I divide music in 2 groups: -Neutral songs: you can show them to anyone and he/she will probably like them -Specific songs: you need to like the type of music to like these songs.
This track is the perfect representation of that toothache I had years ago. Pain comes slowly but steadily, and becomes more and more intense until it drove me crazy.
They had balls to release this and Rollin' and Scratchin' fully knowing it would alienate a lot of people. I'll admin I didn't like them when I first heard the album, but now they're among my favourites.
@@verapamil07 Nah, that’s where Daft Punk were actually quite intelligent. They actually negotiated a deal where they got to keep total creative control of their music; Virgin Records just had an exclusive license to publish the results.

Who would've guessed that 7 and a half minutes of guitar feedback could be one of the best songs Daft Punk has to offer. I'm not being sarcastic. This is legitimately one of my favourite songs from them.

"You can't just listen to this. You have to imagine yourself in some massively packed club with people dancing around like in the Matrix Zion dance scene. But with pulsing and throbbing strobe lights and colors blasting all around. " ..... and there you are... in the club... surrounded by sweating dancing people and flashing lights..... playing with your zipper for seven and a half minutes.
Rollin and scratchin are special. I think it is the level of energy and taste of avante garde to their approach, because you don't expect a crescendo toward absolutely ear piercing glory.
Imagine hearing some of their more melodic stuff and then having a listen to their older stuff, and having your poor little brain melt, instead of being exposed to this at the time and being disappointed with their more melodic stuff.
Try making a house song, or any electronic dance type song. The real hard part is finding the sample beats etc to go together, to find harmony. Then there’s programming in synth sounds, it’s not easy at all. It’s a grind, takes a ton of patience and just twisting knobs, pressing notes, trying to make that epic synth sound to go with your beats. You delete 90%+ of the synth stuff you create. Then you can even go with synths that you play very complex piano pieces on.... but that’s another story, not to do with this song. The simplicity, the charms of predictability. Dance music is beautiful.
Can we just accept the fact that the steady hi-hat beat on this is simply awesome? Especially in the part the beat halts for a while and then that hi-hat builds up to the climax. That's the difference between ordinary "tum tss tum tss" electronic music and actually GOOD electronic music.
