    mr. gurney, have you ever painted a rainy scene? i think something with the water splashing on your ground would be just gorgeous (granted, all of your paintings are gorgeous)

    I always keep this mind and try to practice it but then I fall,back to “paint in all the big shapes to unify the composition and edge” routine. Having said that I really appreciate your videos and knowledge. Even when producing my own painting demos. Thanks again James

    Most of my oil painting friends save the sky for last. However, I've always painted it first. Thank you James, for the confirmation.

    Hello, I think it's the painter's job to beautifully recreate ordinary landscapes.
    You explained in the last video you drew a pile of trees. You have special vision, observation, and expressive abilities.
    It is even more amazing and wonderful to see the place where you are painting, the process of painting, and the painting being drawn together.
    Thanks for sharing the nice video. Always be healthy and happy. ^^

    Having grown up watching Bob Ross, who always painted in layers from background to foreground, but then deciding I'd like to try watercolor.... it seems sort of impossible like trying to paint in reverse. Gouache seems like it could solve some of those issues, or acrylic. But I like the look of watercolor. Oh why must I always pick the most difficult things?

    Drawing background to foreground is something that's done in 3d software renderers as well. It's understandably called the Painter's Algorithm. Not the most efficient way, but it's nice how when people are problem-solving, they are creative enough to use concepts that they are familiar with, even if it isn't directly related to the problem domain.

    Mr. Gurney is it possible to take guache to plane?

    • @realmahadeo
      @realmahadeo 3 года назад +3

      James has at least one video where he paints an airplane, and I believe he said that "he was allowed" to keep gouache in the carry-on baggage, and then take it on board. So I assume it's possible but you might need to get a permission for that

    • @macdieter23558
      @macdieter23558 3 года назад

      Why shouldn´t you? Assuming you don´t want to paint during the flight you don´t need it in your carry-on baggage, so where seems to be the problem?

  • @Lacroix999
    @Lacroix999 3 года назад +2

    I’m confused. The background is in casein, the clouds are gouache and the rest is watercolor?

    • @DannySabraArt
      @DannySabraArt 3 года назад +2

      The background is in casein so that it won’t lift up when he paints gouache over the top. I’m not sure if he used watercolor here but he uses gouache and watercolor interchangeably. They are essentially the same thing except gouache often has more pigment and less binder.

  • @a234633

    • @JamesGurney

    RE: Your SKETCHBOOK EASEL: What kind of white paint did you use to coat or spray the metal tins you use for your palettes?

    • @JamesGurney
      @JamesGurney  3 года назад +1

      I used spray enamel primer. But I've also used spray lacquer. The latter seems to withstand abrasion better, but both enamel and lacquer will stain with some pigments. I believe the gold standard would be baked enamel, and I think that's what the manufacturers do. If anyone can help with this, please share.
