Oh, he did have his serious moments, such as later in this movie when he went after the twins who had killed 006(I believe). It's those times when he is down to business that really makes it good. Most of the time being rather carefree made the adventure fun, but there is always a time to button up and do the dirty work.
That’s what made him good. He was the funny bond. The sarcastic side of bond. The one thing is, no one actor has nailed the role, they have their versions. Mix Sean Connery, with Daniel Craig’s casino Royale, and some of of Roger Moore’s humour. Perfection.
What a scene - deducing the tactics to pursue his next mission. His delivery has always been a gentlemen charm. No one does it like Roger Moore, you will be greatly missed.
Robert Brown is an underrated M. I think that, while he didn't look as much born for the role as Bernard Lee did, he was in a certain way closer to the temperamental M of Fleming's books.
Bond got the egg to MI-6 and left Khan with the trackable counterfeit, while also gaining some good intel on Khan and pulling an extra 100 grand out of the dude's pocket for good measure. And he even pre-bought the plane ticket for his next assignment before M could even give it to him. I like when we get to see Bond just be a really good spy.

thing is the new films are meant to be the origin of these ones, the fact that the 1st film way about 0007 becoming 007 early, remaking the commanders office. There's just one tiny cock up. M being a woman. And played by the great Dame herself She was the first female M when Brosman met her, and they had some tension. Even the callbacks in later films. The exploding pen, the car with missles behind the plates ETC and then you get people who say its just a code name. Again Skyfull disproved that by showing his family home, graves. The fact that one actor was married to a bond girl, she is killed by Blofeld and the next bond is on a revenge hunt for him. The fact that its 3 different bonds going after Spectre (classic bond) and Blofeld and Bond act like its the same guy playing Bond. SO Bond not a code name.

Can you imagine a succesfull Craig movie going to the space? - When he was replaced, with a better actor IMHO, the movie got better reviews but only because was a reboot, the next one almost killed bond... - He is the bond in one of the best movies of the saga, The Spy Who Loved Me. Heathrow is a long way away from that room. Even with 1980s security, I don't see him making it from downtown London, through check in (even with the shorter premium class line), to the gate and onto the plane in 55 minutes.
Roger Moore is awesome! loved him in the Saint and for me he was just made for that role! Love watching those old British shows! Such style and class! And he was great as Bond as well! Shame the writing got so hokey. Plus by Octopussy he was starting to look rather old for the role.

Out of respect for Lee, the part was not recast for FYEO but Moore suggested Brown should take the part for Octopussy. The 'replica' egg was the one 009 had taken to the British Embassy in Berlin. Whilst Bond didn't know KK was going to bid for the egg, clearly someone was going to, and the fact someone had killed 009 for the fake egg showed that the villain was keenly interested in it.
Bond is holding up the real egg and they put a transmitter in the egg and later the bad guys smash the egg with the transmitter in it and call it a fake so they smash the real egg and keep the fake. a massive hole in the writhing.
They've cut it slightly short where M has a wry smile on his face almost in admiration of Bond like a father would to a son.

I thought Bernard Lee was closer to the character in the books. A stiff upper lip no non sense guy.
Brown certainly looked healthier. Lee looked very unwell in his later films.

The counterfeit wasn't trackable. The tracker was put into the real egg which Magda stole from Bond.

As much as I liked the Brosman era, seeing Craig walk back into M's office at the end of Skyfall was a joy to behold.
I was not sure what the villain would be betting on so I had to carry around in my bagpocket a duplicate of everything that was auctioned today.
