Meeting the butcher in Diablo1 made me piss my pants back in the day. I still remember how much I struggled against him.😅
We all struggled and ran away.
Yeah tough early fight, I thought leoric was tougher just because I would get mobbed on by all the skeletons and couldn't get away.
Especially if you're playing multiplayer by yourself. Mobs have like 2x more hp and do more damage. You have to cheese the butcher and hope you find a good mace for Leoric to stunlock him.
Then any time you found the room, you cleared the level and came back to it.

It charges when you are far away. You can avoid it with reaction time.
I love their shield block mechanic

Wish they'd get the diablo 1 butcher atmosphere
Extremely hard to do with modern standards. It only worked so great because of the "bad graphics" imo. Hardshadows, not being able to see everything around you.
D1 will be forever the darkest and grittiest game from the diablo series probably.

Absolutely agree. Modern graphics make theme and atmosphere really hard to pull off. This is why I thought Breath of The Wild looked "better" than Horizon zero dawn. As far as horror goes I think Resident Evil gets the atmosphere right despite realistic visuals, RE7 and RE2 Remake in particular

I fought the butcher for the first time literally about 2 or 3 minutes before the beta ended this afternoon, and I had absolutely no idea how hard he was gonna be as I’d played almost 25 hours of the beta at this point and never had a boss anywhere near this hard and I literally was down to just a tiny sliver of health and no more health potions when I beat him and I was legit getting pissed lol but sure enough I conquered him and now I know exactly how hard he’s and it’s crazy I’ve been max level 25 for a while and like I said I never fought a boss anywhere near this hard until him and I was getting mad cause I almost died but it is what it is !
Brooo.. i cant wait to fight him again. His health is gonna tick so hard from my traps
This is actually one of my favorite parts of the game so far: actually perceiving these bosses as a threat.
Easily the best part of D4 are the challenge spikes. Ashava, butcher, legion events, compounds, etc. The things that have extra monsters and are "static" in difficulty above your character level are REALLY good. Excited for the rest of the game...

Butcher is one of my least favorites honestly cus you can't really outrun it properly once you encountered it. I love the high threat, but you can't beat it and you can't outrun it so on a HC char you just gotta get lucky enough to never find him or you gotta reset your entire dungeon to get rid of him. Don't get me wrong, I love how scared he makes me, but either make him beatable or confine him to an area but don't make a diceroll of "we decided you're dead now"

As a new player to Diablo, coming from a background of old school fallout/baldur’s gate I’m loving this game, can’t wait for the full game! Glad I got to lvl 20 for that wolf cosmetic, now to decide between Druid or Necromancer first…

I've heard tons of people complaining about the butcher being too hard. I really hope they don't change him at all. I love that he is random, imposing and a real threat to most players, as it should be.
Players are super used to win every fight nowadays... Most think that a boss that takes 1-2 minutes to kill was a super epic fight even when their hp never dropped at all. However those who played D1 and 2 probably recognize all of that monsters out there that made u shit your pants as soon as you saw them.
I'm glad we're back to this kind of enemies. I didn't play beta as much as I wanted but I already faced a couple enemies that were REALLY hard to beat (one I never killed him at all) and I still had lots of fun. This is the way to go.

ive killed him with my rogue but it was very very close to death xD he run at you and dont give up until he kill you... ive run and dash in all the map until ive finally kill him making me an legendary ring... but that was the most difficult mob ive seen in the beta :D

That's how games look now. Don't you remember Azshara raid in wow few years ago? Top 1 raid officially announced IT WAS TOO HARD AND UNPLAYABLE to Blizzard made it literally one-handed dungeon, you could use your second hand to jerk off. Who cries about difficulty the most? New, teenage players, because they are real players now. We - veterans are only 1%, nobody cares about our thoughts
I love that he's a rare difficult spawn now. It must be tough to beat him.
but he'll just randomly spawn and instantly insta gib a hardcore char if you come across him, you basically get your char instantly deleted on x chance all cause of bad luck, hardcore andies are gonna hate it over time
@@josephnolan6323 he despawns if you just run away from him for a while. If you only want to go forward, press attack button and pray hc may punish you.

I can tell you, being melee with this designs is freaking insane. Yes, you can respec and try to get over the hurdle, but compared to that, long range attacks seemed so much easier when i used the sorc. I hope they give melee chars a bit more survivability or some tools. Not sure if its because its early game and we have little item options, but some bosses where crazy as a melee.

@@Killer99215 i think you misunderstood. Before you pump yourself up thinking "I'm good gamer", I didn't mean make it less difficult, I meant having variety. I have a 25 berserker and an 18 sorcerer. As a sorcerer, the bosses have been a whole lot easier to burst down. Theres no variety if youre pushed to have long range characters over melee focused characters. I should have some bosses that are more difficult to beat as a sorc than a barb, and vide versa
Yeah some of the bosses are too easy to kite. I think with the butcher that ightn to be as big of an issue as he charges you and hooks you back if you try to kite away from him.
As for melee, I think it's more of a gear issue. Once we have proper gear at end game we won't be as squishy.
Well I'm playing a Sorc and the butcher literally took me to 20% life in one hit, then he stunned me, and I was dead. I get what you mean but the Butcher is meant to be incredibly strong
@@ownagebox that is true, but in my experience, as a berserker, your 9nly difference is that you survive for an extra 5 or 6 hits. The difference? The sorc van still try to dish out damage while the berserker cannot. I dont think its extra super easy as the aorc, what I mean is that the basic design of the game, as far as I have played, seems to be with mechanics more favorable to ranged characters. I wish for the strategies to be a bit more mixed.

if you hear "fresh meat" in hardcore RUN
usually in d1 you would bring him to 1 door, (his room was obv different like with... corpses? blood?) close the door cause he couldn't open it and range him lol
You can also cheese him by running to the stairs to the next room. If you run around the stairs a bit, after a while he tends to get stuck on the stairs while you're on the other side. Then just range him down to death. :D

The butcher in Diablo 4 now doesn't spawn in 1 place. He can show up Many different places. Its random, you are playing, and suddenly you hear familiar sounds before... butchered.
The butcher is a random spawn and either you kill him or he kills you. He was already super hard before with high dmg and alot of movement speed so you had to spam flasks to kill him. Now with alot more health hes kinda imba until you have a real gear setup but atleast he will drop minimum two legs. Yes the real fun is when he spawns in a high nightmare dungeon while having 3 elites, the nightmare specific debuff, only 5 deaths/trys and alot of trash nearby.
EZ, whirlwind build, constant health from the trash :D Solo'd him this morning doing this exact thing. Proper gear setup full of legendaries which is mandatory to kill him but it's very doable, you just have to be on point.

Im glad he's just a rare encounter instead of a main bad guy again. Would be really repetetive.
Nah... he's iconic, being the most renowned Overlord serving under Mephisto. And of course being most Diablo fan's first encounter with a frightening boss in the franchise.
What was missed here, was an opportunity to finally create an insanely disturbing gore arena for him with modern tech, harkening back to Diablo 1. Not this odd furnace he stood over in Diablo 3. But nah, just running into him in a random hallway like any other mob makes perfect sense.

Do we know he’s not a boss later on? Maybe he’ll be a boss in dlc or something.
Regular Overlords and other named Overlors are in the game. Butcher is an Invader like the console Nemesis and Dclone in D2. Replaces a unique in that map
I like it! He feels as powerful as the Diablo I Butcher, ah good memories. You just need two or three more levels and a good piece of gear and you can take him. Good old days strategies.
except with how they do the level scaling this time when you leveled up the butcher will level along with you and unless you managed to gear up you'll probably be even weaker after you leveled.
Sad too see they gave up on the door and personal butcher room with table and all the slaughterhouse equipment as ambience, it really gave an additional feel worth the effort of level designers and letting the players have that "ups I opened the wrong door" moment just to close the door and hope everything will be fine copium.
As mobs can now open doors in this game closing it won't matter!
He's like a rare spawn boss in dungeons now. I like that he's just there and fucks you up.

Nah it's perfect like that, because you never would expect him to be there. If you would have the ambience for it, some people might already expect it. I think it's nice
With a party of 3 it was hard, but doable. Since reviving refreshes pots we could have one kite while the others focused on damage or revival.

It’s like in classic wow you roll and hunter and spam volley on single target boss and complain why you are doing 831 dps.
Whirlwind is a trap skill. Need 75% of the screen filled with monsters for whirlwind to be semi viable at the moment. And remember you are not wearing a set that increases whirlwind damage by 13000%.
I fuckin had no chance. He ran right up on my Rogue out of no where and clapped me. I got in a few hits and that was it. I wasn't even mad tho, I was actually excited. I had a huge reaction and got excited. Threatening fights are great.
2 best first time Boss encounters in diablo series. Butcher in d1 and Duriel in d2.

@@macmccloud8171 It's alright I had fun. It'll be fun at full-release but usually the first 25 levels aren't really where the fun begins in a Diablo game. Lil bugs here and there but that's to be expected in the beta. Overall, as a sorceress I had no issue but I saw many barbs have troubles.

Fortunately, I was able to beat him solo a few hours ago....but he was standing right next to a damage buff pylon lol. Oh well, I'll take every advantage I can get since he killed me in a few seconds our first meeting.

Mother like 10 times😂 i couldnt stay up any longer snd had to get off for work. Even with two legendary pieces and lvl 14 couldnt get past half health smh. I hope it stays this challenging. I was using barbarian. Id rather it be harder to beat and u have to figure it out then be easy

Skill is not a factor. Either you've got the mathematical stats to beat something, or you don't. This is the Diablo way of combat. ChatGPT could probably be trained in a couple hours to play and beat any Diablo game. It feels like "playing" Diablo is just going through the motions of playing a tabletop D&D session, where you're not actually playing at all, you're just rolling the dice over and over. It's boring and Blizzard is clearly too lazy or scared to make the needed change to a combat system that actually provides benefits to skillful play.
To anyone who thinks the combat is great in Diablo I II III or IV, how asmon here could beat the Butcher? It's not like you can dodge every attack because of dodge cooldown, he could not block his attacks, so.... what's great about Diablo combat?
It's like any stupid RPG game where you die if your eq, level and build isn't good enough, because player skill doesn't matter.
It's wild how Blizzard does a cameo which is clear Fanservice. However we've got people in chat complainin about "reused" content and shit talking blizzards work.
Lol, I was playing with a friend last night and we fought him. Both of us were sorcerers and we both died at least 4-5 times before we finally managed to kill him. He was really tough!
My favorite part, I had no clue he was a random boss. I thought he was just another dungeon minion. Just with some girth.

I love diablo 1 because it was simple. No SPECIAL MOVES. Blizzard has a frustratingly annoying fetish for ultimates. I like the idea of a real trained guy who traverses deep Dark dungeons with only his wits and weapons. Very raw... ultimates or special spin moves really take me out of the vibe.... long story short 3 looks and acts like wow

I honestly think the butcher is maybe too OP while I managed to kill him with sorc (lvl 14) and rogue (20) (rogue took ages) he is immune to all crowdcontrol and pretty fucking aggressive, you get no chance to react. I think past lvl 20 you're pretty much fucket without some really good gear.
I encountered Butches 1st 3 times, died, only was able to kill him on 4th encounter. I don't mind him hard like that, but what are you suppose to do if you playing hardcore?
I tried this on a Wizard, i tell you, that was impossible... could never get distance, never had a chance to cast a spell
Will we have the butcher in diablo 6? Can blizzard stop recycling ideas from YEARS ago? half the mobs I've seen are re done models
I just wish they'd use the original voice line for "Ah....Fresh Meat", it was so much more scary than this "Diablo 3" style line

Everyone here in the comments talking about "a real threat" 🤦♂️ there's a difference between something being "hard" and just giving something a ton of hp and the ability to one shot you. Especially in a game with no dodge. Diablo is meant to be played like a Souls game.
This is like Hollywood nowadays, where they just go back to the old catalog and copy and paste. Hey guys, what was that boss that everybody liked in the beginning of the game? Let’s go play Diablo one and see. Hey, did you notice all of our enemies have really generic names how about we copy all of her old names bro that’s such a good idea. Honestly I think these people are so stupid We should probably be charging them twice the price. People literally don’t even care anymore that we don’t need good games. Just the fact that we have blizzard the name that’s all we need.
Ive beaten him both times. Once on lvl 38 druid and today with sorc level 42 both on veterans i havent unlocked the other difficulties unfortunately
He should stay like that and be a guarantee unique + legendary drop. Just give barb/druid a way of escaping him to not make hardcore players press alt+f4 after hearing „fresh meat”
I didn't have sound on but I was using a necromancer character and I barely killed him because he did atleast 25% of my health every single hit he did so I was running around letting my minions attack him
There is absolutely no escaping the butcher. I love that he absolutely slaps... but his gap closing ability feels a bit too much. Maybe that's the point though you either fight and die or you fight or die. Running seemed futile. I met him twice and the first time he wrecked me.
The second time he still wrecked me even though I was 25. But I managed to take him half way. I then teleported and tried booking it out of there. Even with my increased move speed and mobs boosting my speed and a second teleport. He still caught me and like two shot me. Fun fun... lol
They definitely need more of stuff like him in the game.

Yeah, don't play a barb on release, especially not HC W2, you'll definitely regret not being able so solo any dungeons until you're high enough level with defensives. Such bad balance for melee with rage lol

Still no improvement in the animations on the whirlwind, but people said it should be better. BOTH f-ing feet spin. They could at least make he have one foot on the ground when he spins. This looks so f-up and cheap.
I remember when I opened the door to meet the Butcher and all I did was cirlce that building crying my arse off at how long it took to kill him. All I did was kite and shoot, never stopping. I played ghetto games with him for nearly 20min till I killed him.
It all got better when I ran into that trash talking fallen named "Snotspit"... and blasted him lil butt.
i have faced him 12x, beaten him 9 times. you playing barb, really need iron skin maxed out to give you a temp protections against him

beaten it at second encounter, with my sorcerer with multiple shields absorbing damage, the hidra spitting fire and ice sparks that make him vulnerable
I think he should have His own room. The butcher Just Standing random in a floor doesnt feel right.

our group of 3 killed him 1st attempt. A lot of kiting and running around pillars lol took like 10 mins
The third time I encountered him I could beat him. One hell of a lot of kiting through the dungeon did the trick for me.
