A perfect exemple of what happens when (musical) industry sharks don't give a sh*t about culture, sharing and most of all DEMOCRACY!
Lemmy Caution is a great RUclipsr. Thanks to him and his karaoke videos, I spent many hours with friends singing songs I can't find anywhere else.

Wow I didn't know they only let RUclips Partners download their videos and have access to the UI. That seems incredibly unfair, seeing how regularly the three-strike system is abused and how detrimental the effects of it happening unfairly to a channel are. I can't imagine pouring hours into making content to have it entirely erased with no chance to save it. It's clear these rules were designed before the implementation was considered. Multiple strikes from the same person should also definitely be counted as one, with the chance to choose multiple videos under one strike. Striking three videos when most people have hundreds on their channel always leads to this sort of issue.
Punishing content creators like this only pushes people away from the platform, but there are no real alternatives of this size either. RUclips genuinely needs to do better, if they're going to establish rules they need to make sure they actually protect the creators. Copyright strikes are abused so regularly that most creators have a video or two addressing a time that this has happened, and they've had to fight and make noise to get answers. They need a genuinely well-formed, dedicated team that handles these issues and actually has dialogue with the creator and the striker before just nuking someone's entire channel. People put a lot of time into making these videos, and having to lose it all over an issue where the creator would willingly remove the content is just ridiculous.

you're my fav karaoke channel so i had no idea what was going on with the others. that's horrible, i feel that karaoke absolutely is transformative of a given work and therefore is fair use.

there's lots of great youtube karaoke channels using the same new vocal removal technology. the youtube content ID system allows this by sending the ad. revenue to the copyright holders (we are unable to monetise our channels for this reason) it also means we're all at risk of the same thing which has happened to Lemmy's channel.

That sucks! A lot of people sang songs from his channel. The artist who did that is a party-pooper. Anyway, thank you for the track you did for "Un Soir, Un Chien", I appreciate it a lot.

It's why I always make sure to backup all of my videos to a third party streaming site. Even though karaoke falls well under fair use, you just never know.

What the fuck seriously!!! I loved that channel... Lemmy did such amazing work. This does seem like misuse of the system.

I'm torn. Parts of me want to rabble-rouse and ask you to name and shame the artist who issued the copyright strikes. The better part of me knows that this is just a broken system.
Thank you for all of the passion you put into your channel. You took one of my requests and I am still very grateful.

it's no secret, it was Tyler The Creator, or at least people acting on his behalf, cracking down on leaks of unreleased material. No-one is vilifying the artist for looking after his work. The youtube 3 strikes system doesnt work.

Thanks for the reply. Damn, what a shit situation.
Karaoke is the most accessible form of actively participating in music (outside of church, which is not for this atheist). I think there's huge value to society there.
I'm checking out Tyler the Creator's subreddit and don't see anyone in his community discussing it. Would it be productive to stir discussion within that community or is it a "what happened happened" kind of scenario?
