Why did you say "allegedly" about Russia when they were caught and found guilty? That seems very shady.
The high ups of the IOC. I know in the past the British IOC officials lived like lords of the Olympic funding while refusing to fund sports men and women. Since Team GB has got lottery funding and there's accountability GB is now a super power in many sports.

@@dragonslayerdragonslayer - Sort of but if you Google it, you'll see the Official Russian Team is banned which is why they are not allowed to compete under the Russian flag or play the Russian anthem if they win. So they are the athletes of Russia but not Russia. It may seem a small distinction but Russia itself is officially banned. But they don't want younger athletes to suffer for their countries mistakes.

They did this in eSports and majority of people agreed that it was the organizations fault for making a shit system that was so easily abused

I actually kinda of agree that the Badminton one is sorta BS, if qualifying is made up so that losing gets you an easier game then the tournament itself needs reworked. You see it (or used to not so much these days because games are played at the same time) in football with teams playing for draws in the champions league or the Euros and World Cup.
Actually, that's why there are matches played at the same time. To keep intentional losing from giving you an unfair advantage

1996 Olympics (Atlanta): Daniel Petrov (Bulgaria) vs Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco (Philippines). The latter was screwed out of what would've been his country's first gold medal due to rigged scoring.
Onyok's story (the aftermath of the games) was a sad one. It only came to light after Hidilyn won the first ever gold and their were monetary pledges....something that Onyok did not receive (a.k.a "false hope") that's why he entered show business :(
Well they have a gold medal now, so he has been avenged.

The twin track athletes who swapped places reminds me of a guy I know who actually escaped prison that way. He was visited by his identical twin brother, also an ex-con, and convinced his weaker-minded brother to swap places with him. How they did it, I don't know; but it worked. It took two months for wardens to figure out something was wrong.

Never heard about the Paralympics one, that's jaw dropping. The participation of 'Not' Russia in Tokyo after everything they did was a joke, and the IOC really made a mess of an ideal chance to send a message out.
You might want to check your facts with the tug of war dishonourable mention! The Americans accused them of cheating because they were beaten, the Liverpool police offered them a rematch with them in barefoot, the Americans withdrew their accusation.

Sports Illustrated actually had a picture of the rig. it was NOT a circuit board like in the clip (like you could actually HIDE one in the guard??). There were extensions of the 2 blade wires that ran along his grip -- underneath the tape over the grip (which was legal at the time) -- and to a button by his pinky (not on on the blade). All he had to do was push that button and he'd fire the light.
Of course, it's possible that Boris didn't decide to rig his epee on his own....remember this was during the old Soviet days, and if the KGB told you to cheat....you cheated.

If they didn't, they would be permanently kicked out of sports schools they trained in. During the 1976 games in Montreal, Shirley Babashoff, one of the members on the United States attempted to blow the whistle on the scheme by calling out her GDR rivals for PED use due to hair growth and deepening of the voices, but was labeled as a poor sportsperson, and there were strong allegations from other competitors and observers they were doping, but state resources were used to cover it up.
After the Berlin Wall came down, the GDR's doping program unraveled, and suspicions were confirmed. Whistleblower Verner Franke, who has since passed away uncovered the scheme. It was revealed that 8,000 to 9,000 East German athletes were given performance-enhancing drugs. Many of them have long-term damage as a result of the steroids they were given, most notable being Heidi Krieger, who is now Andreas Krieger. Those who organized and masterminded the doping program, such as Manfred Ewald and Manfred Höppner were caught, but given suspended sentences for their roles. Much like East Germany, Russia was also implicated in state-sponsored doping. Former East German athletes warned Russians that doping isn't worth it.

Lance competed in Sydney in 2000, his 3rd place was voided as part of a much larger scale stripping of titles earned…plus I don’t think that Lance is primarily known as an Olympic athlete like the others on this list

I used to love watching all kinds of sports competitions in my younger days, but today I'm barely watching anything. Why? All the doping and cheating took all the fun out of it. When people win my first thoughts are almost always "did they cheat"? Cheating seems to be an issue no matter what, so I guess humans are nothing but honourless garbage

They did, Tonya competed before it was confirmed that she was involved. As soon as that came out she was banned for life.
They didn’t find the extent to her involvement until after the event, and then she banned.
The Russian state sponsored cheating should have been #1. A team cheating pales in comparison to an entire country cheating. And whats more egregious was the slap on the wrist "punishment" handed down by the IOC.

In my opinion, those players didn't cheat at 2012 women's double badminton. The problems were made by the UK. They used the wrong rules and schedules to restrict the actions of those players. Whoever won the games would face the no.1 in the next round. Therefore, no one wanted to win. This schedule's mistakes were made by the London Olympics, not by the players.
Ironically, the beginning of the London Olympics was celebrating the UK sailing players who had decided to lose to the game intentionally. In this way, these two UK players would not need to face French players who they never won until the final. Finally, these two "smart" UK players went to the final, and French players lost before the final. These "smart" players won. Interesting!!!
The problem with your "excuse" is the fact it wasn't just the British who complained about the badminton players, EVERYONE did, so trying to shoehorn a complain about the British sailors is laughable.
They all "cheated" because they broke the rules on always trying your best to win.

There's a rule that you can't purposefully shave points during a game! Match-fixing is indeed illegal! That was blatant match-fixing!
But more importantly, the story gets told wrong, and the system really wasn't broken in the first place (group winners play group runners up. You can't much more fair than that, hence why most sports use it. Even the update they made to the format didn't change that, but simply made it less predictable which group winners and group runners up would face each other). The reason the whole thing started was about greed and nothing else (after one Chinese pair got upset and fell to second, which meant the two Chinese pairs would face in the semi-finals instead of the finals, coaches of the two teams got together, and told the other one to lose on purpose and fall to second so because they wanted the two teams to finish 1-2, even though losing on purpose would likely mean a much tougher quarterfinal opponent and a likely semi-final matchup with the Danish pair who upset the Chinese pair and won the group over them). It was straight up match-fixing for a dumb reason!
But yes, once it became obvious the second Chinese pair was shaving points, their Korean opponents tried to shave points as well to counter it (and failed, as they won the game and won the group), and as a result, the second Korean team and the Indonesian team in the other group shaved points as well in an attempt to avoid facing that Chinese team that shaved points! Let's be clear, the whole debacle could've been stopped if they'd disqualified the Chinese pair that was shaving points immediately after it was noticed. But they didn't, and that lead to several other teams trying to shave points to counter that attempt to shave points! Was it fair that those other teams also got disqualified? Not sure. On one hand, how can you disqualify one team but not the other three who did the exact same thing? On the other, they don't do it if the first team doesn't do it! Basically, there was no 100% fair move at that point, but the move they made was probably as fair as it was going to get.
So yes, this narrative that it was the system that was broken is simply false (the system may have been somewhat flawed, but it was honestly perhaps even less flawed than it is now, where there might be more incentive to throw a match and avoid facing a team that has been upset and has fallen to second, knowing now that if you win first in your group, they could be drawn to face you as early as the quarterfinals, and the only way to avoid them is to finish second yourself! You see, the problem never really got fixed, because it was never really broken in the first place. It's arguably even more broken now because of those antics)! The problem was greedy coaches trying to screw over their own athletes and other deserving athletes by straight up fixing matches!
Not properly a cheating thing, but after many Olympics that I have seen in my life, still as of today I find it quite amazing that lot of times athletes that never had remarkable results suddenly become WR Level athletes with impressive scores when the Olympics are held in their contry :)

I'm surprised not to see the Chinese for the 2008 summer olympics. I remember when the female gymnastics were going on at the time how great Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin were for the US how they both were able to win golds and silvers and then there was this Chinese girl who clearly was under age competing against them and winning more golds. There was even an investigation about her because she clearly looked too young and I actually think she still was. Why was that not on here? She couldn't have been proven of age. I'm completely certain Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson would have won more medals if it wasn't for her.

At the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, the pairs' figure skating competition was fixed by a French judge in favor of the Russians. Canadian team given second & led to a complete restructuring of the sport & the scoring.
The French judge that made sure (by giving false scores) that the Russian pair of figure skaters would win over the Canadian pair of Salé and Pelletier in the Winter Olympics in 2002

The Match Fixing Scandal at the 2012 London Olympics involving Badminton Athletes of China, South Korea and Indonesia is one of the worst in history. I hope so.
Russia was not banned, they are competing right now as a matter of fact. They just can't fly the Russian flag, right now they have an almost blank white flag and are being called the Russian Olympic Committee

The Olympics is the highest sporting event in the world. Athletes who are caught cheating during the Olympics should be BANNED FOR LIFE for disrespecting the sanctity of the games.
I always love this one Olympics where it was us vs Russia in basketball but let's just say the US had won the game until Russia started cheating basically getting all of the bogus calls to give them free plays and win the game well basically what happened was the US won silver but the team knowing they had been robbed just left and never picked the medal up

Also, I didn't realize there was a minimum age. If they are the best at 12, who cares? There is no Olympian who would refuse a medal if it caused a permanent injury... it isn't okay but it is what they strive to achieve...
The rules clearly state that there is a minimum age, so being younger is obviously cheating regardless of why the rule is there.

You are absolutely right! It's a joke that they're essentially still able to represent Russia when Russia is supposed to be stricken from the record books! That needs to change.
And let's be clear, *most* sports *have* no minimum age, simply because there's almost zero *advantage* to competing in it before you're fully grown. Yes, the sports that *do* have a minimum age often do so because competing when you're younger often offers certain *advantages,* which by itself is usually just part of the sport, but of course, when the advantages come due to the athletes not being fully grown yet, well, simply put, then there are several *very serious* issues that will destroy *your entire sport* if you, the governing body of the sport, do not step in and put checks on.
So yes, basketball, for example, has no minimum age, because there's no advantage to taking someone younger. Yes, the heavy load could hurt the younger athlete in that sport as well, but there's no incentive to actively recruit players for whom that risk is very real, so you don't need to put in a rule de-incentivizing a team from forcing younger athletes to take those risks.
But obviously, for some other sports, like gymnastics, not being fully grown provides some *major* advantages. Having shorter legs in proportion to your body gives athletes a *huge* advantage, and since that proportion is most advantageous when the athlete is younger, there is a *huge* incentive for teams and coaches to essentially force younger athletes to destroy their bodies and stunt their growth (moreso than usual), and therefore, to prevent catastrophic failures in athletes later in life (which not only are bad for the athletes themselves, but bad for the sport, because you're going to see a massive exodus of athletes who choose to do sports that *don't* leave them unable to walk without chronic pain by their early twenties) they need to de-incentivize that behavior and basically say, "you're only allowed to take athletes who are more or less fully grown." Yes, I agree, there are still problems, but that's basically the idea, and for once, it's actually the *right* one (I wish they were more consistent in sticking to that principle of "safety first" though. Good God, they fail to protect their athletes in *so many other* ways)!

While the Spanish cheating is completely reprehensible, I wonder why the undercover reporter waited all the way until the tournament was over to blow the whistle. This meant all of Spains defeated opponents before that final were cheated, and some could have won medals themselves.

Video should be renamed 'Top 10 Times Olympic Athletes Got Caught for Cheating', cheating in general, you'd have to include probably 1000s of athletes over the years. For example, almost every winning sprinter in olympic history.
Yes they seem to have conveniently skipped over most of the high profile US doping scandals/suspicion (no mention of Carl Lewis, Flo Jo, Lance Armstrong, Marion Jones, Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin etc etc ) but focus on the heavy boots worn by Great Britain in the tug of war.
