    I just bought Espace Initiale few days ago (same engine, color, same equipment) and it's beyond amazing. Design, interior quality, and driving comfort are fantastic. If you want big luxury family car, but don't want or can't afford BMW X5 or Volvo XC90, I believe this is the car to get. The only downside I can find is the consumption which is a bit high from my perspective (10L/100km for short urban commutes). I know it's a big heavy car, but still.

      @@redwhite_040 Me too. I saw the Espace, very impressive design but you can not compare it with extra space of the Galaxy.
      I have heard some bad things about the automatic transmission gearbox of the Galaxy, i don't know if it's true or not. For the RENAULT diesel engine 1.6 everybody say that is very reliable.

    Another thing in terms of practicality. If you want to sit on the 3rd row, from where would you want to enter? From the boot or from the rear doors? I guess it would be the second. So if they are folded from where would you want to unfold them? Would you first want to open the boot like in the Grand C4 Picasso and then get in from the rear doors or simply be able to unfold the seats from the rear doors where you get in? I guess it's the second too. So here the Espace is really a lot more practical and the extremely laborious unfolding system in the Grand C4 Picasso (which is copied from the Peugeot 5008) isn't brilliant at all.

  • @RolandAshcroft

    I own a 2006 2.2dci Espace, I love that car when it comes to elegance, practicality and comfort. It does not have good acceleration and handling. I was thinking about picking up an Espace5 in the coming years, but since my car is not only for personal transportation, I really dislike that you can't remove or turn seats around in the new Espace.

    Saying that french design is not ergonomic or not logic and not user centrered is just a stupid statement. You are free not to like french people, but try to control yourself in your video when you test a french car. We could start douting of your impartiality ! lol And above all, it prevent french people - like me (I'm sorry) - to hear "without pain" your observations and analyzes. But beyond that and for historical reasons, I think it is not even a little bit fair. Although Renault's designers made few mistakes in term of ergonomy in the last renault Espace, it doesn't mean french design is crap. You shouldn't forget all that has been created since 1984 and the first espace which was the first at its time to be so user centered and so ergonomic. There are thousands of other examples in the french car industry.
    I think you'd rather use your sense of humor (that, like many viewers, I appreciate) to try gathering viewers instead of mocking (for no reason) a little part to please another. BR

That s why we must create "powerful" engines which don't pollute too much (downsizing is the solution)

  • @Antoineforum

    Goog reveiw but It is not accurate to say "the French". Talking about Renault engineers or simply "Renault" instead of would be better. The design director is Dutch, the manager of the multimedia systems Spanish, like many many others.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 лет назад

      Yes, I know. It's like talking about Fiat 500, which is actually made in Poland, but you'd probably say "it's a nice little Italian city car".
      In case of PSA and Renault there is something I'd call the prevailing French corporate philosophy, which may not be so obvious looking at it from inside (i.e. from France), but is very apparent from the outside. It's as if whoever runs the company knows best, and if clients have a problem with it, they should learn this is the proper way to it. But this goes beyond the actual product. For a journalist trying to use French car media sites is like learning to work on a Minitel after using smartphones and tablets :) There is this arrogance towards the rest of the world. Maybe it's a French corporate thing. It is in complete contradiction to liberté, égalité, fraternité.

    • @Antoineforum
      @Antoineforum 8 лет назад +1

      Marek Drives. Thanks for your reply Marek. The French population is so mixed up, with so many different origins nowadays, i do not understand this concept of "arrogance". I guess it's mostly a "cliché". It may be surprising from the outside but the French often see themselves as a small country, with little influence, little capacities... Whether they make good or bad cars has nothing to do with what they are. Some firms are capable of the best and others of the worst. It is more a question of organization, specific to the firms than nationality or culture.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 лет назад

      Maybe it's the car companies then :)
      I owned a Peugeot for 12 years, and was very happy with it, so it's not like I hate French cars, because they are French brands. But I feel there a bit of opposition towards everything that may be associated with the Anglo-Saxon way of life, and this may be projected subconsciously. Or maybe I'm just paranoid :)

    • @Antoineforum
      @Antoineforum 7 лет назад

      Marek Drives Of course I know you do not hate Renault, Peugeot, Citroën or DS because they are french, i never thought that ;-)
      I'm just trying to say that one company does not represent a whole country. Furthermore Renault does not have the same philosophy as PSA and it is difficult to find any common feature between them.
      Well i'm not fluent in English ok but I do not understand why we talk about the Anglo-Saxon way of life now ? Perhaps another "cliché" ;-)

    • @AnthonyMcBazooka
      @AnthonyMcBazooka 8 лет назад

      When I tried to sit in the Grand C4 Picasso I always hit my head on the sun shades at the windscreen when they were pulled back completely. Also there are really a lot of issues with the electronics. Renault at least fixed the first issues by now. And I don't trust PSA's diesel engines anymore. My GF had a C4 Picasso with a 1.6 HDi and it exploded after 3 years just like that. There were no obligingness at all from the dealer (warranty period was over so they didn't give a f*ck). First I thought it may have been a single case but I read a lot of stories like that in forums, many dealers tried to blame the drivers with assumptions like they put petrol in a diesel engine or something like that. So that may be the reason for the better price. I heard they changed something about the engines since then. But the worst thing really is how Citroën deals with the customers after such issues. And these of course are things you can't notice in a 2-week test drive. Also speaking of practicality, I think the first Grand C4 Picasso was a lot more practical than the new one (and much better looking too but that's subjective): more and better storage places and a cockpit with a bit more than just two screens. The stuff on the cockpit should be for the driver and not to entertain the kids in the back seat, so maybe the C4 Picasso is just a bit too family friendly now.

    • @mariokajin
      @mariokajin 8 лет назад

      +Anthony McBazooka Thanks mate. :) Really appreciate your point of view. See the opposite is my/my friend experience. He had to change three engines 1.5 litre dci. On the other hand my coworker had no issues at all. My other coworker had no issues with his C4 grand Picasso. After 150000 km only regular maintenance. Where I'm from Peugeots have bad service reputation. And just for a fun fact my boss have Alfa Romeos almost his entire life and not single one had issues. But he's servicing them in Italy. At some Alfista shop. Thanks anyway and have a nice time.

    • @AnthonyMcBazooka
      @AnthonyMcBazooka 8 лет назад

      Which engine on the C4 Picasso? The 2.0 litre HDi doesn't have the same problems as far as I know, it's a downsizing problem. 1.5 dCi weren't that good, as well as the 1.9 dCi (120 HP) and 2.2 dCi (150 HP). But the 1.6 dCi should run for a lifetime if you don't mistreat it.
      About the price of the two cars, at least here in France you won't get a lot of money for a used C4 Picasso anymore so I think if you plan to sell your car after a few years, the Espace is the better deal. People will love to buy it because all issues with the electronics from the beginning are fixed until then (as far as I know the last RLink2 update to version 2 fixed all the common issues) and after that it is, as Marek said, “a brilliant car”. It's the same with the BMW Series 2 Gran Tourer, it may seem expensive but it really won't lose much of its value in the time you drive it. But these things can vary in different countries.
      I think the most interesting competitor will be the new Grand Scénic. Or if you like more SUV style than MPV for a family, the Mitsubishi Outlander (the 7 seater diesel, not the PHEV) is also a lot of car for less money than the Espace. The Nissan X-Trail could be too if the third row of seats wasn't completely useless for people taller than 1,40 m (Marek didn't test the 3rd row, I think he wouldn't even have tried, it is so difficult for an adult to even access them and then the seats are just a few cm above the floor - in comparison you'll sit like a king in the Outlander's back seats).
