thank you SO MUCH for this video. I flubbed my last interview because I totally didn't prepare for a whiteboard challenge *facepalm* and now imma slide into my next one with post-it notes! haha
Hi Christine, I love this video :) Could you do a video on how you choose the company you want to work for? What are your criteria: company culture, colleagues, industry, office space, etc.? What type of questions did you write in your notebook and how they helped you make a decision about which company you want to join? That would be really great! At the end of the day, you have to choose only one company. I am interested in how you make this decision :)
thanks for this video! i'm currently in the middle of interviewing with a couple of companies for ux roles and this is very helpful to know what to expect and prepare for it.
Ohh I’m the 100th comment on this video 😆 can I make a wish? I’d love to see a video of how you might prepare a usability testing as a freelancer who might not have a team of designers.
This is amazing! I’m getting that strange feeling when they will ask for a portfolio during intern interview but you have a incomplete portfolio!! Should I just say “This is my first time getting a internship and I’m willing to use this to grow my work and add this to my portfolio?”
Can you please share how you made your resume so that it’s tailored to UI/UX? What about your past experience before the career change? Did you put that there too?
Hi, ChunBuns! Just a shout out to you and your content. Really wish I would've discovered you sooner with all these helpful tips. Thank you and hope you keep on with the quality topics on this channel! :)
This video was super helpful as someone who's only had informal interviews, I've never had an irl structured interview and it's great to find out what I should expect. As a new designer, I have a hard time questioning existing designs (when they don't have visual faults) so the app critique portion would trip me up. Do you know any resources that can help show how experienced designers would react in situations like that or questions to mentally run through to help start the process?
I just subs to your channel and actually enjoy how you explain about your life as UX designer. I'm a fresh grad that interested to join UX researcher job, your explanation is so helpful for a novice like me. Thankyou :)
At 4:20, you said you prepared for a portfolio interview anyway even though the interviewer never explicitly said you'd be doing one, and then you went straight into talking about what you did for reviews. Does this mean that you actually ended up doing a portfolio review for the company? As in, the company didn't tell you about it ahead of time and you ended up having to do one? I'm just worried because the hiring manager never told me what was going to happen for the last interview round, and I don't know if I should be preparing a portfolio presentation or not.
The interview process sounds nerve-wracking, but also like a great opportunity for growth. As a physical therapist, typically our interview process is a 15 minute chat with the hiring manager, then we’re hired. This is a totally different animal haha. The whiteboard challenge sounds the most anxiety-provoking.
I like your video so much! it's so detailed and helpful! Just got one question for the portfolio presentation, do I need to do a new ppt about it or just use my portfolio website to present?
Thank you so much for this video! It's so informative! Could you maybe do a video on how you present your portfolio to interviewers and how to get better at representing your ideas?
Hi, I love watching your videos with UX design bc theres not a lot on youtube!! So im starting school in the fall at UCSD as a cognitive science major w/ specialization in machine learning and neural computation. I was wondering is it a better chance if I switch to comp sci to get a UX job??? (:
This is really helpful as I am trying to break into ux. For the app critiques, do they give u a heads up about the specific app, or do they spontaneously ask u to pull out ur phone and critique a random app?
I have an issue of building connections and asking for referrals, because I don't think I did good in school, I've always have that realization of what I should have done too late...does anyone have similar situations? what would you do???Also I have been feeling that my ability to talk right is degrading due to language barrier, even though I am now trying to overcome it by reading more, documenting more and record myself more often, I still don't have that confidence to say " i have excellent verbal and writing communication skills" as most of the job description requires...sigh sometimes I really don't know what to do:/
Hey Ty. I didn't do good in school either, and, like you, realized what I should have done too late. With that being said, you're on the right track! By reading more, documenting, and recording yourself you're being proactive and growing. When you interview you can use this to your advantage. A common question in interviews is often "What are your strengths and weaknesses." In this you don't have to say that your feel you have great verbal skills etc...you can actually say that you feel like they need "more work." (Notice, I didn't use the word "bad" or "poor." You want to frame it in a way that is neutral, not negative.) And you can use this to highlight your strengths!! How you are proactive, you take initiative, and are always working to improve this weakness, but all you other skills. Hope this helps, and keep up the good work!
Hi Christine, great introspective. Do you believe giving tasks like redesigning their product to deliver high fi mockups is sort of free work for some companies? Short tasks are appreciated though.
Thanks for the informative video! I am doing my masters in computer science, and am trying to create a UX/interface design portfolio, how would I do it considering I have no official projects completed?
Great resourceful and informative video btw. 👍😁 truthfully, what is the starting pay av., no experience, (i understand it varies per location) but fantastic and active portfolio? anyone have freelance job success with no experience, but great portfolio? thank you all God bless!
Thanks for making the video! I'm currently looking for a job in UX field and this video is so helpful. Can you do a video about how to present the case study or portfolio ??
Dave Santiago this is what I’m looking for lmao. I was watching this thinking to myself “wtf!?” I have no experience, how the hell am I expected to go through all these interviews without any material?
@@slashnagy6 she did say in another video that she almost had no prior experience before that and those cases were the ones she had at bootcamp, or something like that
Thank you for answering my questions 🙏 asking for feedbacks during behavioral interviews is a red flag . Great to know it s a huge plus for design interviews 😊
Great video thanks! I'm noticing that these days even content strategy job interviews follow same process yet there isn't much on content reviews or a content portfolio video that I've come across.

As long as you can put out good work out there, age is not a huge determining factor in design. If you're looking to apply your HTML and CSS knowledge to the job, becoming a web developer might make more sense for you.

This video is SO EXCELLENT! Thank you so much for taking the time to create such a high-quality video. Yay for interviews! :)

I do well on design portfolio presentation, but I really suck at whiteboards.
This is great… I have a 30 minute interview on Tuesday should I have my presentation in hand cause I’ve never done an interview before

build confidence by doing more what you seem to fear doing... forget about doubts. time is more important. take on the task head on brother.
So it is normal to do a design for them at home for the next interview? What if you didn't get hired and they take your design instead?
Do you write cover letters for each job application?
