Above any other message love is the most important. I feel that from both David Belle and Tim Shieff in this interview. Parkour should be a cause that brings people closer together in diversity, not separate us. Thanks for providing us this opportunity to tune into an inspiring message.
TRURER WORDS WERE NEVER SPOKEN...it's sad that all around the world ther's still so many people who don't know this and still do bullshits on cameras just to selfcelebrate theyrselves on socials ande give tons of lack of respect to each other just beacuse someone else have a different way of thinking about training or what parkour is or isn't and shits like these there's a lot of disinformation...Today, especially the founders promote an elitist practice, where if you are already "approved" by someone inside the ADD academy familiy, you are in, if you have your personal thinking and methods and if you don't think that all of what yamakasi say is gold, you are out. They are afraid of diversity , except the one that has already been approved previously. They are creating a community outside the community dissociating themselves from all those who do not think like them.
Thanks for the interview, very inspiring. The final part about ego is most important. Not only for parkour, for every sport, business or other activities in the world. Made my day.
I had to stop my training almost two years ago due to a knee injury after 10 or so years of Parkour, I figured it was time to move on and focus on other goals etc. That being said I've not felt disconnected from Parkour just because I've simply stopped moving, i've always felt connected weather it be through dance or swimming and have always found that the concept, the well being and mentality has been the same but perhaps when the time is right I'll train again one day. I listen to these words and honestly Tim, i think you've done the community proud speaking to David and putting a lot of misconceptions and rumours to rest. Very inspiring and reassuring.
I hope you don't mind me asking. But how did your injury occur while training? I too had a knee injury but after time was able to continue training. So if you don't mind I just would like to know how yours happened.
***** guess what? You and I had the same injury. I tore my lcl lateral collateral ligament or meniscus if you will doing Parkour. I had to get an athroscopy done. A year almost two later im back training. Sometimes it gets swollen but it depends on the drops I take and how much shock my knee absorbs. But I have different shoes I wear to prevent that. Looks lizke we're on the same path. Im actually teaching someone Parkour right now. And I myself hope to become better and stay safe at the same time. I too felt this was and is my passion. Because I have never felt this way about anything else in life. Not even other sports I played. This is what I love and im glad I didnt let it slip away. Dont let parkour slip away from you. Do What yu love. Strengthen your knee the best you can. And just be careful. If you look at the last video I uploaded. That was after surgery. You can do it
This truly got through to me. I was starting to feel demotivated, unhappy with my current ability level because I'm not as good as some friends and I can't do X,Y and Z. But I think I get it now. Thank you David & Tim for this tutorial on life.
It's not about being able to do X,Y and Z. If you know A you're good as long as you are okay with it. Don't compare yourself to your friends, compare yourself to your targets: Learn what YOU want to learn and do it good. Like Belle said:'Ne pas chercher être le meilleur, chercher être meilleur.' Don't try to be the best, try to be better, :)
Tim... thanks for this man !!! I was feeling like I was there when I was watching ! So many good messages and thoughts from David, an interview that everyone will keep in his heart for a very long time !!
Beautiful. Glad to see Tim and David talking heart to heart. This and the interview with Foucan I will have to watch atleast 10 times to soak it all in. Also I'm preety sure the reason Tim talked on his own philosophy is because as a practitioner of Parkour he wants to see what the founder thinks of it and if they work well together.
Precisely. Training parkour and doing it for a career in many ways I have followed davids footsteps and feel a certain way about things I wanted to clarify that he came to the same conclusions I came to and what his deeper thoughts on them were. I.E. doing it professionally for pay and being filmed taking the soul away from why we all did it in the first place.
Thank you guys for mentioning us , tehran girl freerunners ! It`s a honor for us that the founder of Parkour and the great Tim shieff talking about us ! Thanks !
***** He's an older guy who lives in france, a free spirit so to speak. some people find him eccentric, and the likes of erwan le corre (founder of movnat) have also trained with him. They would do things like scale buildings late at night or jump from high bridges into freezing water in pitch darkness, and crawl through silently through the sewers, honing their skill base.
Tim, you made me teary eyed because of this inspirational interview. Thank you very much, Livewire. Without him, freerunning and parkour would never exist.
To me this is more than just an interview about parkour, so many Lessons to be learned here, i was getting frustrated with myself very often because my jumps aren't as good as my friends or i couldn't do something but now im going to start focusing on my strengths and have fun learning things i find it hard to do, thank you so much tim.
Wow. We finally get to hear from the thoughts and perspective of the father of Parkour, David Belle. Everything he talks about in here are things that I have discovered within the past 2 years. If you want to know how us expert 'urban ninjas' feel about what we do, here's a good video to watch. Be positive, don't listen to any negative criticism given to you, press forward in your own movement, and don't let anyone make you think that what you're calling Parkour isn't because you added acrobatics and style in it. It's what you make out of it that counts.
I was born in Morges, and Lausanne is where I used to live when I lived in Switzerland. I used to go to that lake with my father fishing. David is the reason I started pk. I can´t describe how epic this is for me. wow, good memories and inspiration. All at the same time. Just amazing. Thank you so much Tim.
I am a traceur but as a human being i want to say thank you David and thank you to his father and to all the people that do Parkour. Thank you for the words and for the time. Thank you !
That was wonderful and well spoken. 'tis a good thing that he has decided to speak after so long. His views and ideas will always be held in high esteem.
His words are already seen in a lot of traceurs from the whole parkour community , traceurs who thought this way before they even knew D.belle like myself and i think its amazing and made me belive that the body mind and soul can be connected in a great peaceful way just by this "parkour" we all call, train and desire :) Thank you Tim and Thank you David for making this Interview!
Tim im just so shocked my two most favorite idols together speaking about what is my life.oh and congratulations to belle for learning english and congrats to u for learning french you both have a lot ahead for u
This video is a true inspiration to me , I love how david says that the true meaning of parkour is personal. For me it's doing things i thought i wasn't capable off ,respect and comunity (friends) Tim Shieff did a good job with this interview and i want to thank him for that . Tumbs up from The Netherlands!
David and Sebastien are in such a state of harmony with themselves through parkour. I hope we can all find this harmony that they are living in and live by it ourselves.
Two people I deeply respect, talking about subjects that deeply touch me, with content that resonates deep within. Thank you for this possibility and these insights! :)
I had to stop this interview in half just to say that i'm really happy and thankful that david joint this interview and gave so beautiful and clear answers. Thank you storm freerun and tim shieff for making this available for everyone with internet. This is the positive side of internet, that i love. You guys are doing great stuff, i hope you feel that. Thank you!
This video was put out three years ago, two years before I started my training. I'm glad I found it now. So many things in this video to apply to my training, and my mindset moving forward.
So awesome! Tim what a blessing you've received for following your dream - and from your hard work homie. Ps dope that you asked his thoughts on being vegetarian. Why not hear another perspective? Every aspect of this was fresh from filming to feel to content. substance over hype bro :)
Ive always felt that Parkour was a tool that helped promote peace between not only people, but people with nature, and its a very beautiful and powerful thing, and it makes me happy to see that a lot of us, carry that feeling, and that that is what Parkour is essentially all about; peace, happiness, freedom. This interview was amazing and inspirational. Thank you, all.
Thank you Tim for doing this interview with David. I never thought that david belle is such a humble man. This interview really opened my eyes and showed me how manipulative media and films can be. I am so glad to see an interview with david speaking right from the bottom of his heart. Thank you agian and keep on doing what you do and follow your heart! Love from Switzerland
When I go outside, and I see a spot that might be good for parkour, I cannot resist the urge to go play on it. And sometimes I think: "How can someone not like parkour?" Because it is kind of hard to understand how someone can not like something you love so much and something that makes you feel so good.
This guy was heartbroken when parkour became a parody of it self and about flips and tricks, so he retreated. He deserves so much praise. Hollywood has so much to thank him for.
Awesome interview! You guys are both role models of mine, I really appreciate this interview and everything you guys discussed, I'll probably see parkour in a whole new way thanks to this video!
I love what David has done for Parkour but even more so is his view on the world, that if you're progressing in life because of compassion, respect and understanding is a good mindset. It's the way I have been raised and the world needs more people like David and Tim. Thank you for this video it has a strong message for parkour and life in general. Much love.
Thanks Tim for conducting such a great interview with David Belle. I've always wanted to meet this guy. He is a great inspiration every time I go train. Merci beaucoup encore.
It's like a veil had been lifted right before my very eyes, and what I can finally see now is exactly what I always had hoped to see after all this time. Thanks for the video.
I've always doubted my self ever since I've started this sport. I started because I loved the idea of progression, and becoming one with yourself, with the movement and what you can achieve. I've been around my friends who are far superior to me, but I am blessed that they help me out when needed. But this video has definitely opened my eyes a lot more, and now i've become a lot more aware. It's inspired more than anything, and I will continue to push and push to get to my own goals, and not no one else's. I will be where I want to be one day and to make my own decisions which will benefit me in general, and once again, this video has helped me see that. I want to be able to thank you David and Tim for this interview if you see this, and I loved everything about it. I will watch it continuously and thank you for everything for the development and formation of this amazing community. Thank you :)
This vid interview deserves far more views... Truly fascinating and interesting for so many applications. Good luck in your journey to maximize always .
Thank you for this interview Tim. I appreciate you reaching out and making this connection with David. You two are inspiring in my life and I am happy to have parkour apart of my daily life, whether actively training or just living day to day. Parkour has changed my life and I am grateful for all the improvements it has brought my spirit. I (and I am sure many others) need reminders like this video from time to time to remember who we are and what we are doing here. To remain connected to something greater. So again, thank you. Cheers!
Always will have great respect for David as a philosopher as well as an athlete. He certainly has been a hero of mine since I was 9 and first heard about Parkour, then my mom made me research how to do it without hurting myself. I'm 24 now and what he's saying is.. profound to me, because it's what I've ultimately seen Parkour as for a number of years: the Art and Discipline of Flow. So it's fantastique to hear that the founder sees it as being applicable in myriad fashion. It's philosophy, capable of being applied in every branch thereof. It's like Tao. The traceur is like the electron entering a state of probability, virtually traversing every pathway available, then following the most efficient way. Or helium, lighter than air and ever-rising, superfluid even in cryostatic conditions. The alpha particle path: straight, direct. It has many variations, many comparisons, and I think that's the beauty of Art overall: freedom of relation and expression. On avance toujours, et vous?
I feel so much more at ease after hearing this, all the conflict within the community should be a lot less after these words from the man that started it all. Good Interview.
Thank you david belle for you're inspiration...I do parkour since last merch and nobody can't say "ohman stop with that urban climbing and do something better" beacuse parkour is in me! Thank you man! :)
It's amazing how your individual path can bring you to the same conclusion as the other people you never met. At the time, when I was doing parkour about three years, I thought that this comes with the movement automatically. But as the time passed by I realized that what makes you understand other people is not the movement itself, it's your desire to get the answers from yourself, to develop not only your body, but your heart and personality. That's the thing Danny was talking about in Choose not to fall, which I've personally seen maybe 50 times, but I was able to understand it properly when I found truth in myself. Well, enough of essays for today, thank you Tim for this amazing interview, hope one day I can meet with you :)
I love the location you chose Tim, I know you said "timeless" earlier in a reply but it truly does feel that way. A great conversation between two big names in the parkour "scene", but more importantly between two intelligent and spiritual individuals. Taking pause from morning training with the mentor, and deep conversation that can still feel comfortable for both Belle and the audience. A rare treasure to share with the world...
This Is amazing. I love all of his answers and respect the guy. He is genuine and very straightforward. I really hope we get to see something in the future from this amazing sport.
Wow, I'm so glad he mentioned the ego and that it's the cause of negativity. This is the most powerful and crucial thing to learn within our lifes. This is why Parkour is good - it silences the ego, and the mind and body become one. This is the crucial oneness we as humans need to achieve. We need to see beyond our egos to reveal our almighty potential.
This is an Awesome Interview! David Belle is too cool man! I really Like that he has ventured into Video Games with Dying Light because that has made those games even better with his Foresight & Mo-Cap. He is Definitely my Main Inspiration for becoming a Parkour Artist. I Thank You Both for this Interview
This was a great video! David Belle just throws chunks of wisdom into your face. The part about ego was the best bit because Parkour really is about having fun and helping others. Not to bash skaters but far too often I see skateboarders bashing Freerunners. Not only do they bash Freerunners, but they bash other skateboarders as well. It really pains me to see them treat other people this way. I have a friend who used to skate because he had fun doing it, but now he doesn't skate anymore because the Skating community pushed him away and he doesn't like the way most skaters treat others. If I'm doing Parkour and somebody new asks me to help them learn a particular move, I will most definetly help them to the best of my ability. Yet everytime I see people who are new to skating ask other skaters for help, the skaters make fun of him and tell him that "He sucks." How do you expect people to learn when you're not even giving them the chance. You shouldn't be the kind of community where people walk the other way when they see you. You should embrace people. Not push them away. The skaters I know are too focused on trying to be the best that they aren't focused and lose their way. They don't have respect for themselves or others. This is why they fail. In the words of David Belle, "Don't try to be the best. Try to be better." I know I sound like I'm bashing the Skateboarding community, but I'm honestly not. I'm using them as an example based on my own experience. That's all. Nobody should be putting anyone down. If what you're doing is fun and you are enjoying it, continue to do it. Ego is what kills everything. Without ego, you are focused.
A wonderful interview! Impressive statements from an outstanding athlete who, despite his success, has remained humble and at peace with himself. It's touching to see how parkour brings everyone together, no matter what skin color, culture, age or gender etc. We are all one big family! I think parkour is also an interesting metaphor for life, where you constantly have to overcome obstacles and setbacks and deal with strokes of fate. Some obstacles seem insurmountable at first glance, but if you then look at them from all sides and change your perspective, try out different techniques, you recognize different possibilities. Sometimes you just have to take a few steps back and then take a running start. And if you fall, slip, get bloody scratches and bruises, you are reminded that you are not invulnerable and that you must ALWAYS be in the now and ALWAYS be highly concentrated, no matter how often you repeat something and no matter how insignificant it may look. And that you must not let a fall deter you from your goal, but must continue to try courageously, but at the same time with caution and an open mind, step by step, until you reach your goal! And as David so aptly put it, it's not about being the best, it's about getting better, getting the best out of yourself and helping others to become the best version of themselves too!
it feels good to hear that other people also feel these things for parkour. the physical wellbeing is almost like a drug. and that doubt that you have in your mind when looking at a jump, and then learning what you can and can't do it feels like the brain and body is a instrument which is getting finely tuned to each other like a precise machine
David is a true hero of mine not just for his skills but for his foresight and philosophy too. Loved every line of his answers.
Thanks for this Tim!
Are you doing anything around Lausanne?
Incredible interview Tim! Great words from both you and David.
TappBrothers brinng the community together
Great Job Tim. This really brought home, and reminded me why i continue to do parkour. Can't wait to go train!
Above any other message love is the most important. I feel that from both David Belle and Tim Shieff in this interview. Parkour should be a cause that brings people closer together in diversity, not separate us. Thanks for providing us this opportunity to tune into an inspiring message.
Ronnie i'm from algeria and you are my hero i love all of your videos . you inspire us to do parkour in Algeria thnx man a lot :-)
I agree with every word Ronnie. Parkour truly is a magnet that pulls people together. This what I love the most about the Parkour community.
rafik latrach where are you from in algeria? I'm from Ireland but I visit family in algeria each year.
Said it right!

In parkour you only compete with yourself.

I (and I am sure many others) need reminders like this video from time to time to remember who we are and what we are doing here. To remain connected to something greater. So again, thank you.
Cheers!
this is really enlightening. the world needs to see this.
This man cane up with parkour, what an honor to have him explain!! Bravo David !
Such a straight up-humble guy (Sir David Belle) :) We luv your energy. Thank you for your intelligent insights.
What a great interview Tim! Good to see the two of you having a good, heart to heart and also interesting chat!
Very insightful
To be strong is to be useful I've lived that all my life thank you Tim and David for your time
I feel so much more at ease after hearing this, all the conflict within the community should be a lot less after these words from the man that started it all. Good Interview.
Amazing interview Tim, you asked every question that i've wanted to ask David so thanks for doing this! The man is an inspiration.
True idol, with a beautiful perspective on life, won't forgot the words spoken during this video.

I'm a martial arts and i took very good insights in this video. Thank You David and Tim
Amazing interview! So great to hear David speak of parkour as a way to better yourself and not to be the best.

Much respect for you both !
thank you for this interview !
David Belle is probably my favorite motivational person ever. I mean, he founded the only "sport" i'll ever like.
Thanks Tim for sharing your earnings with the world!!! Peace.
Thank you tim for your Your transparency and your deep spirit
David and his incredible philosophy and the best to you thanks Tim're the best
Amazing! Thank you so much storm!
Very welcome Andrew
Very good and clever words, thank you!
nice interview. glad to hear something new from his corner.
it feels good to hear that other people also feel these things for parkour. the physical wellbeing is almost like a drug. and that doubt that you have in your mind when looking at a jump, and then learning what you can and can't do it feels like the brain and body is a instrument which is getting finely tuned to each other like a precise machine
Superb! Thanks to Tim and David for this :D
Gracias Tim y a todo tu equipo por lograr esto. Saludos desde Chile!!
Best one yet!
