Seriously, if you ever owned a game and console you have the right to run it emulated right? What if you rented it at blockbuster and it was in your game files or memory cards? They'd have no way to know, also it might not later anyways. If you rented a game you legally could've spent tons of time and beat it all. So what are the official rules of it all?

As scary as these anti-piracy screens are, nothing comes close to the horror that is Earthbound's actual legitimate anti-piracy tactics which literally delete your saves.
Though current versions of the roms actually won't do that anymore, maybe they fixed it in the meantime? My friend played it on a Raspberry/RetroPi machine and the finale went regular like expected, and I... I mean, my friend... didn't even know about that harsh measure.
lol imagine being the kid who had a pirated copy of earthbound and is about to beat the game only for his dreams being shatterd his hard save file GONE!
You couldn't save either. They let you play to the very end (and it was harder) and stops (and thus deletes) the file at the VERY end, right before the final boss to my knowledge.

Nah, the personalized copies were better.
Because yeah, the Wario head videos were dumb, but the personalized copies had also those fever dream like video such as Breaking the Barrier that were waaay more intresting and also do a better job at being eerie creepy.
Also because they showed a lot of competence in romhacking while theese antipiracy videos are all just lazy and the concept of the antipiracy is not intresting, unlike the personalized copies, wich on paper were a very intresting idea (wich as I already said shown their potential sonetime).
I was a lot into the personalized copies's groove but not on this one: they took everything that was bad from the past creepypasta, leaving behind all the cool and intresting ones.

2:26 SPG64 confirmed to me that his Mario Galaxy "Anti-Piracy Screens" were made by modifying the ROM files of the game in the same manner as ROM hacks.

I feel like we are going to see anti piracy screens for pretty much every GameCube and Wii Nintendo game at this rate. This is a very weird trend of fans creating anti piracy screens but fun to watch none the less.

Something not mentioned is that it was already happening in summer while Mario 64 was hot before this took off. Someone did one for Sonic R, Toy Story snes, and Goldeneye. Speaking of I wonder if Swankybox will do the "Proof X character was almost in Melee" videos.

What does the amount of it have to do with it? Of course as the community grows, the amount of games'll grow. What's wrong with that? Except for the fact that some people charge a premium for shit content... Cough cough 2077 cough cough. If you wanna make a game make it. If that's your passion do it. If you're just gonna do it for money you're a part of the problem you are complaining about. I understand where you're comin from though. Don't necessarily disagree. I just think it's better if it's your passion and you put out art into the world. No matter what you make for it. Not that there's anything wrong with someone banking off their art. Good for them. I used to find the anti-piracy things a bit spooky, and I'm a wimp, but for some reason I'm really invested in the anti-piracy edits now lmao
I always loved Anti-piracy screens. I find them very interesting in the many ways that it's done, even if these are fan-made. I like how creepy a lot of them are; maybe they don't entirely seem as such here, but imagine playing it alone in your room at night and having one of those screens show up.

Would be cool to see of other non-Nintendo games, I stumbled with some of Joey Panetone's work recently and I can't stop thinking how would games like Persona 5 Royal anti-piracy screen look. Or Sonic Mania/Forces with that Phantom Ruby corruption effect.
One thing I don’t like is how these anti-piracy screens go more for scares than being truthful to the game.
I'm sorry Mario, but you seem to be playing a hacked version of this game. This might be an illegal copy. Since this copy has been modified, you may experience problems that would not occur on a legal copy.
Anti-piracy methods are really fascinating in general. There's a great article about the complete and utter insanity that was programmed into Spyro 3 to delay pirates long enough so that the game would the best sales possible in its first six months.
In Earthbound/Mother 2, you can play the pirated version all the way to the final boss fight and it'll delete your save.

Idk, there's something about error messages and the phrase "turn the power off NOW" that's so damn creepy to me. I used to get scared of the "it is now safe to turn off your computer" message from the earlier versions of Windows, and the Smash Bros Melee "game over" screen used to scare me pretty bad. There's something about broken game creepypasta that's so inherently unsettling that taps into that fear of technology not working as intended, or even working completely as intended but being so out of place for a kids' game.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up the DDLC-like 'anti piracy measure' of Nintendogs where it's entirely normal, until suddenly a box says '(Dog) is ill with scurvy' with realistic dog gags and coughs. Then the screens suddenly go dark, and then only the bottom screen lights up saying '(Dog) has died. Nintendogs can only survive in legitimate Nintendogs cartridges', and then a art style matching park and headstone is zoomed into with the dog's name, and another text box 'R.I.P (Dog) 2020-2020'

Neat analysis! Personally, I'm not too keen on this phenomenon; It's just creepypasta, but with modded gameplay & a repeated premise. If the premises were more varied, it might be interesting, but as is, it's not real parts of the games, & once the experience is over -Which, being deliberately creepy, I don't enjoy much to begin with.- there's no more substance to it.

I have been interested in seeing REAL anti-piracy things just to see what happens. But the trend with these fakes is it starts real, and then at a certain point it dissolves into annoying nonsense attempting to be a creepypasta....

I recently saw one of those anty piracy screens but with nintendogs
Istg this screens doesn't scare me but something about seeing in the screen "dog is sick with a mortal disease" Then seeing "dog has died" And their gravestone, and you can't do anything to prevent it filled me with fear
I went straight up to get my game and gave love to all my doggos and cats because i felt very bad
Reminds me of earthbound anti piracy method, it makes the game astronomically harder, beatable but extremely hard. But when you reach giygas, the game freezes, restarts.....
And deleted all your save files

I'm pretty sure I saw a fake SM64 anti-piracy screen back when the whole "Every copy of Super Mario 64 is Personalized" thing was still trending, way before the Mario Party DS one. That one just started THIS trend.
If and when I create a series of games, I'm going to make a real anti-piracy screen, but I'm going to make it nice and kid friendly. I just want to please the world, not scare the living daylights out of kids.
