Thank you for watching! If you have any questions regarding the subjects in this video, please DO NOT email me directly. Instead, leave your question in the comments below so that I can collate all the queries in one place and also see if your question is liked by others to make a shortlist of the most common questions for a Part 2 video. I made this episode in response to the hundreds of emails I get every week about the challenging visa process. I know how frustrating this whole experience can be but it's worth it in the end, so don't give up!! I found this very interesting to watch and thank you so much for putting this on RUclips, I am looking to buy a house in Italy or France soon and it has made me aware there is a lot to sort before hand. I hope to retire out there one day but as we are now out of the EU in the UK it will only entitle me to stay 90 days in 180 days . My partner is of French descendent found out via his father who did a family tree and so now he may be able to obtain residency in France if they will allow or do you know if this is something only allowed in Italy? I would be grateful for your advise. Love watching all you video's Angela xx

Kylie, Grazie per queso video. All of my grandparents were born in Italy but in areas where I have not visited. I looked into becoming a citizen, but came to the conclusion I did not qualify. This video gave me hope I could be wrong. IF you do a Part 2 I would appreciate advice as to how to proceed and even an estimate of cost.

I really admire how well you help people dream but also give them the reality of that dream Kylie. It's a hard balance to strike! As an American who lived in Italy I hope people understand just how difficult it is to do this and I get frustrated when it's presented by other creators as that they're "living the dream" and everything is perfect... They don't show the tears, frustration, thousands and thousands of dollars/pounds spent, etc just to be able to get there... And then it all starts over again when you try to rent a property, send mail abroad, renew your permesso etc. Loved this interview, really well done ❤️

Thank you Kylie for this video! As an American who is looking to move to Florence later this year it was very informative. The 1st part of the video regarding the Student Visas was the best for me. It confirmed for me that I am doing and following the correct steps to obtain a Student Visa. When doing all the research by yourself and watching videos, reading articles, etc. you "believe" that you are doing the right things. But now I KNOW that I am correctly following the steps and know what I need to obtain my Student Visa later this year. My school (Parola in Florence) is accepted by the government and I can work up to 20 hours per week. So, again grazie for another GREAT video and one that affected me personally! ❤🇮🇹 Paul

Wow thank you kylie for this video, this is exactly what i am going through right now!! .I am english and have been living in tuscany for 8 years. I have tried many times to get my Visa over that time for various reasons! I am now married to an Italian with a baby. I was trying to get my residency again at the end of last year before Brexit went through but was denied because I changed my surname to my italian husband's. Changing your surname in italy is highly unusual in Italy so I had to get a statuary declaration from a change of deed firm. It then needed an appostile from the uk government and then a certified translation. I am going through this now so hopefully this is the last hoop I have to go through before re-applying with the questura. My story may help some of your viewers as I had no idea how to obtain this info before going though the process as there was no information online and even my italian lawyers didn't know what to do. I hope this could help someone that wants to move here and has changed their name! Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! Xx

Excellent person to interview and you are the best of help to those who need all this very important info. In my case, I must admit, sometimes ignorance is a bliss. An italian came to my country, fell in love, invited me to visit Italy by he himself returning back in person to my country again after we met, so as to take me around Italy, which he did. Got married not long after and stayed for many years without any problem whatsoever even though I wasn't into getting a citizenship at all. But all just came and fell into my lap. Italian perfettura even sent me a letter asking why I never asked for Italian citizenship. So, everything was just so easy and smooth for me. I am so blessed! Now living back in my beautiful country, Indonesia, it's nice to look at Italy from the outside and grateful to have lived there for decades! It was something that I never chased, wanted, searched for, it all just came. Well, good luck to those who need to know this very valuable info. Great job, Kylie!! This was so helpful, thank you! And really interesting to learn about the different options - I had no idea there was the option to apply for a visa that isn't for working, providing you've got enough money saved / coming in from passive sources.
Also very interesting to learn that the Italian heritage can now come through the female side as well; I had been told it was only paternal, but if it's maternal as well then that's something I could look into. (My mum's side of the family has Italian heritage; think it's my great-grandfather that was Italian).
So this was all incredibly helpful & fascinating, thank you so much!

Kylie, this is a fantastic film! All of yours are, but this was an extra excellent topic, so well received, so needed! And so appreciated! And I LOVE that the restrictions insist that the landscape is cohesive, it's beautiful for that reason! The movie, Under a Tuscan Sun, showed Francis having a wall torn out...with "Normale" stated in all transactions in her purchase - seemingly so easy... Not so much, I guess, and not so Hollywood-ized. Thank goodness for that!

Hi Kylie. Your videos are always beautifully filmed and wonderfully engrossing; this episode is no exception. Anyone who is contemplating a move to Italy to retire for example would do well to watch this.
My wife and I have settled in Lucca this padt September from Canada after many years of dreaming and more importantly, planning our move. It seems daunting at first and to be sure there are a lot of moving pieces in play as well as details that seem to be... well... backwards. But as you’ve skillfully pointed out the rewards for running the consulate’s gauntlet and bearing with the immigration bureaucracy are worth it in the end. We are so happy to have made the move and are now just waiting for our Permessi di Sogiorno. I would add that even though the pandemic is a horrible and tiring affair it has afforded us the additional “free time” to immerse ourselves in language lessons with our teacher. Thank you for your wonderful channel ❤️

I am Greek-Canadian...I've also lived in Rome a while back. I know all these legal issues you are discussing. It really was challenging for me to stay for more than a year, even though I loved Italy. Student visas are still required. There has been no change in the law there. The change relates to the need to apply for the permit to stay (permesso di soggiorno), which is no longer required if the student is present for less than 150 days (it used to be fewer).
