Actually Pirlo played infront of defence as pivot and regista converting defensive passages into offence, Gattuso acted as pirlos "bodyguard" satellite filling in the spaces and covering for pirlo, seedorf was the connective tissue between the players who were involved in attack st any one time.
Truly a "swiss watch" of football system and formation. Elegant and precise.

Actually during the second half, Liverpool changed their midfield into 3, Hamman, Alonso and Gerrard. That trio beat Milan's midfield and later became the template for Liverpool 09 when Macherano came in. Became one of the best offense team in Europe that time.

Clarence Seedorf was so good he won the Champions League wherever he went. Ajax, Madrid, Milan…..some clubs even picking it up twice. A true baller.

To describe Seedorf on his strength is misleading to those who didn't have the chance to watch him play. The guy was technically superb with great touch and pass.
Ruud is a striker so he's focused on how hard it was to score against them. Seedorf was a baller but he could defend when he had to as well.
There are lots of videos out there showing Seedorfs skills. Of course he was technically skilled but it was the combination with his physicality, his vision and his intelligence that made him such an exceptional player. Till this day he is the only player to win the Champions League with three different clubs and if there hadn't been Zidane and Ronaldinho playing in the same era he would have been rated higher than he actually is. Still my favourite player.

As a Liverpool fan lucky enough to enjoy Istanbul, that Milan side was out of this world. An all time great. They blew us apart in that first half and we were lucky/gutsy to get ourselves back in it
I've had a girlfriend breaking off our engagement after asking me to marry her but the Instanbul AC/Liverpool final was more painful than ever for me. I WAS SO UPSET! Liverpool completely went off script there and I wasn't even a supporter of AC but their squad was legerdary, and I loved that team.

It really is insane how good that lineup was. The back 4 and double Pivot were the Galacticos of defenders. Kaka was the best player in the world. Sheva and Inzaghi were so effective up front. Pirlo dominating the passing tempo, and Seedorf was one of the most complete midfielders of all time.
