Often they end up as acquired tastes for me, like I really did not like Why Not at first, but now I love it; so it really is a risk I think. Despite that, some of my favourite songs have had anti-drops, so it is a risk worth taking. Also on another note, your videos are amazing, really well edited and they add your own unique personality/take to the video genre which really sells it. Feels less fabricated, while being factual and funny at the same time, so keep it up. :)

one really interesting “anti-drop,” i find, is without you by golden child! the pre-chorus actually doesn’t really build up a lot of tension, yet the drop still feels totally fresh and unexpected because of its minimalist, deep house elements that contrast with the rest of the song.

Despite knowing that SM as a conglomerate and money hungry entertainment company they sure "pioneer" a lot sounds for the whole kpop industry. While their 1st or 2nd releases might not be popular with their masses it paves the way for other companies/musicians/songwriters/composers to explore and I'm so thankful for that. Kpop is one of my favorite sounds (even if you discount the "idol culture).
One thing I like about SM is that they dont just chase after trends and make cash-grabbing songs. They genuinely care about making art (exploring new and obscure ideas, taking inspirations, do crazy things) and make money at the same time. SM is nowhere perfect but their contributions to kpop should never be overlooked. Without them, kpop would not be where it is today

They aren't shy to getting outside artists/producers, some studios don't explore as much - take a look at SM song credits; lots of foreign songwriter and producer involvement - connecting with other cultures and people, and general exposure to different environments and people means music gets more creative
Soso by Winner is a masterpiece. If you read the lyrics, it talks about how the person is not happy nor sad but okay (so so). So when the song builds up and the anti drop comes in, it really embodies what the song is all about.

I have synesthesia so I can feel and see music and my favorites are the fakeout anti-drops. The build makes me feel like I'm rising into the sky, the anti-drop part feels like I'm just floating there, and then the release of the chorus is like an explosion. It's hard to put into words but it's an incredible sensation and your videos just gave me a ton of new songs I can add to my list. Thank you!
@@sushih3302 In my head the songs will look like geometric shapes moving around. It tends to be the same shapes regardless of genre. It's more that the shapes become more 3D the more intense it is. Like usually if there is a moment where the music really builds I will see a square and it starts to develop into a cube, then if the build up keeps going I'll eventually feel like I'm actually holding the cube and manipulating it with my hands even though I'm sitting perfectly still. Not every song does this though, but for kpop almost all of Suga's solo songs do because he loves to ramp up the intensity about halfway through.
Ok its not really an anti-drop because it's not the chorus or pre-chorus but to me, nothing will ever hit the same as the fake drop in SHINee's "Clue". Its been 9 years and the only one that can match, is the Sherlock SHINee World IV live version.

Honestly, Deja Vu is iconic yet underrated at the same time and it’s weird. I remember when I got into Golden Child I was obsessed with them for like a week or two. I especially loved the songs 'ONE(lucid dream)' , 'Wannabe' and 'Without You' which were all seemingly Anti Drops. The pre chorus got me so excited and the chorus wasn't as big as I expected but the impact was amazing and made my heart beat fast with joy.

Joined in 3rd gen, but having looked into the history of the industry because I just like that kind of thing, I quickly realised that there were A LOT less groups and idols back then. Much easier to know every group, every member, every song, even ads were much more impactful back then. It really must have gotten overwhelming for those who joined earlier on. I know some people say the anti-drop sounds "empty" but the bass after all the buildup just *hits* so hard and it's satisfying to me

One of my favorite anti drops in kpop (atleast i think it is) is “And there was no one left” by dreamcatcher. It really just teleports me into an entirely different dimension every time i listen to it
one really interesting “anti-drop,” i find, is without you by golden child! the pre-chorus actually doesn’t really build up a lot of tension, yet the drop still feels totally fresh and unexpected because of its minimalist, deep house elements that contrast with the rest of the song.

Despite knowing that SM as a conglomerate and money hungry entertainment company they sure "pioneer" a lot sounds for the whole kpop industry. While their 1st or 2nd releases might not be popular with their masses it paves the way for other companies/musicians/songwriters/composers to explore and I'm so thankful for that. Kpop is one of my favorite sounds (even if you discount the "idol culture).
One thing I like about SM is that they dont just chase after trends and make cash-grabbing songs. They genuinely care about making art (exploring new and obscure ideas, taking inspirations, do crazy things) and make money at the same time.
SM is nowhere perfect but their contributions to kpop should never be overlooked. Without them, kpop would not be where it is today

SM is the most experimental company when it comes to musicality. GG, F(x) and Red Velvet songs were so ahead of the game.

They aren't shy to getting outside artists/producers, some studios don't explore as much - take a look at SM song credits; lots of foreign songwriter and producer involvement - connecting with other cultures and people, and general exposure to different environments and people means music gets more creative
Soso by Winner is a masterpiece. If you read the lyrics, it talks about how the person is not happy nor sad but okay (so so). So when the song builds up and the anti drop comes in, it really embodies what the song is all about.

I have synesthesia so I can feel and see music and my favorites are the fakeout anti-drops. The build makes me feel like I'm rising into the sky, the anti-drop part feels like I'm just floating there, and then the release of the chorus is like an explosion. It's hard to put into words but it's an incredible sensation and your videos just gave me a ton of new songs I can add to my list. Thank you!

Woahh, how do you see music? When you’re listening to music, how do different types of music look like?
@@sushih3302 In my head the songs will look like geometric shapes moving around. It tends to be the same shapes regardless of genre. It's more that the shapes become more 3D the more intense it is. Like usually if there is a moment where the music really builds I will see a square and it starts to develop into a cube, then if the build up keeps going I'll eventually feel like I'm actually holding the cube and manipulating it with my hands even though I'm sitting perfectly still. Not every song does this though, but for kpop almost all of Suga's solo songs do because he loves to ramp up the intensity about halfway through.

Honestly, Deja Vu is iconic yet underrated at the same time and it’s weird. But I love that song and it prob wins between that and energetic (maybe I’m biased😂) but I just think the chorus feels so incredibly empty… but in the best possible way. The melody REALLY gets to shine and I love that.

I remember when I got into Golden Child I was obsessed with them for like a week or two. I especially loved the songs 'ONE(lucid dream)' , 'Wannabe' and 'Without You' which were all seemingly Anti Drops. The pre chorus got me so excited and the chorus wasn't as big as I expected but the impact was amazing and made my heart beat fast with joy.

Joined in 3rd gen, but having looked into the history of the industry because I just like that kind of thing, I quickly realised that there were A LOT less groups and idols back then. Much easier to know every group, every member, every song, even ads were much more impactful back then. It really must have gotten overwhelming for those who joined earlier on. Me, it's all I know, but it's still overwhelming
