This... taught me something new Which is: I am very into antidrops executed well. At first when I heard the word "antridrop" I thought it would have been something more unpleasant, and less energetic, yet I quickly learned that it wasn't about the energy but more of a technical point (as you explained in the video: bass, drums and vocals), because to me most of the antidrops you showed did not match at all my first impression of "being less powerful", but instead flowed extremely well! This was really interesting, ty!
I'd like to add Drip Drop by Taemin as well. That was a year before Move and was very new and experimental at that time. It was the first time i've ever heard something like that.
I really loved Black or White’s antidrop because instead of it sounding like a completely different song, it still matched the funky vibes the rest of the song has
Home's fakeout totally just changed the mood for me, like I was so confused because it felt so empty all of a sudden 😳 but it carried the message of the song across that way so 🤝🏻
and whats really cool is: the first chorus hits hard because of the anti-drop (as explained in the video), but the second time around, the just skip the chorus entirely and go straight to Marks rappart from the buildup. And that, my friends, is why Marks rap hits so damn hard - you never expected it, you just expected the chorus again. Oh, and because he's a fantastic rapper of course.
Honestly between Got7 owning Antidrop with YCMN and owning cute concept with Just Right (Untouched really) its crazy that their discography isn’t given hype despite being some of the best of the best
It's so impressive how blackpink debuted with the droppest of the drops with boombayah and the antiest of all antidrops with whistle, some of their best somgs for a reason
For me Oh my god by (G)I-DLE is a concrete example of antidrop, from 16th counts to 4 counts in beat, solid bass hit, and solid vocals, it is the finest antidrop.
I remember BLACKPINK and the producers were worried that WHISTLE was not gonna be a hit because of how "empty" it felt. But the fact that it managed to predate a trend in music while also being one of BP's most successful hits just tells you how much talent the team has in songwriting. In fact, some would argue that they probably started the Anti-drop trend... some....
Move is the best example of a revolutionary Kpop song. It truly has so many perfect elements that’s just a treat for the ears. One of the best examples of an anti drop move is truly that song
Okay, okay, hear me out though. The anti-drop is still a drop, it's just a drop of something different. The original drop was a bass drop, like everything got more intense and then the bass dropped an octave and the drums got deeper and fuller sounding. These anti-drops are choosing to drop excess sound instead, so we still get a drop that signals a chorus, but it highlights either the vocals or the dancing or some kind of interesting element like the whistle in BlackPink's song. Anti-drop is an okay term because it is the opposite of the original idea of a "drop" but I still feel a drop and that's why it still hits hard.
The anti-drops just hit different- it’s like a beat drop but it has more of a vibe in it that u just wanna dancing slowly and smoothly to it or u could just head bop but there’s many ways that people dance to anti-drops! But those I write are just the ones I usually do. I never knew what anti-drops were before watching this video so thank you for helping me learn a new word! Since English is not my first language but I’m still learning in school. But anyways as I said, they just hit different idk it just has that feeling that feels so good 😂👏 (oh gosh I talk too much sorry- LMAO)
The thing about creating choreos to antidrops in songs is that you don't need a hard and fast paced song. What actually matters is the beats because they make good counts to hit in your choreo. If there's no counting beat in your song, then it's harder to create a choreo that has pops and locks in it for example, unless you make it all fluid.
My girls Dreamcatcher absolutely ate I love them Edit: also Move by Taemin has a chokehold on me IT'S SO FUCKIGN GOOD I COULD LISTEN TO THAT BUILDUP AND ANTIDROP ALL DAY AND I WOULD HAVE THE SAME REACTION EVERY TIME
(G)-IDLE'S Oh My God prechorus with Yuqi and Miyeon is hands down my personal favourite. Especially Yuqi being one of my biases, she has such a rich, deep and unique voice that makes the prechorus super addicting and I love the dance at her part there. Shuhua was right, Yuqi's dance part there is the killing point of the dance/song.
Doesn't exactly fit the "drum+bass+vocal" formula, but STAYC - ASAP is most definitely a anti-drop complete with a couple pre-chorus fake-outs and then minimal vocal chorus where the flute melody takes center stage.
asap is so good so memorable SO FUN!!! stayc are giving me some monster rookies energy that's been very absent in kpop for me last year+. i think i might stan them if i like their next comeback
You HAVE to understand 'why not' musically, I get it's a matter of taste BUT listening to the whole song makes you realize how fkn great the composition is bc it plays with a lot of things, specially the last chorus... so well made. May I also say the MV is flawless
the last chorus is SO MAGICAL it literally makes me feel like I’m inside the loonaverse and in space with them 😭😭 I never understood why some people don’t like Why Not
First time i listen to why not, i dont like it, then i listen to it the second, and third time. I still don't like it 😭✋ its not like i dislike all of it, there are parts i really like, especially the begining and the bridge. But the "dee dum da di dum" "ulala a wae a wae groove it why not do it" and the part after, it just drags down the whole song for me like i cant stand it 😭 literally i love every other part of the song but those. This comes for me that like "weird" songs like red velvet songs but for some reason i just cant get into Why Not.
I personally think that all anti-drop songs here are nice but something about GOT7 You Calling My Name got me stuck with that song. Idk how to explain it but the song sounds so classy and sexy without being overdone. Seriously one of their best title tracks
I was like, “Wow Home really does show an impactful Anti-drop Fakeout” :) Then you wrote “…best anti-drop” and I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what would be and I screamed (AGAIN to one of your videos) when I saw “Energetic” OMFG
yesss anti-drops are so satisfying and great to play with because they leave so much room to keep building up the song. You can have a classy and smooth anti-drop like got7’s or a powerful anti-drop like gidle’s or (and this is my personal favorite) you can start with the anti-drop and then have an actual drop or buildup within the same chorus like you explained which also happens in cix’s jungle, golden child’s without you (this song just makes incredible use of a minimalistic instrumental) or hoshi’s spider. ITS JUST SO SATISFYING.
I love anti-drop too!! The transition of a song into anti-drop make that song sounds special. I like Got7's 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙮 𝙉𝙖𝙢𝙚 the best in your example.
just a new ahgase and it's my first time listening to a group with so many good pre-chorus and chorus! The lyrics are perfection too. And it blew my mind when their songs are written and composed by got7 themselves! did not regret stanning got7 💚

It’s also because the „dee-da-dumdee-dum“ works like an instrument, just like scat singing in jazz music… people seem to forget that the human voice is an instrument as well 😅

SEVENTEEN's antidrops are godlike.
Especially in 24h.

This... taught me something new
Which is: I am very into antidrops executed well.
Home by Seventeen is a really beautiful song. The anti-drop fits in so well and I love it when Carats do fanchants in the silence of it :D
Anti-drops are literally perfect sometimes. I really grew to appreciate them through Kpop and they know how to use them right.
Hoshi uses this in Spider and it's a masterpiece 💆♀️ can't stop listening
YESSS LOVE THAT SONG
AGREED
I'd like to add Drip Drop by Taemin as well. That was a year before Move and was very new and experimental at that time. It was the first time i've ever heard something like that.
yes more love for taemin
I really loved Black or White’s antidrop because instead of it sounding like a completely different song, it still matched the funky vibes the rest of the song has
Why not? Is kinda the opposite but i like it
I used to kinda hate that part but not anymore 😳😫
@@DanDCool I'm saying that I loved it? XD

SEVENTEEN totally owns the concept of anti-drop. They never miss ❤
seventeen slays
Seventeen basically owns every single concept they do.
24h is one of my top svt songs because of the amazing anti-drop it's crazy
YES YES!
it's back again with super! really cool
You Calling My Name is a masterpiece and can stand against time, total eargasm
agree
Home's fakeout totally just changed the mood for me, like I was so confused because it felt so empty all of a sudden 😳 but it carried the message of the song across that way so 🤝🏻
2:57 who else rap with mark's "uh you think ya big boi throwing three stacks" even tho it's not that part yet?? lmaooo i did
me too lmao
and whats really cool is: the first chorus hits hard because of the anti-drop (as explained in the video), but the second time around, the just skip the chorus entirely and go straight to Marks rappart from the buildup. And that, my friends, is why Marks rap hits so damn hard - you never expected it, you just expected the chorus again. Oh, and because he's a fantastic rapper of course.
I got so disappointed lmao
Honestly between Got7 owning Antidrop with YCMN and owning cute concept with Just Right (Untouched really) its crazy that their discography isn’t given hype despite being some of the best of the best
Fact 👌
Yes, they need some more respect on their name
SAY IT LOUDERRRRR
Ikr... Even their Japanese bsides are bop...
Finally someone said it
The editing, the explanations, the slight music theory, the comedy, the enthusiasm. Definitely deserves a subscribe
*exactly!!!*
@momooo that’s how smooth they edited it 😱
It's so impressive how blackpink debuted with the droppest of the drops with boombayah and the antiest of all antidrops with whistle, some of their best somgs for a reason
Yeah 😂😂😂
Another antidrop song Spider by Hoshi! What a masterpiece

if anyone likes this style and wants more 'jungle' by cix has a really good anti drop :)

Home by SVT hits really different! Never get tired hearing that
Yeah,, it's one of my favorite svt's song
For me Oh my god by (G)I-DLE is a concrete example of antidrop, from 16th counts to 4 counts in beat, solid bass hit, and solid vocals, it is the finest antidrop.
Yes. It's a masterpiece!
a shame only the beginning and end are good
@@Exel3nceehhh I like the whole song

I remember BLACKPINK and the producers were worried that WHISTLE was not gonna be a hit because of how "empty" it felt. But the fact that it managed to predate a trend in music while also being one of BP's most successful hits just tells you how much talent the team has in songwriting. In fact, some would argue that they probably started the Anti-drop trend... some....
I don't they think they worried much. 2ne1 has that hit song like that..
Move is the best example of a revolutionary Kpop song. It truly has so many perfect elements that’s just a treat for the ears. One of the best examples of an anti drop move is truly that song
aye we both have v as our icons
@@benji1998 omg a fellow jihyunator 🤝
!!
쀵쀵귀염이 yea like that.
Phak u I'm never gonna stop procrastinating
My girls Dreamcatcher absolutely ate I love them
Edit: also Move by Taemin has a chokehold on me IT'S SO FUCKIGN GOOD I COULD LISTEN TO THAT BUILDUP AND ANTIDROP ALL DAY AND I WOULD HAVE THE SAME REACTION EVERY TIME
(G)-IDLE'S Oh My God prechorus with Yuqi and Miyeon is hands down my personal favourite. Especially Yuqi being one of my biases, she has such a rich, deep and unique voice that makes the prechorus super addicting and I love the dance at her part there. Shuhua was right, Yuqi's dance part there is the killing point of the dance/song.
(G)I-DLE* 🙈
Doesn't exactly fit the "drum+bass+vocal" formula, but STAYC - ASAP is most definitely a anti-drop complete with a couple pre-chorus fake-outs and then minimal vocal chorus where the flute melody takes center stage.
YASSSZ
Agreed
the flute brings me life
Definitely loving the ooh-huu part 😂💙💙
asap is so good so memorable SO FUN!!! stayc are giving me some monster rookies energy that's been very absent in kpop for me last year+. i think i might stan them if i like their next comeback
You HAVE to understand 'why not' musically, I get it's a matter of taste BUT listening to the whole song makes you realize how fkn great the composition is bc it plays with a lot of things, specially the last chorus... so well made. May I also say the MV is flawless
i recently became obsessed with why not. I didn't like it first listen but then it just HIT.
Their best MV imo
the last chorus is SO MAGICAL it literally makes me feel like I’m inside the loonaverse and in space with them 😭😭 I never understood why some people don’t like Why Not
@@mcn5802 so true, I'm glad I liked it at the first listen :'D
First time i listen to why not, i dont like it, then i listen to it the second, and third time. I still don't like it 😭✋ its not like i dislike all of it, there are parts i really like, especially the begining and the bridge. But the "dee dum da di dum" "ulala a wae a wae groove it why not do it" and the part after, it just drags down the whole song for me like i cant stand it 😭 literally i love every other part of the song but those. This comes for me that like "weird" songs like red velvet songs but for some reason i just cant get into Why Not.
3:33 his voice is so nice omg

Ooh yes i love Golden Child no wonder I keep listening over and over
THATS IS WHY HOME BY SEVENTEEN IS THE BEST SONG EVER RELEASED
Ikr it is doing very well in chart back then

Taemin is one of the best kpop male soloists period. He’s got the vocals, dance and stage presence.
Idk I feel like loona’s why not doesn’t have a big antidrop. It’s still very energetic from the prechorus.
yess
It's because of the "woah woah woah woah woah" that refrains it
Yeah, the ”woah woah woah” prepares you for it so its more of a transition
It’s also because the „dee-da-dumdee-dum“ works like an instrument, just like scat singing in jazz music… people seem to forget that the human voice is an instrument as well 😅
TAEMIN’S MOVE AND (G)I-DLE MAKES ME GO INSANE- there’s no way I won’t dance to these songs (even if I look dumb while dancing the songs are just too good)
LITERALLY
