Not yet but considering having the cylinder head rebuilt on my 1996 Yanmar 3GM30F. 4000 hours. Oil consumption is slowly increasing and getting blowby pressure in the valve cover.
This was super helpful... especially dealing with real carbon-jammed bits... thanks. One comment hopefully useful... my parts diagram has only two washers above the heat shield... i have a feeling that 3rd, undersized one that slopped about shouldn't be in there. Though if it's all compressed and sealed it won't matter I guess. Anyway - thanks again.
Real happy that you found this very useful. We did notice that difference depending on which schematic. Ours was showing multiples. Not sure if it makes a big difference only 2 or 3 but our little Yanmar still runs like a charm regardless. And we're no mechanics so these are just guides. Are you rebuilding yours?
We've had a load of issues. Mainly prop shaft but decided to give the engine a little love too.... however for now we don't want to take engine block off so thanks to you we will go ahead and change the upper covers / seals but leave the combustion chamber and heat shield in place. We'll see if that works and if not we'll get out the socket set and start hammering! Anyway pleased to hear you are all good. Thanks again... ! andy
Well with every issue we learn a little something right 😉 Hopefully what you did will last for quite some time. Glad our videos could be of some use. And a little love to the engine does go a long ways plus often the mechanic is way out of reach or unavailable. Best of luck Andrew
How hard is it to disassemble the injectors and clean them? I've heard the parts inside are not listed in the Yanmar catalog, do you just reuse the seals inside? Trying to get an idea if its better just to order new ones when I decide to clean mine.
It's wasn't too hard to open the injectors up. I think yanmar sells injectors as one unit. We considered getting them serviced but there was was nobody doing it in the area and we would have had to ship them. Still cheaper than buying new ones. On the other hand the spray pattern was all good and cleaning them just required a little elbow grease. Parts for the pre combustion chamber were easily accessible and affordable. Your call on what to do we are no professionals. I guess it really depends on their state. Best of luck.
Your videos are a great tutorial and contribution to the DIY Yanmar repair crowd. Many thanks!
Thank you so much Wallace. It means a lot to us. Have you been doing major repairs on your engine?

Those little Yanmar engines sure run for many hours. Best of luck if you do it
I continue to follow your progess with great attention. I've got the same engine from 1989. Thanks for sharing!
Great to hear David. How's your engine doing, no issues we hope?
@@WildlyIntrepid No problems, yet. Just a matter of time. Thanks again.

Gasket, combustion chamber, gasket, heat shield, two washers (only) and then the external seal.
