    Hey @MissBrewbird, I’m looking at taking Module 1 and 2 this June, I was just curious, after going through all three modules, where do you think your studying fell short or what do you think you could have done better to prepare for the exams? I’m concerned that all the materials tested aren’t provided for the modules. I’ve heard that some of the old exams and materials have questions on the current exams that wasn’t available?

    • @MissBrewbird
      @MissBrewbird  Год назад +1

      Hmm I do feel like you can achieve a very good mark just by studying the materials they provide. I would say that I fell short with the calculations and I also didn't fully understand some of the graphs and how to use them in Module 2. You should feel extremely confident doing the calculations since you will be doing them under timed pressure during the exams. I did review things many times, but I don't think I memorized/understood the charts, graphs, and chemical formulas as well as I should have.

    Congrats! Did you do the General Certificate in Distilling before attempting the Diploma or go straight to the diploma?

      Nevermind, I just watched your video on Module 1 and you said you didn't do the General Certificate.

      I had a diploma in brewing and brewery operations, so I felt confident not doing the General Certificate first. I think if you feel like you have a good foundational science background you can just jump right into the diploma program.

      @@MissBrewbird I'm not sure what I have as far as foundational science background! I think I'll skip the Foundations of Distilling as the General Certificate covers the same stuff more in-depth.
      While I'm working on the General Certificate I will do a running self-assessment of my knowledge. I have until January 15th 2024 to decide if I want to try for the Diploma Module 1 exam. If so I'll still take my General Certificate Exam in March as it's only one test so I have something while I'm working on the Diploma. I'd then focus completely on Module 1 and take that Exam in June.
      If by January 15th I find that I don't have time (work) or that I'm not where I think I need to be then I'll put off the Diploma and register for 2025. It's fairly frustrating that the exams for the Diploma and higher are only once per year and stacked right against each other. If they were held twice per year or staggered spring/fall then I'd try for Module 1 and Module 2 in 2024 with Module 3 in 2025.
      Since they are not I'd have to study for Module 1 in 2024 and attempt to combine both Module 2 and 3 for 2025 or spread them across 3 years like you did.
      It's the same story for the Master Distiller Certificate. It may take years. I could go to Heriot Watt University and get a Master's Degree in Brewing and Distilling faster than taking the exams once per year. :-)
