new comment after watching this again for a fully new rebuild of my entire xcom 2 game the missing mods thing can sometimes be tired to the order of the mods i noticed this when using a few of my mods on my old computer if they loaded in the wrong order then the launcher would not work out they were there until after it launched the first time after that first launch it should auto fix the load order if it does not you can set it up by hand by enabling the tab load order and not letting the launcher auto sort them this can fix almost any of the little bugs related to mods not seeming to pick up their required files even if they are installed
Good feedback! This now dated install guide was only meant for the base/minimum necessary loadout for the mod. You make a nice point for adding additional mods and how mod loading order can sometimes make a difference.

Installed the AML, which opens up with no mods at all, and the following message. No mods available, or no mod is matching the current filter. Check the mod folder configuration if AML is not detecting any mods at all. - Well the last sentence seems to be relevant to my situation. Trouble is I have no idea what or where a mod folder configuration might be. I know enough about windows to know you have to follow a file path to find a folder. I don't know the relevant file path. I checked the XCOM 2 workshop and all my mods were ticked. So there should be folder some where in Bootcamp that will let me load them into the AML. I did click on War Of The Chosen in the AML and rhe game loaded fine, just without mods. Weirdlly I checked the character pool, and non of my current soldiers were listed, but I had whole bunch of soldiers I had deleted years ago instead, very strange.

The good news is they're working very hard to get the Steam Workshop release ready. Things will be infinitely easier once that happens. Then the most difficult thing will be figuring out mod conflicts. In the meantime, hope this video helps.
Sounds like a pathing issue. Check that you have downloaded to the proper locations. I don't have a ton of time at the moment to ask you a bunch more questions to try and narrow this one down. I installed Dev Build 27.3 (Complete package) from the nexus and this pack of necessary mods and it works, but when subscribing to any mod from steam, the game crash after the initial pictures. What should I do?
If everything is working after the basic download and then when trying to add other mods from the steam workshop causes problems, I will direct you to the LWOTC discord channel. I would ask for help under "troubleshooting" there. The discord link should be in the video description. My only question...are you using the AML to launch the mod? and not launching directly from steam? If that's all ok, ask your question in the discord because they will have much more knowledge about any potential mod conflicts.

When you ended the game the first time, did you also close the alternate mod launcher? Sometimes you have to close the game all the way, including the AML. Then when you open it back up you see the correct button to click. If you are still having issues, I highly recommend checking out the LWOTC Discord page linked in the description and ask your question in the "troubleshooting" tab. I've seen some great info given there.

Question I'm down to adding the mods so can start the game but indnt have the long war of the chosen mod to select I have the other five but missing that one what do I do
My first thought is that you maybe don't have the correct pathing chosen for the AML, so it's not finding the mod. Or if you have the correct pathing, perhaps you accidentally downloaded the mod to the incorrect folder during the install. I would check those two issues first.
@@ZigZagZog since this is my 1st time doin something lk this I created a steam folder under the C drive and put it under that thn added thn other folders inside of tht one lk the steam apps folder and stuff

Thanks for the video, very useful 👍👍 one question, I’m having problems with promoting my troops: after completing 3 missions I can only manage to promote 2 or 3 soldiers (Leyend difficulty, while I see other people playing and having rookies promoted on every single mission) and I read somewhere than it might be that the game was using the old Community Highlander mod (I went to check Steam, and it is marked as subscribed, even though the first thing I did was make sure I wasn’t subscribe before proceeding with the installation of LWOTC); do you know if it should show it as subscribed on Steam after installation? Should I unsubscribe from it again? Or is it normal than it appear as subscribed after i downloaded the zip and followed all the instructions? Thanks a lot!!!
It should NOT show as subscribed in your workshop. It does not show as subscribed in my workshop. Not sure what would have caused it to show subscribed if you physically unsubscribed. Maybe you just unchecked it in your steam modlist and didn't go into the workshop to hit the unsubscribe button? Not sure how it would happen, but it did. That is probably the cause of your issues.
ZigZagZog Plays Alien Strategy hello, thanks for the reply and for checking that it shouldn’t be on (subscribed); I unsubscribed; started a new campaign and now everything is going smoothly (all promotions are coming when they are supposed to) thanks!

Not sure if there is a way for the mod to properly work without Steam, since I only know the Steam way. But to make sure, I would ask this question on the LWOTC Discord page. The link should be in the video description. The makers of the mod would be able to give you the definitive answer.
@@ZigZagZog Thank you for your help. Just an update don't know if it helps, I tried downloading the mods separately from steamworkshopdownloader.io and then adding them to the mods folder before opening the game using an other mod launcher not the alternative one (Since I can't use it anyway because it requires steam) and it still wouldn't work. I can link some pictures if it would help.
Beyond using the Steam method, I just don't know. And recording doesn't leave me a TON of time to try and figure this out. I still recommend checking the LWOTC Discord.
I can't think of a way. You can download the mod ok with the required highlander. But you would need a way to access the 4 other required mods from the steam workshop. Is there a way to get your physical game linked to steam? Added to the library there? Don't know if that's even possible.
After usual install process try manually adding the 4-6 required mods into the relevant file (It might be an .ini file) Inside you will see Active Mods="mod name here"; Just copy & paste the mods identifying title names here And make sure they're inside the quotation marks
Copy the actual file name without that .xcommod shit For example, the Long war of the chosen mod itself; Use LongWarOfTheChosen (Without spaces) So that's; ActiveMods="LongWarOfTheChosen" (Not ActiveMods="Long War Of The Chosen") Don't copy the names from inside the file But rather the name OF the file itself (Without the . extension shit) You'll notice the difference; The robojumperSquadSelect is actually robojumperSquadSelect_WoTC (Or something like that)
@@ZigZagZog heck ya!! i thought it was never going to happen!! and then i forgot about it.. Until yesterday, and then i downloaded the old Long War 2 mod, but then saw that some people were playing that mod with WOTC mods, which i thought was all messed up, cuz usually you have to use legacy mods of Xcom 2, before War of the Chosen, and then i followed the rabbit hole to here.. lol So yea im fucking stoked! hahahaha
I haven't experienced the game freezing like that. All I can suggest is rebooting the PC and trying again. If you've already done that, I would suggest going to the mod Discord page and asking a question in the #troubleshooting section. They are usually very good at coming up with suggestions there. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer.
I do have this as something I want to do, but I'm holding off until I decide if my current LWOTC playthrough will continue (it's with an older pre-steam build) or if I will start a new one with the newest Steam version. I'll be putting this up for a vote on my channel in the near future, and that answer to that poll will determine how soon I will make an updated version of this installation video. So in a nutshell, yes I will make an update, but no, I don't know exactly when...at least not yet.
@@ZigZagZog yea man, i saw that, this is great! thanks again for your instructional install videos, it gets a little more involved than just dropping one file into your "data" folder like most modded games lol.. So just as an update to anyone watching this video, as of now the newest download is "1.0 Beta 4.1" .. Totally ready to come back to this, and check out some more of your vids.. take care man
Thanks for the update on the newest Beta. I also hear that they are just waiting on a Highlander update to be completed before they make the mod available on the Steam Workshop.
I've never done a "MODS" video for LWOTC, but I do include a list in the comments section of my actual playthroughs of what mods I'm using for the playthrough.
First reply disappeared on my end, so I'll try again, just in case. First off thanks for the comment! You can find my current mod list in my season 2 playthrough. Any episode description should have the link. Season 2 link is in THIS video's description. Thanks again!
Sorry about that. I've now updated the reddit link to the newest build 1.0 beta 4. Install instructions should remain the same, just a newer build. Thanks for the heads up!
I'm not familiar with the non-steam versions. I might recommend asking in the LWOTC Discord. Lot's of knowledge there. I think the link should be in the video description. If not, let me know, and I'll reply with the link.
Actually, this mod had been in development for a while, and the developers have been kind enough to let us play the mod during this time. Hence, the somewhat laborious steps to install. The good news is that it is in the final steps of being readied for the Steam Workshop. All that remains is waiting on some Highlander updates. No ETA for that completion. 😢 So, if this process is not to your liking, you will just have to be patient until it becomes available on the Steam Workshop.
First of all, I wouldn't judge the mod based on the length of my video. I chose to make a 30 minute video for the viewer who may have never installed a mod before. So I go into more detail than someone like yourself might need. Second of all, the LWOTC developers have not put this mod onto Steam YET, because it required so much development and balancing from the original Long War 2. They will put it on Steam (and they are very close to this, per their Discord) once the main developing, balancing, and testing is done. They are not far away from the Steam Workshop release. Hope this helps to answer your concerns.
Thanks for clarifying. Read up on some reddit post as to why it isn't currently on the workshop yet and realized I shouldn't have judged so quickly. Just got a bit intimidated by the video length, but now that I'm crashing on step 7 I'll be sure to give it a watch. Much love to the people that spend their sleepless nights devoted to this mod!
Have fun with the mod! It's already changed a ton from my current playthrough. Part of me wants to start over again with the new changes. But I'll wait...for now.
LoL It's made for a beginner mod installer. Obviously not for someone like you. :-) And BTW, it's available via the Steam Workshop now. So This video is no longer required, except for those who prefer this method.
It was made for a true beginner. Probably more detail than necessary for someone with a little knowledge. But this video was made before the Steam release, so it’s a much easier process now.
Manual install 👍 Install all files as normal, then add/include them to the Default ModOptions.ini file in Xcom2/LongWarOfTheChosen/xcomgame/config It should look something like this; [Engine.XcomModOptions] ActiveMods="X2WOTCCommunityHighlander" ActiveMods="LongWarOfTheChosen" ActiveMods="BetterSecondWaveSupport" (Etc..) The names of the mods here 🖕 must be the same as the name of the .XcomMod file It can be confusing because the mod "title" mentioned in the .XcomMod file itself Is usually spelt slightly different, or with spaces inbetween the words For example, the robojumperSquadSelect mod (has to be added as) robojumperSquadSelect_Wotc Just go thru 'em all slowly & it should work fine Without those awful third party things like steam

Beyond using the Steam method, I just don't know. And recording doesn't leave me a TON of time to try and figure this out. I still recommend checking the LWOTC Discord.
@@ZigZagZog Alright, will do.
this mod only works with steam?
If I have the game in physical, doesn't it?
I can't think of a way. You can download the mod ok with the required highlander. But you would need a way to access the 4 other required mods from the steam workshop. Is there a way to get your physical game linked to steam? Added to the library there? Don't know if that's even possible.
After usual install process try manually adding the 4-6 required mods into the relevant file
(It might be an .ini file)
Inside you will see
Active Mods="mod name here";
Just copy & paste the mods identifying title names here
And make sure they're inside the quotation marks
Copy the actual file name without that .xcommod shit
For example, the Long war of the chosen mod itself;
Use LongWarOfTheChosen
(Without spaces)
So that's;
ActiveMods="LongWarOfTheChosen"
(Not ActiveMods="Long War Of The Chosen")
Don't copy the names from inside the file
But rather the name OF the file itself
(Without the . extension shit)
You'll notice the difference;
The robojumperSquadSelect is actually robojumperSquadSelect_WoTC
(Or something like that)
so this is different from Long War 2, for Xcom 2???
This is Long War 2 adapted to work for XCOM 2 War Of The Chosen.
@@ZigZagZog wow they finally finished it.. glad i checked !
You sound as excited as I was when I first found the mod was resurrected.
@@ZigZagZog heck ya!! i thought it was never going to happen!! and then i forgot about it.. Until yesterday, and then i downloaded the old Long War 2 mod, but then saw that some people were playing that mod with WOTC mods, which i thought was all messed up, cuz usually you have to use legacy mods of Xcom 2, before War of the Chosen, and then i followed the rabbit hole to here.. lol So yea im fucking stoked! hahahaha
hey dude my game freezes on start up with the mods listed
I haven't experienced the game freezing like that. All I can suggest is rebooting the PC and trying again. If you've already done that, I would suggest going to the mod Discord page and asking a question in the #troubleshooting section. They are usually very good at coming up with suggestions there. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer.
could you make an update to the 1.0.1 ver install
I do have this as something I want to do, but I'm holding off until I decide if my current LWOTC playthrough will continue (it's with an older pre-steam build) or if I will start a new one with the newest Steam version. I'll be putting this up for a vote on my channel in the near future, and that answer to that poll will determine how soon I will make an updated version of this installation video.
So in a nutshell, yes I will make an update, but no, I don't know exactly when...at least not yet.
@@ZigZagZog wow, didnt expect a reply. Will be waiting for that poll. respect and subed
Thanks! You're awesome.
great guide! thanks!
Just be aware that there are now newer versions of the mod. You should be able to find the downloads with the links provided. If not, let me know.
Totally ready to come back to this, and check out some more of your vids.. take care man
@@ZigZagZog oh hey one more thing, did you ever do a "recommended mods from your personal playthru of lwotc " video by any chance?
Thanks for the update on the newest Beta. I also hear that they are just waiting on a Highlander update to be completed before they make the mod available on the Steam Workshop.
I've never done a "MODS" video for LWOTC, but I do include a list in the comments section of my actual playthroughs of what mods I'm using for the playthrough.
Hi thanks a lot for that. Can you link all mod you use plz ?
First reply disappeared on my end, so I'll try again, just in case.
First off thanks for the comment! You can find my current mod list in my season 2 playthrough. Any episode description should have the link. Season 2 link is in THIS video's description. Thanks again!
@@ZigZagZog Ok thx my friend . Gl and thx :)
hey the reddit link isnt working to download the mod
Sorry about that. I've now updated the reddit link to the newest build 1.0 beta 4. Install instructions should remain the same, just a newer build. Thanks for the heads up!
how to play lw wotc without steam?
I'm not familiar with the non-steam versions. I might recommend asking in the LWOTC Discord. Lot's of knowledge there. I think the link should be in the video description. If not, let me know, and I'll reply with the link.
If you own GOG version of the game or epic you can use skymods.
Works with Epic version?
Liked for Firefox use
Firefox has always been good to me. Never given me a reason to look elsewhere. :-)
Thank you so much
I'm glad the video helped you. Now go have fun learning and playing the mod. 👍
I'm guessing you figured the red fog thing out before I could reply. :-)
@@ZigZagZog Exactly :P Thanks anyway hahaha
How did the devs mess up this hard to make people jump all these hoops just to get mods working. Im not impressed.
Thanks! Enjoy the mod.
shame we cant use this on epic store version
I'm not aware if it's possible. Have you at least checked on the Discord to see if anyone had come up with a way to do it?
@@ZigZagZog i dont have this game discord... but ive tryed everything... and unfortunally is a no... now im fightning for a refund ....
Good Luck!
30 minutes long jesus christ why could they not just put the mod on steam like long war 2
30 minutes to install a mod?!?!?!?!
LoL It's made for a beginner mod installer. Obviously not for someone like you. :-) And BTW, it's available via the Steam Workshop now. So This video is no longer required, except for those who prefer this method.
TQ
30min video? no mod is worth that time.
It was made for a true beginner. Probably more detail than necessary for someone with a little knowledge. But this video was made before the Steam release, so it’s a much easier process now.
This is for steam version, useless. Dislike
Manual install 👍
Install all files as normal, then add/include them to the Default ModOptions.ini file in Xcom2/LongWarOfTheChosen/xcomgame/config
It should look something like this;
[Engine.XcomModOptions]
ActiveMods="X2WOTCCommunityHighlander"
ActiveMods="LongWarOfTheChosen"
ActiveMods="BetterSecondWaveSupport"
(Etc..)
The names of the mods here 🖕 must be the same as the name of the .XcomMod file
It can be confusing because the mod "title" mentioned in the .XcomMod file itself
Is usually spelt slightly different, or with spaces inbetween the words
For example, the robojumperSquadSelect mod (has to be added as) robojumperSquadSelect_Wotc
Just go thru 'em all slowly & it should work fine
Without those awful third party things like steam
