    I love my OP39. It's my first Rolex and gets more wrist time than any of my watches hands down. I added the easy link that comes on the Explorer 39 to my OP39 bracelet so that it can be extended when my wrist expands in the heat. It's an affordable modification that is easy to make using OEM Rolex parts.

      I am looking to do the same thing for my Rolex op39. If you don't mind me asking how did you go about acquiring the easy link? Ask your AD? found the part on a forum? Thanks in advance for your help!

    The more ground I cover in this hobby the clearer it becomes that the combined beauty, simplicity, elegance, and toughness of the OP 39 is simply genius. The white dial version is an iconic part of my collection, forever.

    Just picked up my rhodium OP last week, love it. Elegant, clean, perfect. The white markers at 369 really stand out against that sunburst dial with subtle blue dots. Classy watch and no means entry in quality. In fact I would still prefer this over many other Rolex.

    I bought matching his-and-hers red grape Rolex OP’s for my parents. My father’s had troubles with the movement and had to make two round trips to Switzerland. Rolex was hardly accommodating about the whole thing. But the bugs seem to be worked out of it now and both love what I bought them.

    I bought the 114200 last summer, 34 mm black dial and have worn it every day since. It has surprising heft, very solid. Extremely comfortable on the wrist. Understated, yet just enough bling and the bracelet is fantastic. If I never get another watch, I'll be okay with it. Entry level sure, but perhaps the most elegant of the Rolex line.

    Congrats to you and Fed for the business milestone commemorative gifts. I've been daily wearing the modern OP39 Black for about 9 months. It's a fantastic watch you don't want to take off. The Black OP39 fits absolutely any occasion with exception of true scuba diving at depths. I fully enjoy the bracelet and clasp because it gets the job done securely with aesthetic grace, while using minimum/optimized amount of steel. No bulk, just enough. Black dial is completely timeless and devoid of distractions through it's perfect symmetry. This makes you notice the quality of the oyster case and bracelet even more.

  • @hanstheman570
    @hanstheman570 4 года назад +1

    Great review John but with your smaller wrist size you should have gone for the 36mm. The lume on the 36mm is on all indices (apart from the 12) but on your model lume is on 3, 6 and 9 only. That was enough to put me off the 39mm.

    • @tbprofile1295

      Funny how that works. My wrist size is above the 8 inch mark and I tried on the 39mm and felt it was too big. I am debating between the 36mm and 34mm with the Red Grape dial. Just goes to show that the OP lineup has something for everyone.

    • @Justin6477
      @Justin6477 4 года назад +4

      Worth noting the dial design is actually pretty different; the '39 is more similar to the '34 when you look at the indices. Given that it's rolex you'd think it'd be the exact same watch in different sizes, but no, it actually does vary quite a bit.

    And there's my next purchase. Sadly, there aren't many ADs near me, closest is about an hour's drive, and when I went all they had were date-justs. The rep also told me that OPs are hard to get, which may not be a complete lie given that there aren't a lot of ADs in my area. Northwest Florida is not Miami or New York. Got a green-dial aqua terra on the bracelet instead. Always intended to get both watches eventually, but that red grape in the 39mm has my heart.

    The first watch I bought when I started collecting in 2018 was on OP36 with silver dial. I still love it, but don't wear it very often since the lack of contrast between the hands and the dial makes it too hard to read at a glance. I prefer the stick indices over the round indices on my Sub & GMT, especially the way that they sparkle as they catch the light.

    • @thirtysixtothirtynine9657
      @thirtysixtothirtynine9657 4 года назад +1

      I agree. I have same watch as you. It needs perfect lighting to see the time. I have a black dial zenith with chrome hands and no lume I can see from 6' away. haha.

    • @BlakeMcArthurArt
      @BlakeMcArthurArt 4 года назад

      @@thirtysixtothirtynine9657 It's probably the hardest to read watch in my collection. I had chosen the silver dial because I thought it looked the best, and in certain lighting, it can actually be fairly easy to read. Unfortunately, I find that I pretty much always need to adjust the angle in order to read it. It's a real shame, since it's otherwise an awesome watch.
      I have a couple that are like your Zenith - the Tudor BB58 and the Omega SMP 2255.80. They get much more wrist time than the OP just because they are so easy to read.

    Seems that when I get a Rolex, it's usually one with polished center links. I became interested in this OP39 to have an all brushed bracelet casual watch that's simple and basic. Conferring with my AD, he thought the black & white dials are a little more dressy so we went with the dark rhodium. The funny thing about this pursuit was so many RUclipsrs seemed to think that any OP was readily available, some even stating that your AD would have one in the display window. This took longer to get than my steel SkyDweller - luck of the draw I guess. Regarding a 'date' window, I prefer not to have one since I can't see it anyway without putting on my reading glasses. However, it does come in handy when a watch seems to be losing power reserve and I need to see how long it runs before stopping.

      I think you should look into Tudor then,
      With the date models would go for the GMT or the Pelagos.
      They are definitely more into the tool watch vibe on it.
      And the Pelagos bracelet it really good, though not sure how you like it cause it's titanium.

    I use date whenever in conversation somebody ask what date is today. I can tell right of the bat meanwhile my friends are still looking at their phone.
    But I ask you John, which is better for daily watch OP39 or Explorer 39?

    I disagree, the best everyday luxury watch is the Oris Classic date! Which I just happen to own.

    This color is not so easy To combine with closes. And not enough discret with a suit.

      Seems like if you got a black or white dial on it, you could truly wear it in all settings!

    Can not see how someone considering himself a watch guy can grade an OP over Explorer I as a better everyday wear watch.

    I was hesitating between this and the Tudor BB58 and I got the Tudor, very happy with my choice, Rolex is overpriced now

    They have more customers than watches. Ok, but at some point this is going to end. I sell wine, expensive allocated wine. We operate with the mindset that you aren't always on top. You need to treat people like you would when you need the business, or they won't be there when you really need them. Rolex is playing dangerous game that works great, until it doesn't.
    BTW, I know it's "entry level" but at $5,700 SRP it should be the best.
