Actually, Trek reboot totally changed Kirk's academic time, making him the "horndog" as described in the video. In "Where No Man Has Gone Before", his best friend, Gary, remembers "Academy Kirk" as "A stack of books with legs", implying he was the total opposite, and a serious academic student who Gary had to trick into having fun, as said in his line, "If I hadn't aimed that little blonde lab technician at you...." So it seems the only way to get Kirk to loosen up in the Academy was to trick him into having fun. A far cry from the cadet Kirk we met in 2009's Trek.

Allow me to call "bullshit" on the first kiss. The Kirk/Uhura kiss was the first ROMANTIC interracial kiss on U.S. TV. It is something quite different than the friendly kiss on the cheek/corner of the mouth that Sammy gave Nancy (although, for the time, even that would have been somewhat scandalous in many homes across the Nation, not just the South).
There was a ROMANTIC kiss about a year or two before on "I Spy" with Robert Culp and France Nuyen, but Americans tend to think race only occurs between black and white people. Not too mention, there was a ROMANTIC kiss on Star Trek in the episode "Mirror, Mirror."
Well, yes, at the time, the furor would have mostly been over a white man and black woman or a black man and white woman. Honestly, had the latter happened, it's entirely possible the studio would have been burned down by the "decent" folk of yester-year. In case you're interested, in at least one of the novels it was described as "passion's mastery." Not that there were no emotions, nor that it was emotional control, but mastery of the passions. It gave more detail, but it's been a long time. Still, in the words of my favorite character, fascinating.

I beg to differ. There were a couple episodes where there was a hint Data could feel pity and anger, although it is shown like it is not. The chapter where he created his daughter Lal is an example for two reasons: The first is that you can not give what you don't have and he gave her emotions which in the end were her doom. Another was the scene when he announced Lal's death. The camera shot in the end focus on his face suggesting something was going on and challenging the audience to find it. The other instance was on the chapter he was abducted to become part of a collection. When Fajo kills the girl, he logically reasons he must kill Fajo and even discharges his weapon although he seems "surprised" when he is asked about it. Then, when Fajo is in the holding cell, Data closes his interaction with an irony designed to annoy Fajo regarding the lack of emotion but, was there a lack? Again, the camera focuses on Data's expression as hinting the audience he is experiencing something, although it is buried inside his android's face. Brilliant, cheers!

Obviously not an "air" kiss, and a kiss is a kiss, to the cheek or to the lips. Sammy was known for kissing everyone, even male co-stars, so it just blew by. Also, TV exec's concerns about "the South" have proven to be unfounded propoganda.
It's a peck on the cheek, a peck on the cheek or forehead (e.g. in the movie "Big") has no sexual implications (perhaps just the opposite) and was, therefore, nowhere near as groundbreaking as a lip kiss. That's why this guy had to rummage through a pile of tv dreck to find Sammy's and everyone knows about the Shatner-Nichols scene. A peck on the cheek is unequivocally platonic. You'd have to be a eunuch to equate a peck on the cheek with a kiss on the lips.

So kirk only had romantic relations in 25% of the episodes? That's kind of a lot given it was never a long standing romance. Guinan only appeared in like 25% of the episodes but she was a running thing in Star Trek TNG. If it happened once or twice maybe you can dismiss it but come on Kirk was a ladies man
Still it's hard to say it's a false thing the fans made up like 'Beam me up scotty' when it happened in a lot of episodes even if they don't make it a major plot point every time.

Seven-of-Nine may have turned into an integral character but she WAS in fact brought in as "eye candy" when it became apparent Jennifer Lien was leaving the series. Regardless of what they might tell you, Jeri Ryan's introduction into the series was designed to draw certain fans, whoever they may be, to the franchise. It's no secret the first several seasons of *Voyager* were so-so. The last three seasons in particular were absolutely phenomenal - BTW, other than TOS, Voyager is my favorite.
Another false fact that YOU think is true - Star Wars saved Star Trek TMP. WRONG! Conventional wisdom in the 1970's was that there could only be one SF blockbuster. Star Wars was so big that Paramount was convinced NOT to proceed with the movie. It was the success of Close Encounters of the Third Kind that convinced Paramount that more than one major SF movie would fly and paved the way for Star Trek the Motion Picture.
The studios saw the success of Star Wars in 1977 and wanted, to use a Trek phrase, "a piece of the action". Therefore they greenlighted a lot of sci-fi scripts (like Close Encounters and later on ET- the Extraterrestrial) and the "Trek Phase II" series for TV. It was soon apparent that they could probably make more money turning "Phase II" into a movie, so that's what they did... (early in the pre-production of "Phase II"-- they even used some of the original actors cast for Phase II, most notably David Gautreaux (who was cast to play a Vulcan in Phase II and ended up as the commander of the doomed "Epsilon 9" space station Vger absorbs early in the film). Once it was clear that sci-fi movies could sell, even with rather weak "made for TV scripts" (like Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which was basically just a 2.5 hour version of Nomad in "the Changeling" episode of original Trek) the studios did a whole plethora of sci-fi movies and TV shows... Universal had both Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century out in 1979, the same time frame that "The Motion Picture" hit theaters. While the shows were fairly successful (at least early on) the production costs for a weekly TV series so heavily dependent on special effects was still very high, and soon a lot of the footage was being reused over and over again as a cost-cutting move. The writing didn't improve over time, either, and so neither show lasted more than a couple seasons. Later! OL J R :)

Genuine question: I remember an episode where Spock is forced to feel emotion and Jim shouts that as a vulcan, Spock *cannot* feel emotions because they'll kill him. I always took that to mean that Spock was emotionless by nature.
What Kirk was saying was that the sudden rush of the emotional overload would kill him. Look what happened to Sarek. That was the result of his Bendii's syndrome.
Sure, they made some interesting stories around 7 of 9 but that doesn't mean she wasn't put on the show as eye candy. I'm sure those high heels and skin-tight outfits were very practical to wear when you are performing your duties on a starship!
The CHARACTER of Seven of Nine may have been viable, but the casting of Jeri Ryan and the catsuit look she was given (with enlarged breasts, btw. That is not her natural cup size) was absolutely for no other purpose than to boost ratings with T&A. Hell, they basically openly stated this when promoting Voyager's fourth season. The character would have been just as important and memorable if it were instead an adolescent male, like Hugh or Icheb. It would have only further emphasized the maternal relationship with Janeway,... but wouldn't have appealed as much to the male demographic they were desperately reaching for when Voyager's ratings began to slump. Make no mistake, they created the character to find some way of bringing blatant sex appeal into the show. And Kate Mulgrew was right about one thing,... it did totally become the Seven of Nine show in its second half, removing Janeway as the primary focus.
You were doing so good until you got to the "kiss". The kiss of Sammy Davis Jr. doesn't count. That type of "kiss" was always socially acceptable as it was never considered anything more than a handshake.
If they step outside US TV there are inter-racial kisses from British TV way before either and I am sure someone could probably turn up some examples before them with some looking. BBC TV showed an adaption of a play in 1959 where a white trade union leader has a daughter who is dating a West Indian and plans to marry him. There are also several other UK examples of inter-racial kisses that date way before Star Trek. Also even if we confined it to the US I Spy is one show that has a better claim in this area.

About Spock and emotion: Any real Star Trek fan knows that he had emotions. For example, in the episode "The Savage Curtain he meets "Surak" who is really an alien but he displays emotion and admits to it.
Anybody with even a passing familiarity with the Ferengi knows that there is currency in Star Trek. GPL is a standard currency for all exchanges between a Ferengi and his customers.
All of these facts are well known by any halfway serious Star Trek fan. These might be misconceptions amongst the *general public*, but absolutely not Trek fans. Shitty, dishonest, click-bait headline to sell adverts.

This would be the scene when he walks into the Klingon sisters last refuge and back-fists the clueless guards on either side constituting the very first "fight" Worf left standing. .

7:58 -- Troi's character concept may have evolved from series pre-production, but the explanation of her abilities given to viewers during "Encounter At Farpoint" was that all pure-strain Betazoids are fully, effortlessly telepathic, but Troi, being only half-Betazoid (her father was human, and her mother a Betazoid ambassador), was merely empathic. She could only develop actual telepathy with someone with whom she had been intimate. Her Imzadi turned out to be, of course, none other than William T. "a-girl-in-every-port" Riker. (Wow, a social-outcast-from-her-own-people officer with limited telepathic abilities who was a half-breed between an ambassador and a human partner, and a handsome young human officer with a tendency to sleep around while off-duty. The reboot's are bollocks. They have the crew at the academy at the same time whereas originally Spock was science officer under Pike (before Kirk) and Checkov joined Enterprise as a 17 year old ensign at a time when Kirk must be about 40. Furthermore McCoy wasn't the original doctor.
It is an alternate timeline called the Kelvin timeline. I recently saw a whole video on you tube about it. Apparently cbs owns the original timeline so when paramount wanted to do the reboot they had to create an alternate timeline. It allowed me to finally digest that abomination easier.
they are technically not reboot movies...if you pay attention to the story its actually a continuation of the main story where Spock goes back in time and accidentally kills George Kirk, which basically alters the timeline and causes events to happen differently
The Federation does not use money. However outside civilizations do and the Federation uses money to deal with them. Which when you think about it seems unrealistic. The Federation replicators are capable of creating any form of currency or commodities in endless amounts. It must be the philosophy of the Prime Directive that keeps them from making sure not to crash every economy that they encounter.
I'm not expert but that sounds about right. It's mentioned more than a few times that members of the federation only work because of a sense of duty, everyone on the Enterprise is basically a volunteer.
Good point and I agree that it was the Prime Directive that kinda excuses the unrealism. As far as I recall they never used currency amongst themselves, only when dealing with aliens who used money.

Andrew Johnson I think the federation used energy credits. no proof of that, though, just that their money is called "credits". also, some things can't be replicated, or are more expensive to replicate, like lifeforms and latinum. but yes, on DS9 they used Ferengi, Bajoran, or occasionally Cardassian currency because that was what the trader wanted.
MonsterHunterRoon: yes, so did I! It was great because I was so disappointed when the series ended, and the cartoon let the story continue. And yes, I am old. And yes I am a woman and I can not get enough of science fiction -- all science fiction; so I disagree that women do not watch sci-fi. I have always been drawn to sci-fi because the possibilities are endless. It is the future and we do not know how things will be done in the future. It's a kind of freedom for the mind because there are no real boundaries.
OMG Spock doesn't have emotions because he's human. Vulcans have MUCH more violent emotions than humans! That's WHY they developed the disciplines of logic! If anything, being half human would make it EASIER for Spock to control his emotions. There, that's a fact about Star Trek that everyone always gets wrong. And dude ... everyone knew about the animated episodes, it's not like they were produced in secret.
To be fair, that fact about Vulcans wasn't brought out until later episodes. Originally Spock himself claimed that his emotions came from his human side. (Perhaps Vulcans wanted everybody to think that they lacked emotions?)
This is a pretty good primer for casual fans, I enjoyed it a lot! Thank you for dispensing with the whole "womanizing Kirk" thing, the trope has always annoyed me. What I liked about Kirk was that he and his ex-girlfriends always respected one another, and remained friends over the years (the insane Janice Lester excepted, but that was her bad, not his.) My take on Kirk vs Picard: Kirk started out a "a stack of books on legs" (description by old friend Gary Mitchell in the first pilot) but eventually became something of a cowboy and an extrovert. Picard started out a trouble-making cowboy until he lost his heart in a bar fight, and changed to become a quieter, more thoughtful and introspective captain. Also, when asked "Kirk or Picard", I always pick "Sisko" (he's the best!)

I felt exactly the same way about 7 of 9 when she first appeared out of Borg makeup. Just eye candy. Then the episode where she goes schitzo as all the people she assimilated start coming to the surface happened and I was floored by Jeri Ryan's acting talent and never though of as (just) eye candy again.

David Jensen- Sammy didn't die of old age. He died of throat cancer at age 64. And Frank Sinatra respected Sammy enough to not have made a big deal about a real kiss between him and his daughter.
Good effort, but I knew all of this already. Actually Deanna Troi is a HALF-Betazoid, her father was human, she does not poses the full telepathy abilities of other Betazoids, she is only empathic, not telepathic. This video hinted at this, but failed to actually state it.
It would probably be better to say, she's empathic, but still telepathic with certain people. As pointed out below, telepathic with other telepaths in general, and (at least hinted at) certain others. It's certainly hinted that at one time she and Riker had some level of telepathic contact, though it may have been lost later.
by the sounds of that one conversation they had in the first episode it was something they put a lot of work into making happen. So she could in theory communicate telepathically so long as the other person got some degree of training and probably required a special bond between the two.
Seven of Nine absolutely was just eye candy and that is why she was brought on the show. It WAS just a ratings ploy and it worked because she was a total bombshell hottie. Her character did do some significant things and participated more than just standing around looking pretty, but she was absolutely only brought on that show and put in an array of skintight suits just to be sexy for more ratings. Kate Mulgrew was justified in being pissed about it, however she should NOT have been angry at Jerri for taking the job, she should've been angry at the people in charge who made those decisions instead of making Jerri's life a living hell for all the seasons she was on there. Funny enough, Jerri started boning one of the guys in charge. Kind of funny how that works, huh?
Why doesn’t anybody ever get the money thing right?? There’s no money exchanged within the federation, you are simply given what you need in a perfect socialist utopia. Corporations, capitalism & the greed that drove them are no longer part of humanity. Outside of the Federation, there are plenty of economic systems at play in the galaxy, so the Federation acquires credit within them through trade deals to facilitate their various external initiatives & as one of them, Starfleet officers can be granted access to external credit accounts in times of need.
That's why its on the list. People not well versed in the lore believe there is no currency in the future and constantly bring it up. They don't realize it just isn't used within the main body of the federation.
Actually, "credits", rather than currency, are used, as referenced obliquely in the phrase "I'll bet you credits to navy beans..." said by Mr DeSalle in the episode "Catspaw".

I remember adult family members stating how that is where the future was really heading. Paper money would no longer exist and everyone would live on credit. So this is why I think your comment is accurate, and in truth we are getting there -- especially with this 'bit-coin' that people are starting to push. There are some businesses that almost go into a panic if you pull paper money out of your pocket and they ask if you can use a credit card instead.

MegzeeR I think DS9 suffered from being just stuck on a Space Station and not traveling through the galaxy on a ship so they could keep meeting new aliens it was just the Cardassians over and over. They tried to fix that later in the series when they created that wormhole and space shuttle or mini ship to travel into the wormhole but it never did grow on me either.

Most of us knew about the animated series and were fans of it. most of us already also knew that "Beam me up Scotty" was not used in the show. Do you have anything original in your diatribe? I don't know, but two strikes are enough for me. I'm out.
The cartoon is a continuation of the story & crew, which can be argued is a sequel, but is more meant to be like additional seasons but in a different format because there were many ideas that just couldn't be done with practical effects in that era & for budget concerns. At this point, it's fairly common lore among nerds
TAS aired 4 years after the close of TOS. It wasn't a budget decision to move it to animation. The Filmation studios came to Roddenberry with the idea. It was also not shown in prime-time. It was a Saturday morning cartoon that was shown alongside Filmation's live action superhero shows like Shazam! and Isis. It wasn't completely dumbed down like some kid's shows were at the time, but it wasn't put into the adult culture like the live action original series was.

Actually, Trek reboot totally changed Kirk's academic time, making him the "horndog" as described in the video. In "Where No Man Has Gone Before", his best friend, Gary, remembers "Academy Kirk" as "A stack of books with legs", implying he was the total opposite, and a serious academic student who Gary had to trick into having fun, as said in his line, "If I hadn't aimed that little blonde lab technician at you...." So it seems the only way to get Kirk to loosen up in the Academy was to trick him into having fun. A far cry from the cadet Kirk we met in 2009's Trek.
The women were hot in the movie; instead of having those god-awful styles of the older series that made even the young look old.

Allow me to call "bullshit" on the first kiss. The Kirk/Uhura kiss was the first ROMANTIC interracial kiss on U.S. TV. It is something quite different than the friendly kiss on the cheek/corner of the mouth that Sammy gave Nancy (although, for the time, even that would have been somewhat scandalous in many homes across the Nation, not just the South).
There was a ROMANTIC kiss about a year or two before on "I Spy" with Robert Culp and France Nuyen, but Americans tend to think race only occurs between black and white people. Not too mention, there was a ROMANTIC kiss on Star Trek in the episode "Mirror, Mirror."
Well, yes, at the time, the furor would have mostly been over a white man and black woman or a black man and white woman. In case you're interested, in at least one of the novels it was described as "passion's mastery." Not that there were no emotions, nor that it was emotional control, but mastery of the passions. It gave more detail, but it's been a long time. Still, in the words of my favorite character, fascinating.

I beg to differ. There were a couple episodes where there was a hint Data could feel pity and anger, although it is shown like it is not. The chapter where he created his daughter Lal is an example for two reasons: The first is that you can not give what you don't have and he gave her emotions which in the end were her doom. Another was the scene when he announced Lal's death. The camera shot in the end focus on his face suggesting something was going on and challenging the audience to find it.
The other instance was on the chapter he was abducted to become part of a collection. When Fajo kills the girl, he logically reasons he must kill Fajo and even discharges his weapon although he seems "surprised" when he is asked about it. Then, when Fajo is in the holding cell, Data closes his interaction with an irony designed to annoy Fajo regarding the lack of emotion but, was there a lack? Again, the camera focuses on Data's expression as hinting the audience he is experiencing something, although it is buried inside his android's face.

It's a peck on the cheek, a peck on the cheek or forehead (e.g. in the movie "Big") has no sexual implications (perhaps just the opposite) and was, therefore, nowhere near as groundbreaking as a lip kiss. That's why this guy had to rummage through a pile of tv dreck to find Sammy's and everyone knows about the Shatner-Nichols scene. A peck on the cheek is unequivocally platonic. You'd have to be a eunuch to equate a peck on the cheek with a kiss on the lips.

Seven-of-Nine may have turned into an integral character but she WAS in fact brought in as "eye candy" when it became apparent Jennifer Lien was leaving the series. Regardless of what they might tell you, Jeri Ryan's introduction into the series was designed to draw certain fans, whoever they may be, to the franchise. It's no secret the first several seasons of *Voyager* were so-so. The last three seasons in particular were absolutely phenomenal - BTW, other than TOS, Voyager is my favorite.

Another false fact that YOU think is true - Star Wars saved Star Trek TMP. WRONG! Conventional wisdom in the 1970's was that there could only be one SF blockbuster. Star Wars was so big that Paramount was convinced NOT to proceed with the movie. It was the success of Close Encounters of the Third Kind that convinced Paramount that more than one major SF movie would fly and paved the way for Star Trek the Motion Picture.
The studios saw the success of Star Wars in 1977 and wanted, to use a Trek phrase, "a piece of the action". Therefore they greenlighted a lot of sci-fi scripts (like Close Encounters and later on ET- the Extraterrestrial) and the "Trek Phase II" series for TV. It was soon apparent that they could probably make more money turning "Phase II" into a movie, so that's what they did... (early in the pre-production of "Phase II"-- they even used some of the original actors cast for Phase II, most notably David Gautreaux (who was cast to play a Vulcan in Phase II and ended up as the commander of the doomed "Epsilon 9" space station Vger absorbs early in the film).
Once it was clear that sci-fi movies could sell, even with rather weak "made for TV scripts" (like Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which was basically just a 2.5 hour version of Nomad in "the Changeling" episode of original Trek) the studios did a whole plethora of sci-fi movies and TV shows... Universal had both Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century out in 1979, the same time frame that "The Motion Picture" hit theaters. While the shows were fairly successful (at least early on) the production costs for a weekly TV series so heavily dependent on special effects was still very high, and soon a lot of the footage was being reused over and over again as a cost-cutting move. The writing didn't improve over time, either, and so neither show lasted more than a couple seasons.

Genuine question: I remember an episode where Spock is forced to feel emotion and Jim shouts that as a vulcan, Spock *cannot* feel emotions because they'll kill him. I always took that to mean that Spock was emotionless by nature.

I've rewatched the 7of9 section of the video several times, purely for accuracy in my comment. Sorry did Grunge say something about something?
The CHARACTER of Seven of Nine may have been viable, but the casting of Jeri Ryan and the catsuit look she was given (with enlarged breasts, btw. That is not her natural cup size) was absolutely for no other purpose than to boost ratings with T&A. Hell, they basically openly stated this when promoting Voyager's fourth season.
The character would have been just as important and memorable if it were instead an adolescent male, like Hugh or Icheb. It would have only further emphasized the maternal relationship with Janeway,... but wouldn't have appealed as much to the male demographic they were desperately reaching for when Voyager's ratings began to slump.
Make no mistake, they created the character to find some way of bringing blatant sex appeal into the show. And Kate Mulgrew was right about one thing,... it did totally become the Seven of Nine show in its second half, removing Janeway as the primary focus.
If I had romantic encounters 25% of the times I go to work I would still consider myself a ladies man.

If they step outside US TV there are inter-racial kisses from British TV way before either and I am sure someone could probably turn up some examples before them with some looking. BBC TV showed an adaption of a play in 1959 where a white trade union leader has a daughter who is dating a West Indian and plans to marry him. There are also several other UK examples of inter-racial kisses that date way before Star Trek. Also even if we confined it to the US I Spy is one show that has a better claim in this area.

About Spock and emotion: Any real Star Trek fan knows that he had emotions. For example, in the episode "The Savage Curtain he meets "Surak" who is really an alien but he displays emotion and admits to it.
Anybody with even a passing familiarity with the Ferengi knows that there is currency in Star Trek. GPL is a standard currency for all exchanges between a Ferengi and his customers.

The reboot's are bollocks. They have the crew at the academy at the same time whereas originally Spock was science officer under Pike (before Kirk) and Checkov joined Enterprise as a 17 year old ensign at a time when Kirk must be about 40. Furthermore McCoy wasn't the original doctor.

It is an alternate timeline called the Kelvin timeline. I recently saw a whole video on you tube about it. Apparently cbs owns the original timeline so when paramount wanted to do the reboot they had to create an alternate timeline. It allowed me to finally digest that abomination easier.
they are technically not reboot movies...if you pay attention to the story its actually a continuation of the main story where Spock goes back in time and accidentally kills George Kirk, which basically alters the timeline and causes events to happen differently

The Federation does not use money. However outside civilizations do and the Federation uses money to deal with them.
Which when you think about it seems unrealistic. The Federation replicators are capable of creating any form of currency or commodities in endless amounts. It must be the philosophy of the Prime Directive that keeps them from making sure not to crash every economy that they encounter.
I'm not expert but that sounds about right. It's mentioned more than a few times that members of the federation only work because of a sense of duty, everyone on the Enterprise is basically a volunteer.

To be fair, that fact about Vulcans wasn't brought out until later episodes. Originally Spock himself claimed that his emotions came from his human side. (Perhaps Vulcans wanted everybody to think that they lacked emotions?)
This is a pretty good primer for casual fans, I enjoyed it a lot! Thank you for dispensing with the whole "womanizing Kirk" thing, the trope has always annoyed me. What I liked about Kirk was that he and his ex-girlfriends always respected one another, and remained friends over the years (the insane Janice Lester excepted, but that was her bad, not his.) My take on Kirk vs Picard: Kirk started out a "a stack of books on legs" (description by old friend Gary Mitchell in the first pilot) but eventually became something of a cowboy and an extrovert. Picard started out a trouble-making cowboy until he lost his heart in a bar fight, and changed to become a quieter, more thoughtful and introspective captain. Also, when asked "Kirk or Picard", I always pick "Sisko" (he's the best!)
I think Sisko was the worst, entirely unbelievable and very poorly acted.

It would probably be better to say, she's empathic, but still telepathic with certain people. As pointed out below, telepathic with other telepaths in general, and (at least hinted at) certain others. It's certainly hinted that at one time she and Riker had some level of telepathic contact, though it may have been lost later.
by the sounds of that one conversation they had in the first episode it was something they put a lot of work into making happen. So she could in theory communicate telepathically so long as the other person got some degree of training and probably required a special bond between the two.
Seven of Nine absolutely was just eye candy and that is why she was brought on the show. It WAS just a ratings ploy and it worked because she was a total bombshell hottie.
Her character did do some significant things and participated more than just standing around looking pretty, but she was absolutely only brought on that show and put in an array of skintight suits just to be sexy for more ratings. Kate Mulgrew was justified in being pissed about it, however she should NOT have been angry at Jerri for taking the job, she should've been angry at the people in charge who made those decisions instead of making Jerri's life a living hell for all the seasons she was on there.

Outside of the Federation, there are plenty of economic systems at play in the galaxy, so the Federation acquires credit within them through trade deals to facilitate their various external initiatives & as one of them, Starfleet officers can be granted access to external credit accounts in times of need.
That's why its on the list. People not well versed in the lore believe there is no currency in the future and constantly bring it up. They don't realize it just isn't used within the main body of the federation.

Remember the Trouble with Tribbles episode, and Mud was arguing with the bar keep about 'credits'? I remember adult family members stating how that is where the future was really heading. Paper money would no longer exist and everyone would live on credit. So this is why I think your comment is accurate, and in truth we are getting there -- especially with this 'bit-coin' that people are starting to push. There are some businesses that almost go into a panic if you pull paper money out of your pocket and they ask if you can use a credit card instead.

MegzeeR I think DS9 suffered from being just stuck on a Space Station and not traveling through the galaxy on a ship so they could keep meeting new aliens it was just the Cardassians over and over. They tried to fix that later in the series when they created that wormhole and space shuttle or mini ship to travel into the wormhole but it never did grow on me either.
the wormhole is actually the main story of the first episode of DS9...

Most of us knew about the animated series and were fans of it. most of us already also knew that "Beam me up Scotty" was not used in the show. Do you have anything original in your diatribe? I don't know, but two strikes are enough for me. I'm out.
The cartoon is a continuation of the story & crew, which can be argued is a sequel, but is more meant to be like additional seasons but in a different format because there were many ideas that just couldn't be done with practical effects in that era & for budget concerns. At this point, it's fairly common lore among nerds
TAS aired 4 years after the close of TOS. It wasn't a budget decision to move it to animation. The Filmation studios came to Roddenberry with the idea. It was also not shown in prime-time. It was a Saturday morning cartoon that was shown alongside Filmation's live action superhero shows like Shazam! and Isis. It wasn't completely dumbed down like some kid's shows were at the time, but it wasn't put into the adult culture like the live action original series was.
