I have recently bought an Eventide Space which is superb for ambient reverb but it also does, modulation, chorus and delay combined with reverb (as it is dual engined). Strymon are also great, but since I mainly use free VSTs for all my effects and don't have the money for all the hardware effects, I discounted the Strymon and also discounted the Empress Delay due to it's high price here in Brazil.

Hey Antoine, I dig the volante, el capistan and deco tape effects and my compadre Ola prefers the big sky over the blue sky which is understandable if you look at the timeline in which they were released but overall, I think the night sky is best when its dark out.

The Iridium has to come first for me, just because it's such a good amp sim and can be used for everything. The Volante isn't far behind, seriously amazing delay. The Bluesky is good too although I don't use the Shimmer much and would prefer the new version where I could blend it in. Is it worth swapping the Volante for an El Capistan?

  • @j.hammer573

I have the Volante & DIG. I use a Pedaltrain Nano & the Volante is too big but it’s so good I can’t justify getting rid of it. The DIG is better than I imagined. With the golden ratio. The second delay can mimic a reverb effect. The modulation switch provides a good, although, basic chorus. In the end, the DIG is like a 3 in one pedal for me. I owned the El Cap. Loved the sounds but a pain in the but to bend over with my guitar, press two buttons and adjust the reverb. The El Cap became the Volante for me. I did try the two drive pedals. I preferred the Riverside to the Sunset. The Riverside is s pedal I regret selling. Lastly, I’m looking to try the Brigadier. I’ve been checking the used market for one. I’d be curious of anyone’s feedback on the pedal. What’s your thoughts on the modulation on the Brigadier?

    • @rockinforjesus7593
      @rockinforjesus7593 Год назад +1

@J. Hammer the Brigadier is a fantastic pedal. I traded it for an El Cap, which is great too, but sometimes I miss the simplicity of the Brig vs. having to refer to the manual for the El Cap.
The modulation on the Brig is so good. Subtle chorus to shimmery vibrato. Very musical pedal, very inspiring, and very easy to get great delays out of it.

I'm a total a fan of the Timeline. Since years it's my main delay pedal. I love the dBucket, Swell, and Ice. Super cool for many ambient purposes. I would like to try out a Brigadier at some point, but the TL does it all already.

DIG is the ultimate for me.
Zelzah probably has the number 2 spot at the moment.
After that El Cap, Lex V2, Flint, Deco, and Riverside. Those are the ones I've owned, and I still have all of them on my board except the Riverside.

I have used 8 so here is my list:
BigSky - insane amount of quality reverbs
El capistan - perfect tape delay textures
    Volante - dreamy, rhythmic beauty
Ola - chours and vibrato are so good
Iridium - perfect for home jamming
BlueSky - works great with acoustic guitar
Dig - best buddy of BlueSky
    Flint - for cinematic textures
I also like the sounds on TimeLine though I have never tried it.
NightSky sounds good but looks complicated.

Hi Antoine, I did not realize that your music was on Apple Music. I have your albums on my phone now. Quick question: I have the Cloudburst and the Keeley Halo on my board. I play at church so I cannot put a lot of effect on the Cloudburst. I am planning on running the Halo first into the Cloudburst. So delay into reverb. Is that what you would do? Thanks. I am listening to your latest album as I write this. Sounds great!

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar

Yes, that's what I would do. I always like reverb last, which is also most typical. Thanks for the support and for listening to my music... means a lot!

The Ola is such a 'sleeper'. I thought I would never use the envelope mode and I use it contsanty. So expressive in every mode and just absolutely lush. The TimeLine is nuts. The depth and immersive quality is truly something to be experienced. i have had the Canyon, Metaverse, etc and the TimeLine is just amazing. All these years later and they are still the best pedals you can hope to get. The Nightsky is at 10 for a reason: I have one. They are awesome but I do not seek conventional reverb sounds at all and that is what it is good at. I do find myself wanting something easier to dial in for guitar and have been tempted by the Big Sky if money would ever allow! Also, the Zuma power supply is the quietest and nicest i have ever used. Way to go Strymon!

I have 12 Strymon pedals - but I still don't have the the Blue Sky, Volante, the Night Sky , the Iridium, the Lex and the Zelzah - as well, I don' t own their last small format new pedals ...
But, yes, the El Capistan and the Big Sky and also the Flint are their the best pedals ! I love all Strymon pedals !

I love the nightsky a lot. I wonder whether the volatne would bring me a lot of extra fun, as I allready have timeline. I just love the concept - since it is so close to a real tape dec, especially with the selectable tape heads. And it is a lot easier to twist on the go, as all knobs are just so available.
On the other hand, the timeline has all I need - wonder if it is just GAS.... It is just, the concept of the volante fascinates me so much, I am curious to try it out... But I cannot sell my Timeline. I cannot live without Ice alone - as it is a Hammond Organ in a box. Nor can I live without the superb digital delay of the TL.... 2 delays on my board? Possibly three, as I will get the Meris Hedra pitch shifter delay at some point?? Is my money spent better elswhere? But then again... What an outstanding concept, fascinating.

Bonjour Antoine, I have a question regarding a stereo setup. I have 2 Blues Junior amps and want a delay pedal to use in stereo. What would be a better pedal for stereo: the El Capistan or the Volante?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  Год назад +1

Both can be fantastic, but I would say the Volante, because you can pan the heads on the left and right as you wish, so you can create really intense stereo effects with it - more than the El Capistan!

On the El Capistan we are exactly on the same page, it's a magical pedal, there is something about it that I can't describe...On overdrive and distortion, please give good analog distortion a try, but not the Riverside, it's not a good example of analog distortion, try something like Gunshot overdrive from Thorpy, try to do swells and let that magical richness and harmonic content bloom, it's fantastic for ambient and I am afraid not very popular.

The Deco is a top 5 strymon pedal.
I think in my experience the bigger pedals are not as specifically voiced for guitar. The smaller pedals just sound perfect with guitars. The big pedals are like studio racks. I can also get similar sounds with high DSP plug ins -like a UAD Lexicon 224 sounds better than Big Sky. I can’t get say El Cap/Deco sounds that “feel” as good for guitar. Feel also matters. The smaller pedals just feel good for guitar.
I would go El Cap/Volante/Flint/Deco/DIg in my top 5. Iridium is great too…I think their modulation isn’t as good as analog. I will take a Waza CE2, Maxon PH 350, and Mistress Flanger over anything on möbius/Ola/Orbit/Zelzah.
I believe where Strymon shines is the guitar voiced reverb and delays and the Deco is just a one off they really happened to nail. It’s special. No other pedal is like it.
Great breakdown and as always everyone’s mileage may vary!
    Cheers
