I super love layering the sample with up or down pitched version of itself, I use that idea quite a lot. Typically I'm also adding some different processing and resampling it first, then pitching that, to for example have a sample that sounds like slowed down with a bad quality tape if using saturation, or pitching reverb reflections that has been mentioned before on this channel too!
Samples used to feel unmanageable to me, not that I couldn't chop and stretch them but it took SO MUCH time. Serato sample was a game changer for me. I probably could have gotten faster at doing it right in my DAW but doing everything I want takes no time at all in Serato
Hey Navie, can you make a video about how you aquired your placement for My Friend Pedro, and maybe give some insight on the what the process was like composing for a video game? I think that would be a hella interesting video.
it's not even 3/4 it's a triplet melody at 80bpm lol, he got it completely wrong but it can happen sometimes with triplet melodies when you never use triplets cause it's very uncommon in actual hiphop to use triplets, only in trap its more common
how does one adjust the tracks in piano roll (FL studio) to end and loop back at the same time. I've tried quantizing, but some notes run longer before looping back to the beginning.
nav you cold beast bro wow that last one i would self chop in the old mpc but i had to step away from it technical difficulties ugggh found new lover fl 20 i do stuff i never thought i barely use samples thanks you and busy great teachers
Time to make some sampled beat ;-) Thanks for your video. Decent amount of knowledge as always. All beats are dope, but the one starting at 6:18 is my absolute favourite ❤🔥
He’s saying they’re super basic sounding. You can chop it up if you want but might as well keep it as is and make a basic ass trap beat, if you’re gonna use it as all. Don’t stray away from guitars though, they can be great if used right, just so many basic trap beats with a guitar loop. Using jazzier/bluesier guitar samples will get a less basic sound and using them as accents rather than the center of your beat will also help.
At 6:44 when you listen to the high notes from the sample, it really gave me a vibe close to the sample from $uicideboy$ - King Tulip (when their melody starts after the intro and throughout the beat)
How can you throw away that second sample, that was by far the best sample of the 3 to work with and could’ve easily turn it in something sounding like an electric piano to make some variation
0:32 that was actually not 3/4 lol it was just triplet rhythm in 4/4 and Ig you didn't notice that but all g, if you think of the notes as triplets and you make a metronome with some sound of your mouth to it you can easily tell it's in 4/4. It's actually around 80 bpm btw
A 3/4 beat still has a 4/4 count…..count on the 1 🙃 Instead of 1,2,3,4 it would be 1…2…3…4…1 (etc). It will be a slower bpm obliviously, but you will be able to loop it in my experience.
Hey Navie, is there any way to make a guitar beat that's not cringe? I usually feel the same way about guitar samples, but there has to be a way of making a good guitar beat
Don’t sleep on drums and textures. You could try to use more live-sounding drums, bass and other stuff that you don’t usually find in a basic corny ass trap beat. Also, listen to different genres helps a lot.
Hmmm... Idk if you will really do it, but I wanna see you flip animal parade from the Teletubbies show! Nobody believes me when I say it already sounds way too good for just a song used on a baby show, and that it could be the best beat in the world!
Okay Okay, but hear me out, if your really this so called top tier producer, you should be able to make a guitar sample not become a guitar type beat🤔🤔🤔
What's wrong with Guitar type beats? (Asking respectfully of course) ... Some of HipHop's &RnB's most successful songs from the golden era are based on Guitar hooks / samples
Nick Mira wants to know your location. The beat at 6:24 is exactly why you can make that joke you’re a magician. Guitar samples can be useful though if you play with them enough that they don’t sound like guitar anymore.
Navie, you're from far one of the best producers I have listened to in my entire life. You know the game really well, in my humble opinion, you should be out there in the industry instrumentalizing for the biggest rappers. Also seen your work with P.E. and Joey Bada$$. Honestly it’s rly hard to flip a guitar without it sounding like you want to produce for Ice Spice off of type beats
Electric guitars can make good samples though.
Listen to "Blood Reign" by Jedi Mind Tricks. That's a guitar sample done right.
