main villan in the story is "mob mentality". In the scene in Lotus Pier, when we lern Hat Guy did some bad things sodenly everyone starts blaming evrything on him, even if it's not his fault, same as they did with Wei Wuxian. I think Jin Ling actor is the same age or even yunger then Lan Zhan's one :D For Lan Zhans actor i seen his without this wih and a harpice and he looks much better like this. I think the hairdoo makes him look kinda bad. And ofc Wei Wuxian (Xiao Zhan) is the most handsome of them all :D As for the story its hard for me to say becuse i have read the novel before, but i think the story is very good, but propably better and easier to understand in the novel. They also spoiled some thing that were secret in the novel almost to the end :(

Interesting thing to take notice of is that noone ever thoes anything in this novel, aside Wwx and the villans. Even when the Wens want all sects to send disciples wit at last one disciple with clan blood, they just sent them instead of i dont know commin together and rebelling. Madam Yu is mad about it and tries to talk Jiang Fengmian into doing something, but he is like whatever, you want to take my son as a hostage, sure thing, be my guest. Lwj also never does anything to help before Wwx death, but he is a kid, and dosen't have reall power in the sect. But Lan Xichen? Nie Mingjue? They just believe Jins that Wwx is harboring an army without ever checking for themselfs. Evryone is super scared of doing anything, becuse it can make them lose face, and all they thinka bout is "What will pll say/think" instead of "what is right". Lan Qiren is also a good example. Lan sect has a reputation of beeing righteus and only thing he thinks about is to keep that reputation, not to actually be righteus.
As for the villans aside from Wens, which are not really villans, just cannon fodders, we have the backstory of them, we can see how shitty society and even relatives treted them, and why it's not an excuse, it nicely explains why they became what they became. Both Jin Guangyao and Xue Yang were first wronged a lot before dooing wrong. I still think that they were bad and deserved punishment, but the fucked up society make tham, and allowed to exist and do whatever they want.

Omg you are right, Ms. Healer does look like Azula! Maybe that’s why we like her so much..... Not a fan of Demon General but agreed about Villain Guy being one of the most handsome (this is a good show for giving characters nicknames 😂)
