      He’s using more aged-tape settings in the demos so wow, flutter, dropout and reduced fidelity and being introduced to the sound. Turn the Tape Age and Wow & Flutter settings to 0 and it’s very clean and clear with some warmth but doesn’t sound digital, it’s like a brand new EchoPlex or Roland Space Echo. At that point it’d be more like a digital delay with an all tube preamp.

      On second thoughts, please don’t! Either these people (a) have a problem with their hearing, (b) don’t have the attention span to listen to this long enough, let alone to learn how to craft such beautiful sounds, (c) are so unhappy with their lives they have nothing positive to contribute to any discussion about creativity, or (d) all of the above. But let’s not be angry or irritated by them - I’m only sorry they couldn’t get as much joy or pleasure as I did from listening to every second of this. Thank you Antoine, that was beautiful 🙌

    I absolutely love delay! I have 3 delay pedals... 1st, Boss DD-7, for basic delays. Think rock crap, spring, slap-back, nothing to strenuous. 2nd, the Strymon El Capistan, which I use either the types of delays with tape degradation, like you hear in this vid (which is great, BTW), or for max time, single C, Frippertronics. This pedal is amazing for stuff like this. 3rd is a Walrus Fable Delay. I'm at a loss to try to explain how this pedal works. Something like 'Granular delay slices fed back upon themselves'... ??? Whatever... it was the pedal that went far to slam home my musical exploration, but only with the El Capistan riding herd with it. Then add in a max DD-7 repeat...? For me, when I combine the three of them and somehow get them to cooperate with each other, the result is amazing. I thought I understood delay timing, ms to beat crap. Nope. Now, I'm just beginning to get it. It's a blast!!

    Hi Antoine, love the video. Such expansive and beautiful soundscapes. May I ask, on one of the last examples, (at 6:12 and 6:15) you produced a kind of feedback sounding note - Is this from using harmonics and easing in the volume with the guitar pot or a volume pedal? Or is it from using this with a combine expression pedal somehow? Can you please explain what that’s from? Just love it 👍

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  4 года назад +2

      Hey Stephen! Yes, it's just harmonics faded in with my guitar's volume knob. Your first instinct was the right one!

    Hi there! Amazing video dude! So nice of you sharing all those fantastic sounds.
    I'm about to buy these pedal but I've read that it has some issues on the dotted 1/8 setting (which I think is the "fixed - B" mode) when you tap tempo.
    Did you have any problems with that so far?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  8 лет назад

      +Marius Söderström Never had any issues with it ! What do people say ? Does it not adjust the tempo in time with the footswitch ? I have to admit I don't use the tap tempo that much, but when I do, all is ok with it !

    Just downloaded your album. I was researching this pedal before buying it and came across your profile. It sounds like you use it in your song "A path of white clouds"
    I have to say I downloaded your album and will be listening to this on my way to work tomorrow! Thanks for the great demo video of this pedal but thank you even more for your great music.

    What's the main setting that drives that twittery sound at 1:55? I'm referring to that twisty sound that has a borderline vocal quality to it. If I were to visualize it, it sounds like tiny whorls forming in water and spinning into smaller and smaller circles until spun out of existence. That is a very eerie yet pleasant sound.

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  7 лет назад +2

      The main setting I tried to show here was the Tape Crinkle. It is maxed out at 100% and I had to put down some other settings at zero (Tape Bias, Reverb, Tape Age, Wow & Flutter), so the Tape Crinkle really steals the character of the repeats. That's what you refer as "twittery'' or ''twisty'' :)

    So can you get straight delay from this pedal without the reverb? I can't find any demos without reverb.

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  8 лет назад +2

      +PedalHead Of course you can, you only put the Reverb knob at 0% by pushing the two knobs. I only used reverb on half the sounds in this video ! (Sometimes the echos and the modulation are so lush and ethereal it seems there is reverb, but it's only delay!)

    Cool sounds! I have a volume pedal- is that the same thing as an "expression" pedal? In other words, can I use my vol pedal to speed up the Time for example? Thanks!

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  8 лет назад

      +biffbyford Thanks ! And no, your volume pedal cannot do the same thing as an expression pedal, it can only control the volume while the expression pedal can be assigned to many other parameters. So technically, an expression pedal could be assigned to the volume, which is confusing, but it can be assigned to other parameters as well. A volume pedal strictly controls the volume! Maybe a dual Volume/Expression pedal exists, I have not made my research yet ;)

    Thanks for this! I just got the El Capistan and I'm a bit intimidated as to where to start, as I'm used to more carbon copy style 3 knob all analog delay pedals. This is helping me figure mine out, though!

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  8 лет назад

      +MrDT543 Glad I can help ! You can try to set every knob ''off'' or ''flat'', and turn only one knob at a time to hear what it does. Even all the secondary functions are easily distinguishable, in my opinion, you just have to take the time to learn what they are :)

    Hey bro, right now I have this kind of problem, I can get an El Capistan for half the price of a Timeline, would you go for it or save for the time line?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  8 лет назад +5

      I had both, and the El Capistan was my favorite. It just has a special flavour and tone that the Timeline doesn't have on the dTape mode. That being said, if you want more versatility and need a lot of presets, the Timeline is for you. It all depends on your needs and what it will be used for. But if you ask, the El Capistan wins it for me for the sound itself!
