If you all could chill out in the comments that would be great. Saying "the accident was his fault" or "he's overrated" doesn't make you smarter than everyone. Respect the art and the drummer.
Best Def Leppard song is a rough question man, there's just too many, and huge evolution's in the sound of the band along the way.... Would have to say Bringin' on the Heartbreak was a great middle mark between the raw Leppard sound of the early years and the forthcoming Mutt Lange era. And you really can't go wrong with anything on Pyromania or Hysteria, the latter of which was essentially Rock and Roll's equivalent to the Thriller album. Great video and keep up the good work.
People should NEVER say that the accident was Rick’s fault! It was a bad accident. He doesn’t deserve criticism! He deserves sympathy. He is blessed to still be alive. I am so glad that he is. He is a damn good drummer to have one arm. Def Leppard is still my all-time favorite band. Rick, keep up the great work. You are very special! Peace.
On their tour in 2017, as a drummer myself, I paid to do the meet N greet with front row tickets. Earlier that year due to my disability I tried to commit suicide and almost succeeded but my wife found me, anyway, we were talking to the woman who takes your picture with the band about my failed attempt and she had tears in her eyes and said the guys need to hear this so she told me we had to go very last to meet them. Once it was my turn I overheard the woman tell them this is the guy, so I rounded the corner of the curtain and there the stood! Each one of the guys gave me a big hug, shook my hand and told me “glad your still with us!” I was in shock! At the end of the line was my hero, Rick Allen! As we got in line to take our pictures I asked Rick if I could put my arm around him he said of course and this was the best moment of my life! Once the pictures were taken, Rick stayed around talking to me for about 15-20 minutes where we talked about his accident, his meeting with the wounded warriors, and his foundation. I am eternally grateful for this experience and what a great group of guys they all are! This is a great video thank you for all your research it took to put this together!

God bless Rick Allen. And THANK YOU for NEVER throwing in the towel. I lost my left in 1987 due to a motorcycle accident. Being a drummer since I was holding a spoon, lol. I took Rick's idea and applied his concept to an ALL ACOUSTIC drum kit. My two 14X8 deep snares rest vertically in SIDEKICK snare drum stand cradles. Allowing me to use both my feet to represent my left arm when playing with my right arm on an upper snare for rudiments. On the kit, my floor lineup is from left to right....22" bass drum, snare, 22" bass drum, snare. Up top is 10" 12" 13" 14" 15" toms, and 16" 18" floors. Keeping my right arm extremely busy laying down some funk / rock grooves. Again....THANK YOU RICK ALLEN!!! WE PLAY TILL WE CAN'T PLAY ANYMORE!!! 🤘🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🤘
Fav drummer! And fav songs are bringin on the heartbreak and long way to go. 4th time seeing them last night and completely fell in love with def leppard all over again 😊

The last video I just watched was of Rick Allen talking about how he plays. In it, he said that he has played barefoot his entire life. He even went so far as to say that he would fall out of bed as a teen and just start playing, not even worrying if he has clothes on, let alone any type of shoes. He also compared playing drums with shoes on like trying to play guitar with boxing gloves on. In this video, you give the impression that he started playing barefoot after he lost his arm, which according to him is not the case. Great video. Very informative! "When love and hate collide" is my favourite tune.
Around 2:40 he also said Rick used to play with shoes on and started playing barefooted after his shoes started getting snagged sliding his foot from petal to petal. 🙄
I have a Def Leppard drum stick from the early 90's. My broither in law got it when it was thrown out into the audience after the concert.... He gave it to me and I've been a fan ever since!!
I've been a fan of Def Leppard ever since "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" came out in 1981. I know nothing about the technical terms related to drums. Thank you for explaining everything so clearly! This video is so interesting!

I've played Rick’s kit many years ago and being a double-bass drummer even I found I challenging playing it with one arm tied behind my back. Was a lot of fun.
His desire to overcome something that most drummers would’ve quit over is awe inspiring. Thank you SO much for doing this. Photograph is probably my #1 song by them. It has good memories attached.

Awesome video! Rick was one of the first drummers that got me started on drums. His passion for playing kept on even after the accident. He's an inspiration. I think my favorite song is still "Pour Some Sugar on Me" since it was the song on the radio that got me starting to listen to them in the 5th grade :).
IMAGINE being his tech back in the late 80s, dealing with fledgling technology or tech that didn't even exist yet. Necessity really is the mother of invention. I think without Rick Allen E-Drums aren't anywhere new where they are today.
I met Rick himself before at Las Vegas. He is a great and inspirational man. Thank you for making this video. 👍👌 :) and favorite song has to be Another Hit and Run
Hey Justin, I know this is a really old video (I watch all your current stuff as well), but thank you for putting this together. I wanted to try to recreate this configuration but I couldn't find a comprehensive list like this. This is very helpful.
Always loved Rick's drumming style before AND after his accident. I believe the technology of electronic drums saved his seat with the band as he is still able to translate his unique style to the music even after losing a limb! He's a drumming hero in my book and an inspiration to drummers with disabilities. Thanks Justin for this in depth behind the scenes look at his setup. I always wanted to know more about how he pulls it all off! Very cool.
I disagree. Watch some of the live video's from that era. With the help of modern technology and determination, anything's possible my friend! ruclips.net/video/t4-2b_LPgVw/видео.html
Peter Griffin Electric drums , to sum it up, he has certain short loops triggered too certain parts of his drums. It's just a little thing to help compensate. But pretty much everything is him playing. I cannot stand when a band plays to pre-recorded lyrics or anything like that, but I give Rick credit for even being able to trigger those loops in time, all the while keeping the rest of his playing in time.
mfournier01 The band was determined to find a solution for him to stay in the band. The electronic drums didnt save his seat in the band. The band saved his seat.
words can’t express the level of respect i have for Mr. Allen. i know it’s been said before, but this man truly does do with one arm what most can’t do with two.
Bringing On The Heartache is my Favorite Def Leppard Song! Rick Allen is one of kind and a awesome Drummer! Kudos to you and sharing this video , thanks.🇺🇸🎸✌🏿️
The man is an amazing drummer, artist and humanitarian. Also, a fun person to be around and very grounded. We discussed him decking his kit out with sunflowers. My favourite flower. He likes them as well.
There’s an interview where he says as a child he would get up in the morning in nothing but his shoes and his “tackle” and play his kit. He has always preferred to play without shoes, according to him even before his accident. In all his old videos you can see him with just shorts on and this was never a stunt for the cameras, just Rick being Rick. Great commentary, ton of respect for what you do and what Rick does as well.
Years I had wondered how he played with only right hand. Great demonstration of the details of the pedals used. A question answered after all these years.
People that beat the odds like Robert Downey Jr {not a drummer} and Steven Adler, just to name a few... Rick was number 1. Before his accident I was into heavy music and music videos in the early 80's. There were few traditional grip players in rock back in the day but Rick stood out. and when he lost his arm I thought that was it, luckily the technicians helped him were he can play again and that is so inspirational when he got back on his throne and never looked back. Man, I love a good comeback story!!!!!
rick allen has been a insperation to me. i'm handicapped and told i'd never do anything but seeing what rick did makes me feel like i can do anything i put my mind to. its hard to pick just 1 fav. tune but i would say animal.
I've met Rick many times while working in Guitar Center in Oxnard California. Such a nice person and incredible talent. I also saw him pre-accident on the Pyromania tour at the Forum! He was incredible! I was devastated when he lost his arm. I am so glad that he had the balls to keep going !! Truly inspirational
65 Drums - Thank you for that pinned response to the haters, I get so sick of people coming on to these pages and trashing an artist, you dont like a guy? Why are you watching videos of them? As for the accident, Rick has NEVER tried to play the victim over that accident, he was a young foolish man who was very tired from relentless touring and was just letting his hair down, luckily no one was killed. Now, about the drum kit - so here I was thinking I was all modern by adding some adjustable toms to my 5 piece lol! Man, I hope they pay their techs a LOT of money. He has to be a very accurate drummer, when I saw how close all those cymbals were and then you revealed they were high hats I was blown away. Keep on rockin Rick! Great video !!
Ron, right on! I am sick of those stupid, pathetic comments people leave. I remember hearing a song by bloodhound gang, and they took a jab at Rick Allen. Needless to say they got slammed by Def Leppard fans for that stupid song!
i was able to see def leppard's hysteria tour irvine meddows orange county ca i was 8th row it was a trip to see him play with one hand ,it seemed to me that hysteria was geared towards his one arm drumming .when they started to play rock of ages he was playing it like he had two hands the emotions in his face was incredable i never seen anyone crying that was that happy all i can say is wow
Def Leppard is my favorite band. Seen in concert 4 times!!! Shows were fantastic!! I have the utmost respect for Rick Allen and all he's been through. How he's adapted to all the challenges he faced. You are amazing. I love all your songs. Hysteria and Pyromania are my favorite albums. First album I ever heard was High and Dry. Mirror Mirror and Lady Strange favorite songs. Would love to see you guys perform again. Best wishes to all of you. You made the 80s the best years of my life!!!! Thanks!!
As a Musician with a Disability (Bassist/Chapman Stickist/Hack Guitarist/Hack Drummer once we stop renting! 😉) Rick was a *huge* influence on me starting to play when all my able-bodied friends were picking up Guitars around 13. And I didn’t pick up Bass because “it’s easier” but because I felt it in my bones, grew up listening to Entwistle, T. Levin, Geddy and many others. ...and I was the primary one to stick with it, go down the Original Band/Pro Cover Band/Sessions & Live Gigs and become a Semi-Professional Musician. And I own Rick a huge “thanks” for so much of it! 👍🏼 But favorite Def Lep song? A lot depends on which era, but overall I’d say “Rocket” - how he triggers loops and samples while keeping the beat is mind-blowing when you watch and listen closely.
A huge respect to Rick and all the guys from one of my favorite band-Def Leppard. A great example of what a great band needs- not a virtuoso musicians but some best friends, waiting for U to recover it and start playing again...nearly 2 years after the accedent. Def Leppard- the friendship won!!
I’m not a fan of Def Leppard, even though I don’t mind their music, but I applaud this man! He’s extremely talented and losing an arm doesn’t stop him! Mad respect!
Great video. Rick inspired me to start drumming when I was a kid in the 80’s and I’m still going in my 40’s. Rick Allen and Danny Carey are my heroes. Favorite song: Excitable.
Favs are "FOOLIN'" "NO NO NO" "Pour Some Sugar on me" ALLEN is an inspiration to drumming PERIOD!! I saw the first tour after he had the accident.. when he was figuring all this out and it was absolutely AMAZING!!!!
In Oslo many years ago on a drummers Exhibition, a replica of Ricks kit were up. I had the honour of tryin it, i believ there were 5 to 7 floor pedals im nut sure. But all honours to Rick for playin :) I bought a Medeli DD 502 kit, and set it so i played like Rick :) I had to start With Hysteria one of my favourites to sing and play :) Hats of for Rick :)
Big thanks for the video. Went to see Def Lep last year, best rock show I've ever seen and heard, what sets them apart from other 80's rock bands is the electronic drums, full of power and energy. Amazing how Rick manages all this during the show. I sure learned alot from this. Much respect.
It's a wonder Rick Allen ever went back to playing the drums.during a bad car accident most people would of had put up a hat on it's hanger and gave up trying he had great band members on his side pushing him on and never lost faith in him .way to go Rick the def Leppard song I love.is foolin kicks ass
I love Rick. Great inspiration and a solid drummer. My fav. Def Leppard track is Hysteria. Other than the '80's rock production, the song still stands the test of time. I love the music video too!
He's worked hard to overcome a huge handicap. I think he's amazing. Can't say I have a favorite Def Leppard song I love them all. Love bites has become my anthem though.

I know this is a couple of years old now but I have been rockin out to Def Leppard ever since I heard the Pyromania album in '83 and if I had to pick one favorite song it would be Photograph. "You got some kind of hold on me, you're all wrapped up in a mystery" just says it all about every girl I ever had a crush on lol.
Great video. Rocket is what got me started on Rick Allen and Def Leppard. But can't deny the older material as well. "Let It Go" and "Rock Rock til You Drop" are gold.
Thank you for this. He is the reason I became a drummer. They are my favorite band all time and his kit has always fascinated me. As for favorite song? It’s Hysteria 1A and Photograph 1B
😳WOW! The mechanics & process of how Rick actually plays an instrument which was designed for a musician with two arms is unbelievable! 👏🏻… THANK YOU! for explaining the details. For Rick to master this is BLOODY INCREDIBLE👏🏻! He would have to master the ‘Rocket Science of 🥁 Music 🎶’ & mastered he DID!!
Great video. Thank you for your research! Rick is a legend and although I'm not really a DL fan, I have the utmost respect for him and how he didn't let his accident stop him from doing what he loves. And to the rest of DL, for keeping him on board and not easily replacing him with someone else.
Yes, great determination. Hardwork and the support of his groupband, makes rick allen survive from the tragic accident. God bless you rick. I love def leppard eversince till im 45 now. Love bites, hysteria top of my list💞
Since you asked... Photograph. I must have played a tape of the video over and over in the MTV days. I saw them in 1983 with I believe Krokus and another band. I saw them again in 1988 and was amazed at how the drums sounded. Fortunately that tour was “in the round” so I got plenty of good locks at the setup.
Hello everyone from Greece.i'm a drummer too and i'm gonna say this"even l play punk rock Rick is my n.1appreciable drummer especially for the way he handle his accident.never give up made 3drumkits only for him like nothing happens just like an great original drummer should do.RESPECT from all of us please for a great drummer and big artist too.with love.
I met def leppard and rick when they first started out many years ago and even roadies for the one night at a small gig in south wales ... rick and I swapped tshirts as I had my band name on the front and f off on the back!.. he wore the shirt in a pic in sounds magazine and I was chuffed..i have ricks shirt here at home but no one will believe it was once his as its just a plain white shirt with a green stripe on it!... anyhow I think he has been and still is a very brave guy to do what he has done and still do ... without this fantastic set up he wouldn't be able to .. his determination has made him world famous so all power to him I say .. niceone rick
I've seen Def Leppard after Rick's accident. I knew what had happened to him so of course I focused on the drums for the first 2 or 3 songs during the show. I was absolutely speechless. He is not only very lucky to have survived the wreck but from what I saw that night, a flawless show btw, was someone who may have been down for a moment but with lots of rehabilitation, unconditional love from family, friends and fans, Rick Allen re emerged from something that could have ended his career.
My favorite is Sugar. Not only was it that song part of an incredible return to the scene after a major setback, the more you listen to all of those precise little rhythmic intricacies that Allen put into that song, the more you realize what a genius he is.
Rick may have a "disability" (the loss of a limb) But he has turned his situation into an Ability... He gives others encouragement and influence that nothing is impossible... And that you can make things better after a set back... I look up to Rick from my own "disabilities"! Fave DL tune... Rocket!
Not a drummer but I loved your clear explanations on Rick’s drum sets and how he plays. Still amazes me he plays with only one arm. My favorite song is of course Rocket. Just love listening to his drumming in this song! Hope to see them at Fenway Park this summer if this Corona virus things dies down. Rock on! Thank you for that great vid!
I personally can go either way. If it's hot out or my feet are hot off go the shoes. I've drummed in stilettos and Uggs (spring on the moment). Prefer driving mocs or Vans gym shoes. Thin sole helps feel pedals.
Being a musician somewhere impeded by legal blindness, not complete blindness as in Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Jose Feliciano or Ronnie Milsap, just severe enough that I cannot be a fully independent musician, Rick is one of my heroes. Definitely a trailblazer for being the first Drummer to lose one of his appendages and still have the “sack to Addie up again“. I’m sure many of you haters also agree that the earth is flat and the Brooklyn Bridge couldn’t be built. He’s a trailblazer, a motivator and an example of how to live with a mistake. How long did any of you who have wasted your time and energy picking on him for that accident haven’t spared a moment to harp on Steve Clark for the way he drank himself to death? He should’ve seen what happened to Rick and immediately stopped drinking. As to which Def Leppard number is my favorite, I’d be hard-pressed to choose between “Love Bites“, “Gods of War“, “ Foolin“, “Bringing on the Heartbreak“ and the title track from “Hysteria“. BUT YOU CAN’T MAKE ME CHOOSE ONLY ONE!

Great fucking story? Are you a wounded warrior? #ArmyStrong
Not matter his skill before or after the accident, the man plays at a professional level with one arm. He is a legend and an inspiration.

Victim? Of his own stupidity! One should NEVER underestimate an ALFA Romeo, much less try to race one in some Shitty ass american car.
Only un unsuspecting foreigner would waste money on a chevrolet, so that is 2 times the stupid, dont buy Chevrolets and surely dont try to race one.

1979 Rock Brigade Def Leppard ! 🤘 Rick is one of a kind ! 🌻
I have a Def Leppard drum stick from the early 90's. My broither in law got it when it was thrown out into the audience after the concert....
He gave it to me and I've been a fan ever since!!
Dude is a legend. How many one arm drummers are there? Only one that I know of

Many, google it

I've been a fan of Def Leppard ever since "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" came out in 1981. I know nothing about the technical terms related to drums. Thank you for explaining everything so clearly! This video is so interesting!
Thanks for watching !

I've played Rick’s kit many years ago and being a double-bass drummer even I found I challenging playing it with one arm tied behind my back.
Was a lot of fun.
Huge Def Leppard fan! I always wondered how he played this way, thanks for sharing!!!
His desire to overcome something that most drummers would’ve quit over is awe inspiring.
Thank you SO much for doing this.
Photograph is probably my #1 song by them. It has good memories attached.

Stories about drummers who quit over losing an arm: 0.
Rick is an absolute beast behind his kit! Thanks for the great video!
I’ve wondered this for decades but just watched concert footage so here I am, finally... Thanks
Awesome video! Rick was one of the first drummers that got me started on drums. His passion for playing kept on even after the accident. He's an inspiration. I think my favorite song is still "Pour Some Sugar on Me" since it was the song on the radio that got me starting to listen to them in the 5th grade :).
To be Rick Allen's drum tech you need to have no less than three PhD's...
IMAGINE being his tech back in the late 80s, dealing with fledgling technology or tech that didn't even exist yet. Necessity really is the mother of invention. I think without Rick Allen E-Drums aren't anywhere new where they are today.
I like “White Lightning” 😁😁. Damn that groove and guitar solo.
Thanks dude! Yeah getting specific gear lists together is a pain in the butt. That's one reason why I don't make these types of videos every week.
I've been wanting a video like this explaining Rick Allen's electronic drum uses...for decades...THANK YOU!!
I just think it’s incredible how it was after he lost his arms that the band went in it’s most successful phase! Just amazing!
Spoken like a true musician and friend!!! Well Done Alex....
Very cool, thanks for sharing this, and "Foolin" for me, every time I hear it, it takes me right back to 1983!
words can’t express the level of respect i have for Mr. Allen. i know it’s been said before, but this man truly does do with one arm what most can’t do with two.
I'm glad you cleared some things on Allen's drumming. Alot of people think it's easy in what he's doing.
Me. Getting back to listen on my stereo looking to Def Leppard on my TV.
So respect to the band and rock'n'roll.
Is this not the best drum channel for solid information! It's definitely a go to channel. Awesome presentations!
Bringing on the heartbreak.... Thanks for all your vids... much much appreciated!
Thanks Ron, I was just getting sick of the comments. So much hate out there.
Your'e very welcome and yes I too am so sick of the sheer hatred that seems to be out of control on every social media site.
Ron, right on! I am sick of those stupid, pathetic comments people leave. I remember hearing a song by bloodhound gang, and they took a jab at Rick Allen. Needless to say they got slammed by Def Leppard fans for that stupid song!
@@trendmassacre8423 When did they do that??? In a song?
Some awful human beings in the world
i was able to see def leppard's hysteria tour irvine meddows orange county ca i was 8th row it was a trip to see him play with one hand ,it seemed to me that hysteria was geared towards his one arm drumming .when they started to play rock of ages he was playing it like he had two hands the emotions in his face was incredable i never seen anyone crying that was that happy all i can say is wow
Thanks!!
Favorite def Leppard song
“Lets Get rocked”
#1-Hysteria, my favorite song of all time! #2-Pour Some Sugar on Me! Great vid explaining how Rick uses his different drum kits👍👍👍
Hysteria, those drum parts are a lot more creative than they may seem at first.
Oh man favorite song; easily the entire high and dry album.!!!! Raw and on fire
But favorite Def Lep song?
Hi, my favorite def leppard song is Hysteria. Thanks for the drum breakdown, you did an exquisite job. Sincerely, Nelson
He is so inspiring! The greatest is when he came back on fire. Very touching!
Great video. Rick inspired me to start drumming when I was a kid in the 80’s and I’m still going in my 40’s. Rick Allen and Danny Carey are my heroes. Favorite song: Excitable.
Necessity is the mother of invention. And boy have Rick and his drum techs found ways to innovate.
Favs are "FOOLIN'" "NO NO NO" "Pour Some Sugar on me" ALLEN is an inspiration to drumming PERIOD!! I saw the first tour after he had the accident.. when he was figuring all this out and it was absolutely AMAZING!!!!
”Too late for love” . One of many favorite Def songs...
Heaps of favourite Def Lepard songs, photograph, Animal, etc
God bless you, Rick Allen!! And my fave song is Hysteria!!!!
Love and Affection, Yes!
I love my Harts. I still use them a decade after I got them. They are built like a tank so I should have them for a long time to come. :)

Great rig rundown. Desert Song.
I said the same thing. Such a heavy song!
Thank you for this. He is the reason I became a drummer. They are my favorite band all time and his kit has always fascinated me. As for favorite song? It’s Hysteria 1A and Photograph 1B
Rick is an awesome drummer whether he plays with 1 arm or 2. Much respect to him. Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands
Actually he as way bellow average when he had two arms.
Pyromania wasn't even him. Those drum tracks were created on a drum machine.
Honestly, not possible to name a "favorite" but Rock of ages ranks up there :)
Let's get rocked is one of my favorite deff leppard tunes!
Great video. Thank you for your research! Rick is a legend and although I'm not really a DL fan, I have the utmost respect for him and how he didn't let his accident stop him from doing what he loves. And to the rest of DL, for keeping him on board and not easily replacing him with someone else.
Photograph!! Since my teen years. Love it.
Great piece. Promises is my favorite by a mile.
Favorite song? Hysteria. Thanks for this video. I’ll be rewatching this quite a bit.
Hello everyone from Greece.i'm a drummer too and i'm gonna say this"even l play punk rock Rick is my n.1appreciable drummer especially for the way he handle his accident.never give up made 3drumkits only for him like nothing happens just like an great original drummer should do.RESPECT from all of us please for a great drummer and big artist too.with love.
this is a great video series!! I love the info about how the pro's are combining their acoustic kits with electric. Thank you!!
Great video; thanks for taking the time to make it!
Man that's sweet!
Thank you for this cool video I’m so glad he never gave up and is still rocking
My fave might be "You got me running" off High and Dry.
Anything off that album is stellar.
1st fave song: Animal! Never get tired of it!
2nd fave song: Heaven.. The groove and melody is amazing!
Why wear shoes for drumming when you can make the pedals wear the shoes?
Good point
Natural grip
I personally can go either way. If it's hot out or my feet are hot off go the shoes. I've drummed in stilettos and Uggs (spring on the moment). Prefer driving mocs or Vans gym shoes. Thin sole helps feel pedals.
as someone who loves to drum barefoot... MIND BLOWN, damn this is genius
Rock of ages! I think that’s the name
