The way Ford's voice broke and lips quivered when he asked for them to pray for Nixon...that might've been the most genuine moment of emotion I've ever seen from a US president. It's up there with the beginning of LBJ's first address to Congress after the death of JFK when he said "all I have I would give gladly NOT to be speaking here today".
@@Magdalenkaization Frederick did say "many" not all. This reminds me that Steven saved me from having to register for the draft. In 1974, he was 18, and I was 17. @maestrotownsend8833 Without the 25th Amendment, Carl Albert would have become president. I think unelected Gerry was preferable, but I am a native Michigander. Ford, born in Nebraska, was not, though.
Many believe in God still, but our world has grown and gotten more ungodly and as America opened up our borders to asylum seekers and people from other countries which in turn brought in more diversity and more religions. Separation of church and state was more enforced as it should be. God instructed us to welcome the sojourners and teach them our ways. Light still shines over darkness. Our Constitution and Democracy is still strong and it works don't let trump and his complicit get into your head with lies and hate.
It’s important to remember that the United States was founded on the principle of separation of church and state. Religious freedom is sacred but it also has no place in civil government.
well good thing today we have finally accepted islam as our good friendly kind neighbors with all this political effort we can all finally be great neighbors and friends

The only man in U.S. history to serve both as Vice President and as President without having been elected to either office.
I can’t help but noticing that many of the people pictured here in this video from 50 years ago are now dead.
That is what happens in 50 years. None of them were spring chickens then.
All four of children of Mr. and Mrs. Ford are still alive.

@@Magdalenkaization Yes, I’m aware of that. However, all four Ford children are now significantly older today in 2024 than their parents were in 1974.
@@frederickrapp5396 as all of us are, but I am okay with that, considering the alternative. 😀
I was 13-14 during Watergate and this. Was camping when we heard Nixon's speech and Ford swearing in.

You are a brave person to quote Archie Bunker these days.
Good for you!

To be fair though presidents are always trapped and constrained in the times in which they get to live in.
