    At 9:27 President Ford misspoke: He certainly meant to say January 20, 1969...the date of President Nixon's inauguration.

    • @ultra_marcus
      @ultra_marcus 11 месяцев назад +1

      The real question is, what did Nixon do in those first 6 months? what did Ford know?

    • @dukeofhaas
      @dukeofhaas 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ultra_marcus In 1969 Gerald R. Ford was one of 435 US Congressman in the 91st Congress. He was in no position to "know" anything more or less than any other Member. And please remember that the Watergate Hotel burglary didn't occur until the Summer of 1972. Thanks for your comment.

      Yes, i have made that comment on this speech elsewhere. July 20th 1969 was the day of the moon landing.

    • @ku4uv
      @ku4uv 6 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah I noticed that too. He got the the date of the moon landing confused with the date Nixon took office.

      Oh shit, those first 6 month's of Nixon's first term are fair game then!

      He did this because an investigation would have shown the players that supposedly exposed the Watergate scandal were intel agents.

      Ford would've beaten Jimmy Carter if not for that slip up in the 2nd debate about Poland and Eastern Europe. His campaign was catching momentum at the end but that misstep cost them valuable time. I'm a big believer if the 1976 election happened 2 weeks later that Ford would've beaten Carter and the whole rest of the 20th century would've been different.

    There’s no question pardoning Nixon was the right move. Not for Nixon’s sake but to avoid dragging the country through a prolonged trial which could have torn the country apart.
    Ford if anything was too honest, but was a thoroughly decent guy.

      Most of the nation wanted Nixon convicted. The overwhelming majority.
      Him pardoning Nixon was a slippery slope
      It’s also emboldened people like trump to attempt a coup

      I disagree. It sent the message that the President is above the law and we're suffering because of it today. You don't heal a wound by ignoring it, you disinfect it. It might have been hard to go through Nixon's trial (though maybe not as hard as we assume) but it was the only right thing to do. Presidents are not above the law.

      He knew it. And he still made a hard choice that he knew would be politically unpopular and have far-reaching social consequences. And he bore the brunt of it for the rest of his life. And that's why he was a Hell of a man.

      afoul even then, this country and it governmental official have been corrupt and sinking deeper into the mire of the swamp since they killed President John F. Kennedy, then with less left derangement and influence of the Marxist Communist infiltration, but still at it since the early 60's.
