Take the Beatles for example, they wrote tons of amazing and influential music, but the songs please Mr postman, till there was you, and roll over Beethoven we're all covers! They were still an amazing band, but also appreciated and wanted to play other people's music

I love everlong and i love foo fighters dave grohl specifically and i have for years now and i am very happy and glad that they are finally getting the worldwide mainstream recognition they deserve but man the covers and edits of everlong just dont do it for me, and its all everlong like dont get me wrong it is a fucking fantastic amazing song but there is so many others you could choose even from the same album colour and the shape there are so many amazing ones

Keep in mind the proximity effect when singing close to mics, that coupled with cupping the mic makes for a super muddy vocal mix.
