I have an almost religious dedication to this show and I've been rewatching it every couple months for the past few years. I'm so glad I came across your review today though because you pointed out a lot of things that made me LOL and I think it's gonna make the show more entertaining when I watch it next time (i can never unsee the "argee" lmao). As a lesbian and someone with common sense, I agree that the story is pretty toxic and in the novel, no matter the author's hard work, I found it hard to romanticize them. About the second season's plot, unless the story is changed from the novel, I believe it is the bottom guy who's gonna be the military officer and the top guy who's gonna be the a CEO. the step brother actually has a major role in the story I promise, and the second couple's chemistry is really bland tbh. anyway, I guess what I want to say is that I really enjoyed your review. I have a soft spot for this show bc it was this show that made me fall in love with the Mandarin Chinese language ( i didn't know da hai's accent was different! to a foreigner's ears, it sounded pretty good hahaha) and I found it at a very dark time in my life. Despite my bias, I was able to enjoy your opinions and laugh along. you were very informative and that's always great when you read/watch a review. thank you!
I really LOVE how u actually review the series. Feel so real, I mean not often I heard people saying SHIT about the drama their are reviewing. Freaking LOVE it. But about the accent, I believe that the series actually portrait the rural area of CHINA (northern part). Thats explain Gu Hai’s accent(the actor is actually from Northern) but I believe few years past he(the actor) doesnt have that thick accent anymore. Talking about the brother (it is cousin) so I do have cousin who doesnt share the same accent as I am. Season 2 supposedly the bottom gonna be army and the top is CEO. Nobody was killed or anything. It just at the end of season 1, the dad(top’s dad) discovered their relationship so their are somewhat end up breaking up (car accident) bottom pretend to die. Season 1 supposedly end here. Then after awhile(I believe 2 years people change the story telling top that bottom when overseas) which is a lie too. After 8 years long they actually meet again.
You have to read the book. BLY caught Gu Hai's attention when the gossipy girl told him BLY doesn't have a mother and Gu Hai recently lost his mother mysteriously....you have to watch it again in the beginning.

Are you sure they are filming the 2nd season? Heard about the 2nd season so many times and yet they were all hoax. However, this is the first BL drama series i watched few years back and instantly addicted to it. And i was so pissed off with the ending 😅. Left hanging there
haha yeah we couldn't believe the ending.... Walden saw an announcement somewhere about filming in Taiwan with different lead actors, so I guess we will see what happens!
BTW I loved all the real detail that we loose because we don't truly know how the school is. All from the respect to get in a class, the gym class and also the table sharing.

It is the era where GAY is all about gays. I believe in early 2000-201_ the rape and stuff are normalise and romanticised too much in LGBTQ or hatero community.

(the adduction part was creepy I was very angry because I hate the rape and then love trope so yeahh the clues of thinghs getting very dark were there) The violence alert thermometer. @Niki L Wong I was wondering if we watched the same series? Are they aware of the stats surrounding Addicted like 10m views on the first day of broadcast? Why would people be considering a S2 if this BL wasn’t phenomenal. Even after 100s more BLs from China and elsewhere this is still one of the classics that people are still rewatching today because very few even compare. Also gay men and other queer people have been involved with BL for decades and dominate production at the live action adaptation stage but the reviewers seem to be more influenced by their own prejudices at the time of airing; I’m sure they would do a better quality review today. But this seems to be a real American problem. By nit-picking on people’s accents, the continuity issues (clearly caused by censoring edits) and how the desks were arranged they missed the most important takeaways and why people of all genders all over the world love this series. They also missed how many of the top/bottom, violence issues they didn’t like are the exact things we see in gay media even now. Anyway media analysis is a science as well as an art
