No. It’s fine. The smoker option automatically goes from igniting the pellets to smoking. The other options goes through preheating then prompts you to add the food.

Buy a wireless temp probe. Then you can cook to the proper internal temperature. Takes out the guessing. Shout out from Oakland Ca. USA.
