people keep commenting about these dentists who didnt wear gloves back in the day when it wasnt as necessary as today. Pls refer to the disclaimer at the start of the video. Sheesh.
This film is at least 40 years old. By that time wearing gloves for non surgical procedures wasn't mandatory. The point is, that technique is executed very very poorly. The compound is never heated with torch because it can burn patients tissue. It should be heated by warm water. Secondly for edentelous cases the relief of the custom tray is contraindicated. Thirdly by the time the periphery impression is taken no holes should be present in the tray. The holes should be added later, just before the central impression is taken. This is a bad old school. I like the good old school. I would at least take off the name and the logo of University of Michigan.
Green compound can be heated by torch or by hot water bath (bath takes longer) but torch causes more smell and must be TEMPERED by the hot bather so as not to burn the patient. I personally like the hot water bath technique personally but don't mind the smell of burning green compound back in dental school days.
Btw, the dr.should have worn gloves at least!! Beside the fact it looks disgusting... being a " Doctor" where safety of infectious is in hands should have thought of hygiene himself if not for a poor patient!!!
