I love them all. Such a great surprise and relief to see some new coins! Although I did for a moment think the £1 coin had flies on it. They should have used the bumblebee in my opinion!
Thanks for the video. Didn't notice before that the year was on the outside of the Pound coin. I think they should have kept the Britannia, maybe with a tweak to insert the cipher. They could have put a Pike on the 50p to avoid the connection to the old Irish coin. At the moment I think the Red Squirrel has to be to the favourite. BTW Capercaille is a good Scottish band as well.
Hi Paul, I commented to LFTA video, yesterday about the old George V 6d & 3d coins designed by Kruger Gray having 3 & 6 acorns each and it would have been better for continuity to have had 5 acorns on the 5p. So I'm glad other people feel the same. As for Percy Metcalf's salmon on the Irish 2/- and 10p I do like his designs (especially the rocking horse Crown) I think the new Salmon design is more stylised perhaps? My favourite is the 5p with the acorns. Can anyone tell me why the designers initials are not on the coins?
Hi Andy, the bees are lot's of people's favourite design, it is a nice one. I think the fish is going to be everyone's least favourite. It looks to cartoony. 👍
Wow, I do hope that these go into circulation soon. I love the bee design they look like buff tail bees not a fan of the fish but they all do look better than what we currently have .
I love them....mostly anyway. I'm with you on the fish 🤷♀. My fav is the Dormouse. Changes I'd make 🤔. More definition on the Squirrel, Puffins wings down, leaping Salmon (?) it sounds better now. That's it for me I'm happy 😎🍀💜
5p oak leaves and acorns reminds me of the 1930s three pence and sixpence. Fitting coin for that design. I don't like the 50p design too much neither, it looks too cartoonish.
Hi Dave, lot's people are saying the fish is their least favourite. The old threepence had three acorns and the sixpence had six acorns in the design. The new 5p has three acorns. It would have made more sense for it to have five.
I happen to love coins with fish on them. I really don't know why but I'm always happy to see a new one. Thanks for the excellent run-through, Paul, and rest assured that I'm happy to take on the job of liking the salmon if you don't. 🙂
Your comments Paul about a £5 coin is something I agree on too. Switzerland has a lovely large 5fr coin (Call me old fashioned but all of their coins beat ours by a country mile imo) and it doesn’t seem to be a problem for them. The small scrunched up plastic £5 note is just ugly, and I’m sure getting rid of Churchill will please a lot of people nowadays 👀
Great set with an important theme. I love fish 🐠 and bees 🐝 on coins the most. I heard they weren’t going to have any fish, but last minute they added it just for the halibut. 😅
I do like all the designs but the £1 coin with the bees is my favourite . It's hard to tell though until you physically see the coins. I've never seen a red squirrel 🐿️ in the wild either.
Martin Jennings Paul, not Jackson, However a great review, & I agree with all your findings, The Red Squirrel is a beauty & we so will miss the Britannia that never had the chance to get amongst common circulation to replace the technologies.
I didn't know they were changing the designs until The Royal Mint emailed me a couple of days ago so I was surprised. I think they're great designs though
I am from Northern Ireland when i was younger we used to go on day trips across the border into the Republic of Ireland, and this was in the old pre euro days i would bring back the old irish punt in change and then the UK 50p and the Irish 50p were the same size so after school swimming lessons we would put the Irish 50p into the vending machines and buy a coke with them and back then the exchange rate for the Irish punt against the UK pound was bad so we were ripping off the coke machines LOL
The capercaillie coin shows heather shoots (with flowers). The capercaillie eats the younger heather shoots as a main part of its diet. It’s nice to see that after eons of dominance on uk coins by the rose, over the thistle, the symbol of Scotland at last takes prescience.
Instead of the Salmon they could've used the Beaver as a purposely reintroduced species. They could've also gone for seals, dolphins, porpoises, or whales.
My exact first reaction aswell - it looks like toy money. No pomp or history, very disappointed. Also, am I the only one that thinks that the mouses tail on the penny is poorly illustrated and makes it hard at first glance to decipher what I am looking at? Poor effort.
I'm very pleasantly surprised with the new designs Mind you anything would be an improvement on the shield definitives 😂 Agree re the Salmon - not very inspiring and too similar to others from elsewhere I really like the Capercaillie Great review
Good to see the end of the shield fragment coins!!! They were a joke & should never have been chosen as the winning entry. The old 5 pence was off centre & the 20 pence with just the lion's backside was a waste of potential space on the coin.
Just don't like them. If they'd done something like the farthing, with the bird in the middle and the denomination and year on the top and the bottom, that'd've been so much better. These just look like toy money with the big numbers and letters. Also, why *all* animals? Unlike some small, obscure countries, we've so much history to be proud of to put on our money beyond our wildlife. No heraldry, coats of arms, Tudor roses, Prince of Wales feathers, Britannias or portcullises? Just such a wasted opportunity. They look too "flashy", too "modern" for coins which need to tie in with some centuries-old designs.
I agree with you on the like toy money with the big numbers and letters. I don't like the left side of the coins. I was disappointed about Britannia. I was sure they would keep her on The £2 coin
Very reminiscent of the original Irish coins; featuring wildlife. I think there's too much empty space on the £1 design. Anything is an improvement on the current design, though
Nice Video again . I love these designs, like you I think the Fish is not so good as the rest. A robin might have been a good alternative. I'm also sad to see the Britannia £2 disappear. It's my favorite of all of the current coins in circulation. Anything to get rid of the shield coins. Bloody horrible in my view.
I like the bees and the fish. A £5 coin with Britannia would be great, but I have noticed over the years that Britannia is getting more butch, so let's have one with more feminine features.
The new designs are better than the 2008 shield designs but the heavy animal theme looks cartoonish and childish, and doesn’t really portray our rich history and national identity. My favourite is the 5p with oak leaves reminiscent of the old sixpences and threepences. No heraldry, national emblems, nor Charles’ actual royal cypher. The replacement of the gorgeous cruciform shields of the Queen Memorial 50p with a gurt big fish is a disaster! Looks like we’ve just copied Croatia’s old kuna since they got rid of them for the Euro
Bit late in the day, but perhaps the 2p will come to be known as a Tufty ! 😂 Designs on 1p and 10p would of been better swapped, like you say a what ! Yep with you on the 50p as well. Yes Britannia would of been best. But we live in a multicultural society and we can't have anything that celebrates Britain's history now can we !?
Considering the nature of this channel, this announcement must have been like Christmas 😅 I'm honestly not sure if I like these coins or not. Maybe I'll like them more in person
It doesn’t make much sense to have no Britannia given how long she’s been on coin it would be as if. No American coin had our eagle and seal love British coins USA collecter
i don't like them, the 1968-2008 coins and the old £1 coin designs were the best ones, they had something that's part of british culture and all that, meanwhile these ones are just animals, sure they could add 1 or 2 animals on there, but why on all? it couldve brought back the old florin design, or the old shilling, or any of them for that matter.
what a load of moaning minnies, they look modern and great I love the design and it will help the youngsters and people who visit the country to identify each coin and use them. We are not stuck in years gone by and whilst we have a great heritage lets embrace the future.......
These are awful. There is nothing on the tail side that shows anything distinctively British at all. These are the muzak of coins - bland and undistinctive.
I love them all. Such a great surprise and relief to see some new coins! Although I did for a moment think the £1 coin had flies on it. They should have used the bumblebee in my opinion!
Yes, from a distance they do look like flies 🪰
Great set though 👍
Such a massive upgrade to what is being minted now! Can't wait to add them to my collection!
Yes, I like them. I hope it's not too long before they go into circulation 👍
Yes, it's a shame Britannia ha to go. Good idea about the pike, but is it an endangered species?
Very nice new set of coins , looking forward to seeing them .
Deffinetly better design than the current "shield." Most of them are great. Love from Czechia.
Hi Paul,
I commented to LFTA video, yesterday about the old George V 6d & 3d coins designed by Kruger Gray having 3 & 6 acorns each and it would have been better for continuity to have had 5 acorns on the 5p. I like the new designs.
The Bees 🐝🐝 is probably my favourite, not decided what my least favourite is.
Great stuff 👍🏻
Hi Andy, the bees are lot's of people's favourite design, it is a nice one. I think the fish is going to be everyone's least favourite. It looks to cartoony. 👍
The flower on the 10p is a variety of Heather.
Wow, I do hope that these go into circulation soon. I love the bee design they look like buff tail bees not a fan of the fish but they all do look better than what we currently have .
About time for the royal mint to have some well designed and clear minting.
Yes, they're much better than the shield design 👍
We've gone soft!
The fast asleep dormouse was probably inspired by the state of the UK economy!
Very nice set indeed, and according to Change Checker going into circulation this year! Thanks CP
We might see them around Easter then Darren
We have red squirrels on the Isle of Wight. Seems to have been a good year for them here. Personally seen about half a dozen this year.
Love these new designs ❤ ordered mine yesterday 😊
Hopefully you will get them before Easter Suzanne
@@CoinPatrol 😂😂😂
The flowers on the Capercaillie is Bell heather.
I like all the coins, however, I wish they would not let the £1 and £2 coins have the two-tone colour scheme, it makes them look a bit like Euros.
Agreed. A large brass/Nordic gold or a large silver coloured coin looks much nicer than bimetallic coins.
5p oak leaves and acorns reminds me of the 1930s three pence and sixpence. Fitting coin for that design. I don't like the 50p design too much neither, it looks too cartoonish.

@@CoinPatrol yes would make more sense, coincidental they chose the 5p for that design then.
The honey bees are my favourite out of the eight, but all are great designs. Due for circulation at end of the year by all accounts.
Lots of people are saying the bees are their favourite design. I wonder if they will all go into circulation?
I happen to love coins with fish on them. I really don't know why but I'm always happy to see a new one. Thanks for the excellent run-through, Paul, and rest assured that I'm happy to take on the job of liking the salmon if you don't. 🙂
I like eating salmon Andrew 🐟
Your comments Paul about a £5 coin is something I agree on too.

they just released churchill coins, which im happy for
I think they are brilliant, the Dormouse & Squirrel my favourite’s. Hope they do do into circulation👌👍
Let's hope so Snappy. 👍
Great set with an important theme. I love fish 🐠 and bees 🐝 on coins the most. I heard they weren’t going to have any fish, but last minute they added it just for the halibut. 😅
I think that joke floundered a bit at the end 🐟🐟🐟
It's a great looking set. My fav is the Cappa...... the 10 pence.
I believe I have the reverse coin 1922 the numbers 1919 1918 with : COLON AND DOT
The plants on the ten pence are Heather leaves and flowers.
So Beautiful coins.🇵🇭
I do like all the designs but the £1 coin with the bees is my favourite . It's hard to tell though until you physically see the coins. I've never seen a red squirrel 🐿️ in the wild either.
Hi Jude, Yes the bees are a lot of folks favourire. It's a great design. 🐝
Awesome!
When do these come into circulation?
We sould be seeing them ny the end of the year.
At last....a new lease of life for UK coin collectors 😊

I don't know why I put Jackson!! I've eddited that couple of seconds out now. Cheers Ian. Yes, it's a shame about Britannia.
I didn't know they were changing the designs until The Royal Mint emailed me a couple of days ago so I was surprised. I think they're great designs though
Hi Andy, yes they are good. I'm really pleased the shield design is being replaced - at last!

Should say precedence. It was a Google replacement, which shows that Google canna spell …
Very nice set
Have to go with the bees as my favorite 👍
a nice set but i do think the salmon looks more like a trout 🤘
Instead of the Salmon they could've used the Beaver as a purposely reintroduced species. They could've also gone for seals, dolphins, porpoises, or whales.

Hi Richard. Yes, I'm really pleased The Shield is being replaced - at last!!
8:16 Coin designers initials?
Those initials are for the portrait on the heads side Kyle. It's MJ for Martin Jennings. There are no initials for the designs on the tails side.

I like the new pound
Yes, the bees are a great design 👍

Not as good as the pre 2008 designs but much better than the shield coins. I like them.

I’ve had a Couple of new 50ps which don’t have a fish on but have the kings head on are they fakes does anyone know?
Might be commemorative. I have one that does not have this new design. Could be collectable.
The fish is OK. I agree that Britannia should be retained as it has been for 2000 years.
I thought cashless payment was the future
where is the 20 pound coin
£20 coins are commemorative. These are definitive.
Looks like Scottish heather (ling) sprigs on the ten pence coin.
