A pity that the guy he chose, with Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush senior's close cooperation, created the excessively powerful modern imperial presidency in just two and half years in office.....and almost every president since has taken liberties with those excessive powers in some way.
The 1970’s were the end of the World War 2 economic blip. After the war, the US was the only major industrial power not destroyed. The US enjoyed a prosperous but temporary economic boom. The boom was going to end whoever was president.
