Actually lots of non millennials buy luxury goods. I seriously doubt this video is telling the truth because a while back I read an article that claimed the largest group buying luxury goods are older wealthy Chinese tycoons.
Sorry but Gucci would be NOTHING without Tom Ford. The brand was on the verge of obscurity in the 70s and 80s then Tom Ford came in and made it immensely popular. EVERYONE famous wore Gucci during those Tom Ford years. If it wasn't for him Gucci would not have the prestige to its name that it has today. So yeah Alessandro Michele might be enjoying the harvest but it was Tom Ford who made all that possible. #TheMoreYouKnow
I don't think people realize how old millennials actually are. The age range they gave was 18-35, which means there's a lot of millennials out there who are in their mid 30s. Millennials were actually born between the years 1981-1986, putting the youngest at 22 years old. I doubt it's a bunch of "broke young people" buying $400 t-shirts like people shaming them seem to think. A lot of millennials are actually old enough to have stable jobs, which means they could afford name brand stuff. My opinion on consumer culture is irrelevant; I'm just sick of people shaming millennials for being young and stupid when they're older than you think.
@@bibletwink666 Yeah. People like to focus so much on millenials and forget the newer generations completely. Gen Z which are something around 9-22 y.o right now are rarely talked about.
Eh depends on the person. Whether you agree or not, people need to impress other people for their business and if they have to dress a certain way to attract followers/viewers then technically they are investing
Exactly!! I was thinking what kind of millennial can even AFFORD Gucci....? Millennial jobs certainly do NOT pay enough to be able to buy brands like Gucci on top of other expenses like high rent/mortgages nowadays, etc..........unless those millennials have wealthy parents who supplement their income........
Kidat Uni Well there is you’re answer most millennials don’t have mortgages to pay because it’s too expensive to move out. We are staying at home with our parents a little longer meaning we should have a bit of extra cash. Less millennials like myself don’t want children so there once again that’s another reason why you be able to afford luxury goods. It’s also down to you’re lifestyle if you waste your money on going out partying etc you’re not going too have a lot of extra cash. If you know how to budget and save you could buy a new luxury item every few months! It’s down to you and what you choose to cash out on don’t waste your money on so much clothes , don’t waste your money on eating out and buying so much takeaway , don’t waste you’re money on things you don’t need shop smart. Then you can afford all these expensive items make a wish list of what you want to buy set yourself a goal and aim for it. It’s so simple
Not true, Gucci is still a display of wealth. People buy countless knockoffs or fakes to appear to have an expensive look without breaking the bank. So many millennials like myself are now looking to ecommerce clothing brands where you dont pay for that huge hidden price of endorsing celebrities and million dollar marketing campaigns. Many millennials are now focused on quality and sustainability and are willing to pay for that, not stylish company logo. And those who aren't buy fakes.
i never said Gucci wasn't a display of wealth, consider reading before replying. Though your point about millennials increasingly looking for sustainable products many millennial are also focusing flaunting a brand label (rise of supreme and other expensive street wear).
Can the internet not use the word 'millenials' for one day? Also I feel like this is just an extension of youtuber and Instagram bloggers. I used to be very into watching fashion RUclipsrs when I was in school. They only every bought forever 21 or things under 100 dollars. Now everything is so pretentious and all about 'trends'. I can't take these 'influencers' seriously anymore. I mean idc who wears how much Gucci but the RUclips and Instagram obsessive folk with their 'must have' GG belts, dionysus bags and whatever has put me off luxury stuff before I could even get to affording these brands lol.
@@kaelyns6170 I feel like social media reallyyy made everything so weird and silly. If all these platforms didn't take over everyone's lives so much, media, entertainment, fashion etc would still have been chill pastimes.
Well true the internet does always use the word millennial without knowing what it means. Millennial have a specific age group. Also buying designer items is nothing. Back in 2012-2014 people Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors were popular among fashion and beauty vloggers. Also there are problems with fast fashion ( poor working conditions, sustainability issues,etc.).
@@patronusstag Entertainment and the media was never chill. Back in the 90's with the OJ Simpson murder case everyone was glued to their TV's. When Princess Diana was in her car and got chased by the paparazzi and died in a car accident you think the media was "chill" back then? Even in Myspace days there were already issues. Like the top friends list and cyber bullying happening before too.
Idk it’s everywhere in Toronto most UofT students have Gucci Aces and belts... But Gucci is also saturated here so ppl are going to other designer brands like YSL, LV, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Giuseppe Zanotti, Rick Owens, Kenzo, Christian Louboutin, Thom Browne etc...
I love Gucci. I just hate when people wear fake stuff. I totally understand if you can't afford it, but if you can't afford it, don't disgust other people who actually have the real product by getting fake stuff. You don't have to have it. but if you do, don't shame yourself by buying fake stuff. There is no shame in not having nice clothing like Gucci or LV, but, there is when it's fake.
Thrift shops always have anything that suits to me also i love thrift store because their cloth is plain, no large logos on t-shirt also i find so many good sweaters at thrift store
Because people think these 'luxury' brands give them status and confidence. People nowadays live for the approval of other rather than the approval of themself sadly.
Im 28 and work as a FedEx driver. I see everyone near my age at work live pay check to pay check. They cant control their spending yet I’m saving for a house.
Luke Bates Nothing wise about buying this shit unless you're planning on re-selling it to some other sucker stupid enough to waste 300 dollars on a t-shirt.
if you buy for example a limited collaboration like supreme x Louis Vuitton that might be true but gucci isn't limited so in most cases no price increase.
Honestly it’s kind of a shame to see people call this brand “tacky” or “overrated” because there’s actually so much to appreciate about this brand; it has a really long family-history and even a scandal involving the heir of the Gucci brand, showing a time where Gucci was losing their exclusivity and were targeting a different clientele. Guccio Gucci was the funder of the brand, born in Florence, starting with luxurious and handmade luggages and leather goods and then started making their iconic bags - which are simply it-bags - from the bamboo bag to the Jackie to the classic logo.. Michele started to push the boundaries of the history of Gucci’s sleek elegance embracing a new identity, revamping the brand just as Tom Ford did!! He was a game changer and an icon at doing what he does/did. So yeah I’m sorry people don’t see how great this brand still is, still has the same craftsmanship and dedication it once had!!!
I agree. Millennial men especially are more into fashion than the men from the past. It's no longer seen as gay for a guy to be into fashion. But you don't need to spend lots of money to look good.
Depends on what you label as extravagant. If it's a conventional form of extravagant clothing (expensive designer labels), then I agree. I do like it when people are creative with their styling choices, though. But expensive =/= creative
My theory is that gucci has research for every 60's 70's 80's 90's tv shows, comics, movies etc, that were very popular and vintage esthetic... so when millennials think in dress well and complete their outfits they go back in time and memory and pick something secure something vintage something that been seen before instead of something new and futuristic looking, because no one knows what would happen next day... and anxiety culture make a big role in marking and shape millennial taste. Its all marked by work politics and globalwarming and causes. All is very extreme in this times love/hate. Also the planet is very hot and very cold and catastrophes show that. And millennials react to that in a way of play safe and choose something familiar from their youth or memory, something vintage looking like gucci. Idk
Isn’t Gucci is for try too hard tasteless pretenders? Because some people have a bit of money but they don’t do enough research to buy better brands... let’s face it, Gucci is not that expensive after all... I don’t consider any brands that you can buy from premium outlets luxury
Gucci was never tasteless until these types of Millennials (aka rappers/Kardashians/social media "stars" with rich parents) started wearing it.............
is it just me or is the nyu professor LOVES Gucci too.. making her input biased.. nah luxury brands should stick to what they do, that's why they're called luxury because they make you spend smart..
This is just me but those who truly understand fashion know that what makes an outfit is style and silhouette even if the items that stand out are cheap/thrifted rather than glued logos that give off that I understand fashion. These mindsets need a shift to see that I dont have to be naked to look hot or desirable, but the confidence I wear leaves them jaw dropped. Thank you!

Gucci will never be Kors or Coach. MK sold all their stuff at Marshall and TJ Maxx, so why would anyone go to an MK store and buy their stuff? Poor business model.
Michael Kors and Coach aren’t nearly as tacky as Gucci, in my opinion.

Actually lots of non millennials buy luxury goods. I seriously doubt this video is telling the truth because a while back I read an article that claimed the largest group buying luxury goods are older wealthy Chinese tycoons.
I couldn't think of a username that’s accurate though. They have Versace furniture.
One of my wealthy friends likes Gucci, and I still don't get the hype.Their stuff seems really cheap and tacky, but the prices are outrageous.
You just described their hype
Sorry but Gucci would be NOTHING without Tom Ford. The brand was on the verge of obscurity in the 70s and 80s then Tom Ford came in and made it immensely popular. EVERYONE famous wore Gucci during those Tom Ford years. If it wasn't for him Gucci would not have the prestige to its name that it has today. So yeah Alessandro Michele might be enjoying the harvest but it was Tom Ford who made all that possible. #TheMoreYouKnow
Exactly.
Ford chose Michele BTW
Not really, since the advent of Michele, Gucci increased of more then 50% every year!

Not in the eighties. Gucci handbags were very popular in the 80s. I had two of them. Everyone I knew had a Gucci handbag back then.

@@arjansahota4911 Eh I'm Gen Z and still don't get the appeal.

Simple answer: to show status
Actually a 18 year old would be Gen Z
How did you calculate 22 years from 1981 - 1986. That's 32 years from 2018.
@ohmygodohmygodohmygod ok makes sense. That makes me one of the last millennials then.
People make millennials seem so young, I thougjt they were lkke 18 year olds.
@@bibletwink666
Yeah. People like to focus so much on millenials and forget the newer generations completely. Gen Z which are something around 9-22 y.o right now are rarely talked about.

Spending all their money on brands like Gucci and not investing their money that will make it grow. Instead of showing off
Oh. Well. More money for me.
Eh depends on the person. Whether you agree or not, people need to impress other people for their business and if they have to dress a certain way to attract followers/viewers then technically they are investing
@kabramble me? Hell no im broke
It’s important to enjoy your money as well, what good does all that money do if you never spend any?
I agree on the investing , not the other part.
Reminds me of something I heard awhile ago, "We're using money we don't have, buying things we don't need, to impress people we don't like.
I also “love” Gucci (I’m a millennial), but I love being able to pay for electricity a lot more. 😂
Lol. That’s wisdom.
"Young,Dumb, and broke" but still rock Gucci.

@@shamanisticburrito9301 no! You are otaku end of story 😂
I remember people saying 10y ago, that millennials are less materialistic than previous generations. Well, LMFAO.
As long as someone wants to make $$$$, they’ll get people to buy anything.
U are so cheap, fake rich, attention seeker and trying to fit in
Can the internet not use the word 'millenials' for one day?
Also I feel like this is just an extension of youtuber and Instagram bloggers. I used to be very into watching fashion RUclipsrs when I was in school. They only every bought forever 21 or things under 100 dollars. Now everything is so pretentious and all about 'trends'. I can't take these 'influencers' seriously anymore.
I mean idc who wears how much Gucci but the RUclips and Instagram obsessive folk with their 'must have' GG belts, dionysus bags and whatever has put me off luxury stuff before I could even get to affording these brands lol.
There are luxury brands that are still good for the most part but yeah, beauty/outfit blogging died around 2013-14 imo and I was only around 14.
But also I just hate what happened to fashion and culture and music in general around 2013. I just hate the 20teens basically.
I know a total of zero millennials who love or wear Gucci, both wealthy and poor. Where is Business Insider getting their data from?
It is told at the beginning of the video
Idk it’s everywhere in Toronto most UofT students have Gucci Aces and belts... But Gucci is also saturated here so ppl are going to other designer brands like YSL, LV, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Giuseppe Zanotti, Rick Owens, Kenzo, Christian Louboutin, Thom Browne etc...
What you need to see is that Gucci is worldwide Company, so it sell in almost every big city

I disagree about EVRYTHING from gucci being ugly tho, it's mostly the ghetto stuff.
I love Gucci. I just hate when people wear fake stuff. I totally understand if you can't afford it, but if you can't afford it, don't disgust other people who actually have the real product by getting fake stuff. You don't have to have it. but if you do, don't shame yourself by buying fake stuff. There is no shame in not having nice clothing like Gucci or LV, but, there is when it's fake.
and i'm just out here, loving thrift shops.
Thrift shops always have anything that suits to me also i love thrift store because their cloth is plain, no large logos on t-shirt also i find so many good sweaters at thrift store

I wonder how many of these Gucci millenials save for their retirement and live independently
Personally, overy extravagant clothing is just such a turn off for me.
#dontfollowthetrend
Idk
I would rather buy Gucci stock than it's product
Isn’t Gucci is for try too hard tasteless pretenders? Because some people have a bit of money but they don’t do enough research to buy better brands... let’s face it, Gucci is not that expensive after all... I don’t consider any brands that you can buy from premium outlets luxury

is it just me or is the nyu professor LOVES Gucci too.. making her input biased..
nah luxury brands should stick to what they do, that's why they're called luxury because they make you spend smart..
I use to love GUCCI back in the late 1980's and 1990's. Now it's just common for young rich kids who have no idea what the brand used to be about.
Thank you!
