The lesson from Crispy's confusion over the word "canoodling" is that old timey slang for sex can sneak pass the asexual filter in a way that doesn't cause crispy.exe to stop working. Other words this should be further tested with are "hanky panky" and "making whoopee."

The 2nd story, the guy who waited until the last minute to make a sheet, that's a "that guy" strategy to cheat on their sheet. Good addition. I know a lot of non-D&D games suggest you do this, and whatever you're playing making characters together lets you tie their backstories together, or come up with a reason for them to work as a team pre-game. That can make the first few sessions a lot smoother.
One of my groups isn't used to learning new systems. So when I'm bringing them new games we're going to be spending time before the session making characters and going over the rules. That whole "the players should be the strongest force" mentality is never gonna fly with me. It's one of the reasons I don't use npc classes for npcs, only player classes. Once you start down the road of player characters being the strongest beings every story becomes a "You're the chosen ones" thing and it's lame. I know this is a controversial take, once I got into a long argument about how many characters in a given country would be level 20 and I said hundreds, which made the person I was talking with gasp. They thought outside the party there should be none. All I'm gonna say is choose your words carefully if you wanna get cute with the local wizard or army commander in my campaigns, lol

"I'm sorry my friends, but if I don't stop this portal from opening up on the other side of the world, we'll lose regardless. This battle is to be fought on two fronts, and I know you can all handle BBEG."

Otherwise the world starts to feel like those old western movie sets where all the buildings were just facades and everything that isn't facing the camera is just unpainted wood. Intro: I was worried the table would act like jerks over OP choking on food. Thankfully they didn't, allowing the choking itself be the horror. Tabletop horror stories have shown there's people who prioritize their fun over someone's well being.
1st story: The samurai portion definitely felt bad, that guy overreacting to the plan to spice a love interest up. Later on he felt moronic.
2nd story: Hearing the DM admit problem player's wife was similarly bad explains how he could possibly get married. Good to hear the problem got kicked instead of OP having to leave just to avoid him.
3rd story: Another case of an agreed upon game plan getting tossed aside because someone's whiny. While it's usually DM's harassing player builds, players harassing a DM also happens. The players who stayed gave garbage advice for this scenario, like they expect they'll get their way next time.
4th story: Three good reasons to not date Sarah? Don't want to, no obligation to have three reasons, and this conversation is over. Good thing she accepted being dropped like a sack of bricks and replaced by sane people both in and out if the table.

One of my player character, aa fighter orc, met a BEG (not putting the first B as he was only the villain of the first arc) before his reveal, and they got a bit close through similar views and careful wording from my BEG to not seel himself out. When the reveal got done, he refused to fight him and just held him still in a grapple to not let him hurt others. He used the same talks they had when getting friends to plead him to stop his ritual about to drown the region.
In the end the BEG gave in (not without having two other characters at 0HP stabilized by the cleric), and forced the team to get out while he was dealing with the monster he had summoned. They never saw him again, but the orc fighter still hopes he is okey and searches for him during his downtime. I will not say if i have planned something or not in case my dear fighter friend come across this.
But i think, that's how you deal with the reveal of a close NPC revealed to be evil. Or at least one of the ways. There's so much to do with a relation turning betrayal, but i guess that would require putting work into it rather than having the NPC fall in their arms.

You can only cast a cantrip and a leveled spell in a turn if the leveled spell is a bonus action. You can, only in the case of having two levels in fighter, cast two leveled spells in a turn through action surge.

I feel that I need to play devil's advocate for the player in the first story with the love intresst.
Given how invested the player was in making his npc love intresst it should have clued the dm in that it was important to the pc.
For the dm then to turn around and make the npc an agent of an evil faction and opponent to the party could be seen as twisting it into something it should not be in the pc's eyes.
Some may like the conflict and potential for a redemtion arc for that npc especially if they are a love intresst but if it is handled badly or sprung on them with little warning it sends a message to the players not to trust things in their backstory or trust the dm with sensitive character info.
It's can be like writing about a pc's fear of something in the past only for it to keep coming up time and again to torment them just because the dm knows that it will have an affect on the pc.
In the follow up I can make an argument for the player not wanting to give any info to the dm so as to not give them more ammo to hurt their pc with, it's the kind of behavior that can led to players making pcs that are orphans and dont care for anything but this own survival willing to throw anyone els under the buss and never trusting any npc they meet as any interraction is just an opening to hurt them with.
The op could very well be the bad guy in another horror story without knowing it.

"You need a character": I'm very guilty of working at the last minute on a character, but at least I'd have the decency to accept that the GM has a point in not letting me in if I take too long. And this is a one-shot; you don't need a long-winded character thesis, just a general concept and a quick write-up.
"Just Some Advice": Yeah, artists live off their commission work, so asking them to do stuff for free is insulting. You don't ask your buddy the plumber to fix your sink for free unless you're BFFs. Plus, a "girl" knowing more about game development than him setting him off is funny, even if it did bring out his worst behavior yet. I just want him to choke on the idea a "girl" knows more about what's clearly his dream job (though he'll clearly never actively do anything to advance that dream, he just expects it to fall into his lap). Also even if it is his passion project, he's clearly not good at it.
"Just Murderhobo Things": I'd say both sides were at fault here. The DM for putting a few strong barriers, but mostly the party for just trying to go loco even though they were warned. I'd say mostly a problem of player/DM mismatch. Hopefully both sides get the party/DM they deserve.
"Just Pick Me": ...I think the "Pick Me" girl was just there because she wanted a date, and had quite a few issues. She was just at the table to flirt with people, as she didn't seem focused or concentrated on the game, even before the breakup.

Most of us where talking about stuff like means of hiding the fact we used magic and taking stealth magics and the like .... I think it was gastault so we could have other classes too but we where SUPER underpowered and at best people wanted to kill us at worst they wanted to scoop our brains out and use us as starship engines. First story: bruhhh the idea of a samurai and a spy falling in love is so epic! I would have jumped on that immediately!
Think of all the possibilities! A clash of both cultures and ideals which brings them ultimately closer!
The spy starts out hostile, wanting to steal an item from the party but it doesn't work so they are forced to cooperate with the party instead! By working together now and being roped into the shenanigans of the party they naturally have to spend time with the samurai - countless ideal opportunities for rp!
If you want to make it real spicy? Have the samurai hand the item over a magic item that the spy was planning on stealing from them! "So you're just... Giving it to me?" "Yes, of course." "But why?" "You asked for it no? It would be disrespectful to deny your request when I have no need for it in the first place." "Are you not concerned what I might do with it?" "Hm, perhaps a little. But I wish to trust you regardless. There is no honor in pointless conflict."
    Just think of it! Arghhhh!

      @leila13dnd Год назад

And then the spy slowly opens up about her past and her goals and kind of starts idealizing the samurai, because ha, there he goes, Mr. Perfect "I am the epitome of honor and chivalry".
But the samurai also opens up, maybe he loses an important fight or doesn't manage to kill a certain enemy so they get away. And he blames himself for it! Laments how disappointed his parents/clan/teacher must be, that he still fails when it matters the most!
And the spy realised that oh, this man had to fight tooth and nail for every one of his achievements. He had to work hard to get where he is and he continues, because he holds himself to this incredibly high standard that seems impossible to reach, yet he still manages to do it time and again.
And the spy sits next to him like "Nonono, none of this is your fault. You're wonderful, kind and caring and the most honorable man I know."
And she realises. Oh no. I think I'm falling for him.
And you see she has this magic item that really helps with tracking people or helps people get stronger through tough training, and she really doesn't know what go do with the thing because it's just collecting dust, if only she had someone who would take it off of her.
And the samurai is surprised because "Are you trying to help me?" "What? Psh no, not at all. I told you I just don't need it, really. You can have it, if you want."
And of course he does take it and he smiles, oh he smiles so warmly and genuinely (has anyone ever looked at her like that before? She's not sure) and for the first time in what feels like forever, she feels good about giving something away. He thanks her and promises to put it to good use, but really to her it doesn't matter at all. Knowing you made someone happy is intoxicating enough as it is.
He goes out to catch the suspect, defeat the enemy, rectify his mistake, whatever it is. And it works. At first he struggles, because even though he is thankful for the help it can be hard to accept help for problems that you believe are solely yours to solve. But he remembers how happy she was when he took it, quietly, trying to hide it, thinking he wouldn't notice. And so he uses it and he achieves his goal.
And when he returns he thanks her again, his demeanor both softer but also more confident, and he wants to give it back.
"Oh it's alright, you can keep it." says the spy (or perhaps she can no longer be called one). And in her newfound bravery born from missing someone in a way she didn't know she was capable of, she asks "Perhaps you could take me out to dinner instead?"
      The samurai agrees.
Yeah I definitely have to make this an entire story now, AHHHHH-
