Frederick, I’m no spring chicken either. Finally got my OP but just couldn’t lay out all those pennies while my kids were in college. Enjoying it now though.
The new OP is real nice. I like that all the hours have those lumed batons. Much more legible and visually appealing. Something I would have liked on mine.
Got this one last year. So versatile! Works with casual and formal. Slim enough to slip under the cuff yet at 39mm enough presence but not too big for my 6-5/8” wrist. And the blue pips on the rhodium dial , especially when the sun hits it, is just the right touch.
I have the same watch, I got it as my first Rolex. I also think it's the best looking and versatile watch Rolex has to offer. Though I agree it would have been nice to have more lume, I never have a problem reading the time. I had my hands on all the different dial variations, and I still think this is the best.
I have just bought the blue one and haven’t taken it off since I bought it. Very accurate, gains six seconds a week and has a great quality finish. What I like is that it is quite understated, which suits me fine. Downside, no date and poor lume but it’s a fabulous watch and definitely a keeper.
Another review mentioned how Rolex pulled back on making these color variations of the oyster. He said it's was too much of fun side for Rolex. What?! What's wrong with luxury and fun? Fun Rolex is where they need to go imo. I'm 43.
I ordered a Datejust 41 blue and while waiting for it happened to see the 39 with Rhodium and bought it. When the 41 came I did look at it side by side with the 39 Rhodium and I decided to not buy the 41 because I prefer the look of the 39. The 39 is more understated and at the same time interesting to look at and even though it is 2mm smaller because the bezel is also smaller the face actually appears bigger on the 39 than the 41 when you put them side by side. It has a less "bling" more restrained look that makes it ideal for dress shirts/blazer or casual pull over shirts etc. It's just a great piece and I think the blue dots really add some playful contrast that will make this a classic.
Just got the rhodium one. Absolutly love it. It's really simple and elegant. It will be my daily driver now and I will keep my green sub for special occasions. I had a choose of blue or rhodium and after looking at both at ad for about 30 mins I decided on the rhodium. The ad actually said the rhodium is harder to get, over a year they received much less rhodium than blue ones. A black strap will be very nice on the rhodium.
Great review -- Bought mine in white and really love the watch. The bracelet hands down is the most comfortable bracelet I own. Dial turns silver which is interesting. I had not realized there was a spring in the clasp. The only critique I have is that the Oystersteel dings/dents easily in my experience.
I'm forktruck driver and material handler for a major warehouse company...I would look snobbish with a Rolex on, but I'll wear it. Wearing my Citizens Pro Diver BN0191 makes me look snobbish. LOL!
The OP, explorer and DJs work great on leather and suede but if you have the newer versions, the bracelets and clasps are so good it’s almost a crime not to use them. If you think you might sell it in the future it’s a good way to save wear and tear on the original bracelet though, let a (relatively ) cheaper strap take the daily wear. I really like the new white dial version but am drawn to the Explorer. Not sure why as on paper the OP is preferable (bezel, hands and applied logo) but the allure of the Explorer is strong.
Great review bub, I loved the look of the watch, but when I saw this watch in person I was done. Very comfortable on the wrist. Not A showy watch. If you want a flashy statement watch go for a Sub or Explorer. If you want an awesome all around go for this
Hi! I’m interested in buying a perpetual oyster, on which website did u bought it ? The quality looks really good and as you received it it seems to be a serious website aha
I've got the blue dial in 39mm. What got me in the door was the balanced size of the case (not modern and garish, not too small) and the dial color, but what sold me was how comfortable it was to wear.
I have this Rolex and the sarb 035. The sarb 035 is the reason I won’t get a light dialed datejust. It’s too nice, comfortable, and a damned great watch to have it sit in the drawer. I know the Rolex is better, but for the price, not 25 times better.
brackpersian : not much more than the OP. 035 had brushed top of case with polished sides and bezel. And it’s not really a shine but rather a heavenly glow :)
Excellent review in full details. I just purchased this watch for my wife and she really likes it. Interesting about the crown alignment, my GMT2 doesn't line up like this model and I wonder why?
Thanks for the quick reply, I have subscribed to your channel and also enjoyed your reviews on Seiko vs Rolex etc. My son recently purchased the Grand Seiko Snowflake and the workmanship is second to none and it seems that it has more refinements than Rolex in terms of craftsmanship.
I had a DJ41 with blue Dial ... I ended up getting rid of it because it was just too flashy for me, I should have got this instead. It's just so simple and clean.
I love the 39 but I'm holding out for the new 41. While I'm found of the case size and the subtle colors I found the hour hand a little "stubby", the minimal lum odd, and the clasp lacking in function. They are also going for $8K and that's just WAY too much. A common complaint about Rolex and the secondary market in general.
Hi, I need your input. I have contacted an AD regarding to buy a Rolex OP 39 White dial. They replied saying they have an OP 39 with a black dial and offered to change out the dial for a white one they have laying about to sell me the watch. My question is doesn't that decrease the value of the watch? Secondly, if one would search the serial number in the future does it say anything about being black then? Please give me your input about this. Is the AD person super lazy and should I make the demand (politely) that they order a new one with right dial... So the tampering with the Rolex doesn't decrease the value? Give me your thoughts regarding the matter. Love your work and hope to get a speedy reply. Zach
Hi Zach, that's a weird one, I've never heard a dealer make that offer. If they are an authorized dealer and they have a certified Rolex watchmaker doing the service it shouldn't effect the value. Also, there's no way of telling dial color by SN to my knowledge as long as both dial colors were offered during the SN production run.
so elegant without trying--wonderful review. as it ages and the crown is opened and closed, the orientation will most likely change as the gasket flattens a bit. i had to laugh about your "grandfather's" rolex., the stainless and gold, which i acquired overseas in the early seventies!
I can dig these watches, but for the price a little too plain for my taste I think. I’d rather spend some more and get an explorer 2 or the Milgauss if you like time only. Definitely still cool though
Good point, I did mention that I want to check one out, but didn't include the additional colors, my mind was locked into what they released in 2015 I suppose. I haven't seen the white or black in person yet, have you?
Just Watch I've had a look on both videos and photos, and I believe the black and white are more cheap and simple in dial finish, just gloss with no sunburst effect? Might reduce the glare though. ☺
Interesting, they typically do a great job getting a "wet enamel" look on their black or white dials, I'd really like to see one personally, I've been looking and they seem very scarce and I've seen none for sale on the secondary market.
HI Roy, thanks for the question. It depends on if you like the "oversize" watch look or not. If so, a 39 will look a bit oversized on you. If you want something more moderate, I think a 36mm would be great on you, if you want to trend towards slightly smaller check a 34mm out. I have a 7" wrist and I"m wearing a vintage 36mm Datejust today and it looks great on the wrist. Cheers!
34-36 was the rolex size for years, I have small wrists and the 39 looks good but i would go 36 as i have the option of passing it on to my daughter too
Great review, very in love with this watch and so is my wife... this is going to be the watch I buy next year, in this color way. Already used up my watch budget for this year 🙂
The lume last 10min even on a new 2020 OP models. Don't go crazy about it. We have the new turkis Op and even it spends hours outside on a sunshine the lume doesn't last long.
It’s always repeated that OP39’s colorful dots at hours would be something ”never seen before”. But that’s nonsense. Exactly same kind of small squares were used in an exactly same fashion in Milgauss about 10 years ago. Black dial, orange squares.

It's Rolex trying to do a fashion watch in this colour scheme..... nope, no, stop. Lol. I don't think it will be very long before Rolex ditch the coloured markers. The black, white and blue are the ONLY way to go. I own the white....looks white in day light and almost silver at night. Very nice. Excellent watch, just not in this colour scheme. It's like getting a Ferrari in lime green, the resell will be effected...if that's in issue for you. P.s. It's all personal taste of course :) if you love the colour scheme, then I guess it doesn't matter does it? Great review though 🔥
But yeah one of the best watches Rolex make .. I would go for the hulk+date jsut jubilee fluted blue dial ( maybe even diamond lol) or one watch being OP 39
Great review but may I suggest wearing gloves for your next review. Would allow for more focus on the watch itself vs your hands and fingernails. Beautiful timepiece.
The 39mm is too big for my skinny ass bird-like wrists. I think I have to buy the OP 34 Olive green dial, that's a pretty nice watch too, very underrated and not many reviews of it.
They actually make it easier to find the hour markers. The green on the blue is not as powerful on the eye as the sunburst blue itself, and in particular the shade of blue they used. The blue pipe on the rhodium make a stronger contrast.
You basically just pay an extra grand for the word explorer on the dial, better lume and a different clasp. I prefer the OP clasp and hands and the OP has the history and a choice of colours, so I'd choose the OP36 blue dial myself
I'm not young, and the Oyster Perpetual is, to my eyes, the best looking Rolex in the collection.
I really like the new black dial variant of the OP in 39mm.
@@JustWatchreviews Totally agree. I'm buying a black dial Oyster Perpetual if I hit my 2019 sales goal- 100K in life insurance premium.
Frederick you have good taste. I've been wearing a Rolex since I was 18. My father gave me my first Rolex Oyster Perpetual.

One of the most elegant and understated watches in the Rolex lineup. Superb!

I love how the Rhodium changes color as well. Thanks for the comment!
Hows the accuracy?
AH Baig : +1-2 sec/day
themightysquid great 👍👍
Ended up selling the OP and getting an Explorer2(model 16570, year2000). I wasn’t wearing the OP enough and lean more toward sport watches.
Got this one yesterday! Absolutely classic and elegant! Enjoying it so much.....
Me too. I paid chf 5400 here in Zurich
I paid 7280 CAD including taxes here in Vancouver
I have the same watch, I got it as my first Rolex. I also think it's the best looking and versatile watch Rolex has to offer. Though I agree it would have been nice to have more lume, I never have a problem reading the time. I had my hands on all the different dial variations, and I still think this is the best.
Just bought mine (blue face), really happy with it. Great review.
Thanks Nicholas, that blue dial is gorgeous. Enjoy!
This model is growing on me....great review mate.
Thanks Shawn, it had the same effect on me, I thought it too plain at first and then really grew to like it
What a beauty. Too bad this specific watch is discontinued. That 39mm size with the rhodium dial is timeless! Definitely getting this one.
I have just bought the blue one and haven’t taken it off since I bought it. Very accurate, gains six seconds a week and has a great quality finish. What I like is that it is quite understated, which suits me fine. Downside, no date and poor lume but it’s a fabulous watch and definitely a keeper.

This and the explorer is the only Rolex I would buy. No nonsense every day watches.
Matching blue second hand of the rhodium Yacht-Master would be awesome.

I’m saving for one right now I got about 4400 bucks towards it now but I saw and tried one on there a amazing watch
Better than the Explorer!
I love my Oyster Perpetual white dial
A shame Rolex doesn't do the Oyster Perpetual in precious metals. I'd love an 18k gold version of this watch.
That would be nice. Thanks for checking in!
They use too. Hopefully they will bring it back
Which color of dial is more shining ?
That’s really hard to say as it depends greatly on the light and surroundings
Hi! I’m interested in buying a perpetual oyster, on which website did u bought it ? The quality looks really good and as you received it it seems to be a serious website aha
Ive got the Blue but i do love the Rhodium. The best looking Rolex out there in my opinion
I've got the blue dial in 39mm. What got me in the door was the balanced size of the case (not modern and garish, not too small) and the dial color, but what sold me was how comfortable it was to wear.
I agree on the size, it's really nice on my 7" wrist!
Nice watch... I was also looking at it and its blue brother. However, I went with the OP 36 with the blue dial and arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9.
Christian Andersen I also looked at the 39mm OPs, found they were a tad too big for my wrist and ended up going home with the blue dial 36mm.
Snap! The 36mm in my opinion is better proportioned and more comfortable.

I'd like a day and date, but I'll go without to avoid the cyclopse.
Just wish they’d get rid of the bright blue pips. Would be such a versatile and timeless daily wear. Same for the green on the blue.
If they get rid of the bright blue pips then there would no reason to buy it.
They actually make it easier to find the hour markers. The green on the blue is not as powerful on the eye as the sunburst blue itself, and in particular the shade of blue they used. The blue pipe on the rhodium make a stronger contrast.
i'd get the 39mm explorer 1 more history behind it.
Wrong. Oyster perpetual has. Oyster perpetual was worn on Everest, explorer was a name that came long time after from Rolex.
You basically just pay an extra grand for the word explorer on the dial, better lume and a different clasp. I prefer the OP clasp and hands and the OP has the history and a choice of colours, so I'd choose the OP36 blue dial myself
But without date 😢
To me, that's a benefit, I really like the clean, symmetrical dial. :-)
