- Engine Machining - Piston Pin Clearances | Don't over look this!
Here we set and adjust piston pin clearances.
Check out the rest of our channel for dyno videos, tech, videos and more. We are a shop that designs, machines, and builds engines. We work with all types of power adders including superchargers, nitrous oxide, specializing in turbocharged combinations. We utilize our in-house chassis dyno to get safe and reliable power over several combinations. We work on vehicles powered by multiple different ecus, and engine combinations. From turbo 4g63 setups making 80+ psi of boost, to NA 5.0l mustangs. we don't forget the Chevy guys though, also working on multiple LS engines in multiple swap vehicles using several different types of engine management.

I’m not sure how to check if you have press for wrist pins or floating. Any advice
Great
On piston pin to pin bore clearance, I like to see .0008-.001 for NA street stuff. For low boost I go a bit more. For high boost and nitrous I run .0018 or so.
This is a critical clearance, most people never bother checking or adjusting piston pin to pin bore clearance.
If you can run brass stock on a lathe you can rebush the rods done in a lot of machine shops.
I agree. We are ripping the pin boss out of the pistons with a specific JE FSR 2618 pistons barely getting 125hp per cyl design using 24mm pin.
You would think the .150 pin would have failed but no strap around pin boss shearing. Molnar setting us up with a 22mm SE, bushed down.
Great videos! Do you have a part number for the id sunnen micrometer you use to check ID
Thanks! It came with the machine when we got it. Ill see if i can find a nimber on it tomorrow.

on my dirtbike I bought a new topend kit and the new piston pin is .0003 larger all around, my mechanic said he's gonna hone the rod hole to make it factory spec, does all this sound right?
Yes
