I lived in Da Nang, Vietnam for 1.5 years during the pandemic. It turned out one of the best places to get stuck at that time. I didn't like it at first - all the incessant motorbike beeping drove me nuts. Then I got a better place, 5 minutes from the beach, and lived like a local. Of course, a few months in I didn't want to leave. Then they kicked all of us tourists out - had enough of us he he. I miss Vietnam and will be coming back soon. Made some good friends there. Fond memories...
@@johnalex5466 I was lucky to have stayed there till July '21, and that's when all hell broke loose there, as I've heard. But before Covid had really hit, it was the best place to be. I’m happy to help anyone learn anything I have knowledge about. Currently English is the international language of diplomacy, and as such it’s beneficial for non-native English speakers to learn English. But I derive less satisfaction from the actual ‘helping people learn English’ as I do from helping people grow in general. I’m in a uniquely qualified position to teach English to Vietnamese people as I’m an apt native speaker of English, and I’ve been here long enough to understand the nuanced difficulties that native Vietnamese speakers face when learning English. But overall I’m just happy to help people live a better life in general. If that’s teaching them English, that’s great. If that’s making RUclips videos that encourage people to travel and expand their horizons, that’s fantastic too. I hope that my brief presence here on Earth can bring as much joy and happiness to others as possible.

@@prunecuda1 yes, I am in the process of applying for my Vietnamese passport. I’ve been retired in VN for a year already, and I absolutely LOVE it here. I’ve also had the opportunity to scout out a few coastal towns like đà Nẳng, Phân Thiếc, Nhà Trang, & Quy Nhơn (am a beach person). I chose VT for now due to its proximity to Saigon. it is not that difficult to move here, especially if you can still speak & read the language, and willing to be a minimalist, so you can travel light. I am currently renting a 1 bedroom condo within 10 min walk to the beach, and has a full, direct view of the beach off my 19th floor balcony for less than $300/month, including all utilities, private wifi, & management fee. I’ve managed to pare down my life into 3 suitcases, and the rest are in storage tubs in my sister’s garage back in the US. I have no desire to own any furniture nor pets, so I can have the freedom to solo travel as much or as little as I like.
I'm from Vietnam and I really appreciate your spirits and positivity in Vietnam!, There's maybe a really heaty sweaty day but you can cool down in some public pool or fun water park, my favorite one is "Dam Sen Nuoc" where you can enjoy going in waterslide tubes, and fun activities, there's a place for action too! which the price around 10-13$ for a whole day! an option for escaping the Sai Gon: 1) Cần Giờ beach (no, it ain't Venice beach, CA) 2) hopping on a bus to the mile high city Da Lat (the city has a university, but not sure about the hiring situation).
PSA for english teachers in vietnam. (1) the number one tool for bad students are the parents. they hate to pay and have their kid act up in class...(2) also, the students respect the teacher. in viet culture, a teacher is one notch below the parents (family) in terms of respect. (3) you don't feel like you just got slap with every pay period. hello, USA. thanks, for the vid. cheers all.
As a Vietnamese living in the U.S, I agree with you on everything. I used to teach high school French in Miami. Almost all of my students were very unruly and disrespectful . I quit after 2 years because the salary was lousy, and teaching wasn't my passion.

I too have been living in Vietnam for 5 years and I agree with everything you said -- especially the part about Saigon being too %#*@ hot. I moved to Dalat, which is a bit of a compromise, but it's still a great life --- and cool!
The weather of Ho Chi Minh city is like San Antonio, Texas. You go or stay South. You definitely feel heat from the sun. Ho Chi Minh city and any cities locate at the equator is bound to feel heat from the sun.
15:35 That's a good point you mentioned. It happened to my friend. I was with him in a store. The local seller was kind of angry when he didn't understand my friend's unaccented English. He turned to me and asked:" What does he want to buy?".
This happened in America? It’s sad how impatient people can be sometimes, especially when people are trying their best to do something brave like communicate in a different language
Been to Vietnam 7 times since 2017. Last trip was 2023. Everything you mentioned was true. One other negative (although it doesn’t bother me) is locals will give you the “tourist” price if you appear western. For example a dollar extra for a beer or a couple of extra dollars for a taxi. Like I said I really don’t care but for some people it’s a big deal.
We prefer cool weather. We wonder if Dalat May be a good choice ? I grew up in Florida and never got used to the awful heat n humidity. We are traveling to many countries over the next 5-10 years, looking for our favorite retirement city. We are traveling between Mexico and Argentina and currently living in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Our total costs here run about $1100/month for both of us all in.
Dalat definitely has cooler, less humid weather. It's a smaller, relatively more isolated town, so if you prefer big city attractions that may be something to consider. With the current cost of rentals being a bit high in Saigon at the moment, $1100 for two people may work but it may be a little bit tight. You could also consider living in Danang which would be cheaper overall. Good luck with your travels and I hope you enjoy yourselves. If you're interested in some Mexico travel content, I have some of that on my channel from last year. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting.
@@BigTimeBentley We really just want to stay under $2000/month. $1100 is just an average of what we are currently spending here in Nicaragua….our lifestyle is just very cheap here. Yes, I will check out your Mexico content. Thx very much !

You should check out Malaysia, we got much much more activities that you can find at reasonable cost of living. For food and coffee, you should try Malaysia food and coffee, then your statement may change. About cost of living, USD1.5 to 2k then you can live comfortably.

You're on point with all your reasons. However, I just want to add to your reason 4 in term of eating food in VN. Food poisoning does happen but the main reason for people having upset stomach is the probiotic that you ingest here is different so it's just a matter of building a comparable one over a period of time.
this is true. I once got very sick from street about two months after I moved here from food poisoning. But after I recovered from that, I've been fine eating street food
I feel like i am more in Hanoi than Saigon..since all I want is to travel and eat. I feel like Saigon is a big city that i need to walk around to eat. Unlike in Hanoi you walk outside hostel and food is in every steps

I have no desire to own any furniture nor pets, so I can have the freedom to solo travel as much or as little as I like.
thanks for sharing, nice to hear your good experience in my home town!
Cheers I'm happy to be here
Your reviews on living in Vietnam are pretty much accurate to me as overseas Vietnamese…
Cheers thank you!
Anyway, thank you for the positive review and I hope you have a good day!
Thanks very much for the comment. I've never been to Dam Sen but I've driven past it many times. Glad you liked the video.
This was very interesting. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
an option for escaping the Sai Gon:
1) Cần Giờ beach (no, it ain't Venice beach, CA)
2) hopping on a bus to the mile high city Da Lat (the city has a university, but not sure about the hiring situation).
Thankz for the humbleness. Subscribed.
Great one! Still laughing about your street food sick adventures. 👍🙂
Haha it’s worth the one-off sickness for years of future delicious adventures
PSA for english teachers in vietnam. (1) the number one tool for bad students are the parents. they hate to pay and have their kid act up in class...(2) also, the students respect the teacher. in viet culture, a teacher is one notch below the parents (family) in terms of respect. (3) you don't feel like you just got slap with every pay period. hello, USA. thanks, for the vid. cheers all.
Cheers for the comment and thanks for watching! You really do have a respected job as a teacher in Vietnam.
As a Vietnamese living in the U.S, I agree with you on everything. I used to teach high school French in Miami. Almost all of my students were very unruly and disrespectful . I quit after 2 years because the salary was lousy, and teaching wasn't my passion.
Very good points!!! Thanks
you're very welcome
you can go to Dalat to escape the hot season in Saigon ! Dalat has wealthier temperature similar to the bay area!
yeah I've been to Dalat once the weather was nice!
I enjoyed your video first, and more importantly ,I am not fluent in English but still able to understand.
Glad you liked it!
Wow, Tyler. I really like watching your RUclips videos, now. You are not uploading your video fast enough for me to watch. That’s why I am just watching your older videos. I find this this video very interesting and all the things you mentioned about Viet Nam are very true. Viet Nam needs more expats like you with good personality and very down to earth individual. Please upload more videos, Tyler 😂
Cheers I’ll keep them coming!
@@BigTimeBentley oh by the way Tyler, why did you choose to teach English in Viet Nam, but not Thailand, Philippine and etc…?
Vietnam is a beautiful country! I saw much of the country during long range patrols, during the war. I currently live in Costa Rica. 🏖 Keep in mind, there are so many cheaper countries to live in, other than Vietnam.
cheers to you! Which other countries are cool and lower budget? I'm always interested in new places to travel/move to
Excellent job great content and I fo. I am really thinking this might be for me. I can't afford the USA any longer
Hugely helpful video. 🎉
Glad it was helpful!
Vietnam is so lucky a lot of USA brand company are relocating in Vietnam a lot of job are available now
lots of economic growth lately
Thank you😊
if you live in NY this is an 100% upgrade😄
Absolutely, I live on Long Island, but work in all 5 boroughs, lifelong New Yorker but it’s a dump now and I can’t wait to leave
So modern place! Cool
cheers!
Great video
Thank you! Appreciate it!
Great video man .Keep up the good post
Thank you and will do
im glad i saw this video first on Vietnam because i can take it off my list. I cant stand heat and humidity. Especially for so many months. Man how could you stand it. Thats literally half the year.
Those soups look delicious!
They’re very good! Mi Quang is my favorite. Not sure if it qualifies as a “soup” or not but it’s definitely dank
I never get food sick in Vietnam but twice in Thailand 😅 - im from the Philippines
You should've put Phú Quốc island as your next destination. You won't be disappointment
Somewhere I need to check out
Please try not to show filthy beaches.
@@Uncoeurdailleurs filthy Beach is cause by people no matter what country your from. Phu Quốc Island has few peoples every travel to it because they don't know its existed
I just filled up my 4Runner for $99.97 for 20 gallons at Costco in Orange County which is cheaper than any where in LA.
Thank you for the pro's and some con's, been enjoying my trips to VN since 2017. Interested in the TOFEL course, much appreciated for the link. Will eventually retire up in the highlands, Buon Ma Thoat or Da Lat area.
Cheers, happy to make the video. If you end up signing up for the course, it would be helpful if you let Ninja teacher know that Tyler Bentley referred you as I'd receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. Best of luck to you!
Ho Chi Minh city and any cities locate at the equator is bound to feel heat from the sun.
most definitely hotter the closer you are to the equator
You didn’t mention safety in Vietnam 🇻🇳. It’s a very safe place comparing to the US
agreed
US now should be on red alert country 😂 & their sh.itty gover.nment
I am coming next month to Vietnam, I am retired but I am very interested in becoming an English teacher.
Excelente video parcero, saludos de un colombiano 🎉🎉🌎⚔️
Muchísima gracias amigo
@@BigTimeBentley
We really just want to stay under $2000/month. $1100 is just an average of what we are currently spending here in Nicaragua….our lifestyle is just very cheap here.
Yes, I will check out your Mexico content.
Thx very much !
@@therehastobesomethingmoore $2000 a month should be fine here especially outside of HCMC
@@BigTimeBentley
Being there over 5 years…does that mean you do visa/border runs every 3 months ? Thx
Great video!!!
cheers thank you
Just subscribed. Where is video on dating in Vietnam?
I have't made a video about that yet
I was there 2022. And i am going back
nice!
Thank you for your video bro. You give great content to the inquisitive minds. Every question I asked myself, you answered. Like how much is it to live there and move country to country. Great job from a newbie ✌️
Cheers I’m glad you liked it!
I love how the sweat pool is growing under your neckline as the video rolls on, then you mention the heat hahaha
haha speakin the truth
Thank you for the informative video. How safe is it for a female to travel alone in Vietnam?
Hi, Im from germany and want to go to Vietnam for a few months next year. It is possible to get Visa longer than 30 days, right? And: you learned the language by staying there over the years? Greetings
Check online to make sure but from what I've heard there are now 90 day tourist visas available for many countries. And yes I learned the Vietnamese that I know from staying here over the years
You should check out Malaysia, we got much much more activities that you can find at reasonable cost of living. For food and coffee, you should try Malaysia food and coffee, then your statement may change. About cost of living, USD1.5 to 2k then you can live comfortably.
I've been to Kuala Lumpur back in 2018 but it's been a good while since I've been to Malaysia. Maybe time for a revisit
I went to Hanoi in 2012 and Vietnam is the country I am longing for to go back again. Maybe 2025.
I dont want to go back again in HK, Thailand (been to Phuket and Bangkok), Kuala Lumpur Malaysia twice.
Vietnam is a great place. Hanoi is a cool city
Good luck
thank you
nice talk
Thank you
You're on point with all your reasons.
Thank for the video but i coudent find the school.
Message me directly on instagram
No thanks-LA, Orange County, Florida and SF are my favorites
I feel like i am more in Hanoi than Saigon..since all I want is to travel and eat. I feel like Saigon is a big city that i need to walk around to eat. Unlike in Hanoi you walk outside hostel and food is in every steps
it sounds impressive he says "cà phê sữa đá"
can you hear within it a vowel which English don't use ?
it is the one in "sữa"
"ưa" = "ươ" = "a vowel which English don't use"

Is the humidity just like Florida or worse?
Recently I'm deciding on Danang Vietnam.. Had a great time every time I've been there and super friendly people even 30 or 40 year younger young ladies super nice invite me to dinner.. Love the beach and visited lady Buddha several times gotta have a rented motorbike Or just use grab car
** I do have a disability that requires me to consume larger amounts of dialysis Solution 12 leaders per day.. This it's critical to never run,out So I'm looking for the supplier there but I don't know any drug store that are big.. Any advice Is much appreciated
🙏🙏
Danang is a great place. Very relaxed vibes and friendly people. I don't have any specific advise on dialysis solution.
What's the background song you were using?
Enjoyed your video,, I’m wondering do you need a college degree to become a English teacher in Vietnam or can you just take the ninja 4 week course
The policies change rather frequently but go ahead and reach out to Ninja teacher directly and they can provide you with the most up to date requirements. They are very friendly and helpful. Thanks for watching the video and I'm glad you liked it.
Hi fen I Vietnamese live in Chicago us
I live in th US and every day I get email scam and teller marker scam and its very annoying. But in the past I get towing scam, taxi scam, car repair scam, and even hotel scam when the hotel host get your debit card number while checking in. And make a separate personal charge using your debit card number online. This happen in the great USA. My lost with US moneys is way more than the Vietnamese Dong that you lost.
It depends where u move from! i am retired in Thailand & so Vietnam would not be that much different!
Can you open a bank as a digital nomad there?
Yes move to Vietnam for 1 month
Damn...you can watch your shirt get sweat soaked in real time as the video progresses.
Dry at first. Wet at the end. Thats nuts!
Haha the humidity got me. In fairness I was out there for about an hour and change at noon in the sun
