As a cold steel aficionado I completely agree with your assessment of this product. I had the same concerns about the heavy blade. I had a dangerous episode with my Voyager XL Tanto and luckily that blade isn’t very heavy.

Thanks man, kind words are always appreciated. Yeah it's just too much for me. Hopefully you're ok from your episode with the voyager.

While I do agree that it worth noting that the Mayhem has to be treated with extra caution, I don't think it should lower the rating of the knife. Similar to how a Balisong requires more caution but people generally don't rate a knife lower just for being a Balisong. I think a safety issue that does affect a knife rating would be something like low blade retention in the close position or a lock that is prone to failure.
Price is too much, agreed. That said most people can find a much lower price online, about $240. Still a bit high but at least better than MSRP.

This is what happens when people play with weapons like they are a fidget spinner. These were on Amazon for $135.15 at the end of May 2024, so I purchased one. I EDC this in my front left pocket and alternate it with a Recon 1 XL, Espada or Talwar XL. I plan on making a Signet ring for it. Possibly a Snaggletooth or Wave device as well.

I like large CS folders as well. However there's a limit of practicality. I see this piece more like a collectors item an conversation piece.

A Part of me wants to Purchase the Mayhem but that Lock is a Major Turnoff. I had 2 XL Espada’s and they were Massive yet they were Safe Sleek and Honestly usable. Iam a Cold Steel Aficionado and Love that Brand more then any Brand out there but since GSM Took Over Cold Steel starting Nose Diving. I’ve had almost every Model Cold Steel Produced and Loved almost all of them. Since GSM has Taken over the Heat Treat and Quality went to Hell. I wis I didn’t have to sell my Collection however after Being Laid off and having Bills to pay, I had No Choice.

I'm sorry to hear that you have to sell your collection man. I was selling my most of my knives when I started this channel for the same reasons. Hopefully things get better for you man.

Yeah I've heard the same thing from other people about GSM cold steel products. Most of my cold steel knives come from before they took over

Im all for bashing knives when they deserve it, even some of my favorite knives. This is definitely not one of my favorite knives, but i also dont understand the safety criticism.
Its like calling a 12 guage dangerous because if you do something dumb and accidentally shoot yourself with it then the damage is gonna be worse than a .22.

That's fair. My big problem is that the lock they used makes it easier for accidents to happen. Like they took something that works and chose to make it sketchier. The blade floats freely so there's nothing stopping that thing from slamming down on you. With the axis locks when you disengage the lock the blade will unlock and then usually just stay in place until you move it. Something could still go wrong, but I have a lot more control over where that blade is at. With this it's all gravity. I'd compare it to driving without a seat belt. You'll probably be fine, but if you get in a accident you'll be way worse off than if you were wearing it.

I don't want to spend much more than 200$ on something that could be taken as evidence for defending myself. It's easy to get something that will do the job for under 100$.
