Step To Stardom Season One Final

IN 1979 and 1980 I produced and directed the Step to Stardom series. This was American Idol 30 years in advance. Musicians, singers, and dancers performed during the season and their performances were adjudicated by highly qualified judges. They picked five finalists to appear on the live television special and based on their final two performances a winner was chosen and scholarships awarded. Rene Marquis, Val Long and Sonya Abbott co-hosted the live show and Musical Director and band leader was Rick Hollett. Some of the contestants went on to stellar professions. Marina Piccinini is now considered one of the top performing flautists in the world. Jill Dawe is a concert pianist and Professor of Music, Mary Carol Nugent plays in a prestigious symphony.
