- Israeli singer Eden Golan has qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest after a public vote.
Her victory came hours after thousands of pro-Palestinian protestors gathered in the streets of Malmö, Sweden, where the contest is being held, to show their support for Gaza.
The night before, the 20-year-old singer had been booed during dress rehearsals. There was a mixture of cheering and booing again during Thursday's semi-final.
Israel's participation in Eurovision has been a source of controversy amid rising civilian deaths and a worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, after Israel launched a response to Hamas' cross-border attack on southern Israel on 7 October.

First and foremost, I have struggled with how we are to support artists as well as athletes who are from countries whose governments and militaries are committing war crimes against the children, adults, and elderly of the countries being invaded. I think that it is a humanitarian position to not allow an artist nor an athlete who is from a country whose government is committing war crimes and who has made the decision to be a representative of that country into an international event. Being a representee may reflect that they may be accepting/supportive of the war crimes being committed. If they choose to solely represent the art or the sport or themselves (e.g., without reference to their country) with a clear announcement of their contentions towards the actions of their government(s), then they ought to be permitted to compete in any international event. 🌸

• Taking or executing hostages is a war crime
If a civilian object is used for military purposes it becomes a valid military target. If an attack on a valid military target results in civilian casualties it isn’t a war crime
