I guess I'm old too dude b63 February 17th but I seen them when they put this LP out siren 1975 at the Uptown Theater here in Chicago FirstRow unbelievable show my late brother Wally had won tickets through a phone in contest at one of the stations here in Chicago can't remember offhand what station it was but he won two tickets first row needless to say he gave me the other ticket fantastic show then I seen him at the Riviera Theater for the Avalon tour a few years later never forget them shows great band
Many years since Ive heard him! We were mad about him since he songs hit the American radios! Still so great, love many songs! I wish I woulda paid more attention to Roxy Music, and then him! But I am again now, and it is truly awesome! Noone like Bryan Ferry!
Yup ! I don't see him as just a session player. In my mind he was part of Roxy Music, their definitive bassist. He should have been officially inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the rest of the band.
I've come to see him as perhaps the most ridiculously underrated rock star of them all. Who compares? Bowie? From '75-'80, yes; but Roxy was *a!ways* for grownups. John Cale? He had a lot of help from Eno and Manzanera on Fear and he wrote about doomed romance in a rather fetching way... Can't think of anyone else to compare with BF. You know, he wrote so many great, unique-sounding songs, often with no co-writer and often featuring unusual structure or chord sequences, and yet I've never seen him photographed with an instrument (except for on the picture sleeve of Pyjamerama, which featured the whole band playing guitars). He mimed playing the organ (I think it was) when they were on Top Of The Pops with Virginia Plain, but that's about it.
I really remember this; I agree what has been said elsewhere; everything RM and BF did roles into this one track and one of their best if not most commercial. Love is the drug was massive and on same lp. But I think the only time Ferry used the war wounded look lol! I remember a genuine reason was given (which i thought was an eye infection rather than tennis injury but who knows). Given that Jagger had a patch on his eye around the time too, maybe BF hit him?!
haha. IDK when he gives the camera a smug look chewing gum, as it pans, it kinda looks like, hey, look at me in a world of swirling vapour, under spotlight, no 9-5 job in sight, cool beat, gorgeous women singing next to me, Ferry my leader in an eye patch, no, I don't feel sorry for him
The patch is from almost losing an eye from playing tennis at the time - you can see the bandaging underneath. The costume is because he pulls off a uniform really, really, well and looks hot in it
It is John Gustafson on bass. He toured with Roxy in 1975 after Wetton left. The best player they had and they had many greats like Wetton and Alan Spenner. R.I.P. Johnny
Bryan Ferry the profit was right again . Today's Climate of politics and Kyle Rittennhouse . Both end are burning . Thank you Bryan Ferry . I will Dance the night away .
I prefer it this slow, that was the music from them then, off key, a bit different etc, and I go back a long time, it was so cool at the time and even now.
When God dished out style and talent....Mr.Ferry got two helpings
The Sirens, yes.
I love that Roxy was always completely confident in their weirdness.
I'm old and saw this live. I will never forget it.
I saw them on this tour. Unforgettable.
You lucky guys!
Before the 80s
Me too with Jerry Hall as background singer dancer at Wembley. The audience were as well dressed as the band :)

Many years since Ive heard him! We were mad about him since he songs hit the American radios! Still so great, love many songs! I wish I woulda paid more attention to Roxy Music, and then him! But I am again now, and it is truly awesome! Noone like Bryan Ferry!

"Light Years Ahead of its Time "
John Gustafson...top bass player on this track...top bass player full stop!!
Yup ! I don't see him as just a session player. In my mind he was part of Roxy Music, their definitive bassist. He should have been officially inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the rest of the band.
When I had my detached retina last year I looked nowhere near as cool as Bryan sporting my eye patch !
Forgot how awesome this was
Sucks they cut it off. Best goddamn band in my lifetime.
You mean this butchered number?
It's just a lip-synch to the album track.
un gruppo grandioso. Fantastici
I saw Roxy music in oct 2022 still going strong Bryan Ferry different level lost for words still buzzing 4 days later
Bons tempos.
They are miming on this clip. Better version live from Wembley on RUclips somewhere
The epitome of smooth.
ClassicRoxy at their very best.
One o the best tracks
Just the best of everything rolled into one fantastic track, it simply does not get better than this.
Always loved this band. Nice to see an actual live performance.
High art!!!
Keep on burning till the end.
This is IT man.Brilliant.
God .Bryan ferry in uniform doesn’t get any sexier.😍😍😍😍
Bryan Ferry in uniform. Yeah, right? My favourite google search
Ferry is inimitable.
I've come to see him as perhaps the most ridiculously underrated rock star of them all.

I am burning whenever I see Bryan

Coke spoon in the eye

Both would be in their sixties today>>>Weird!
Paul B still would
Paul B and your point is ?
Doreen Chanter and Jacqui Sullivan, The "Siren Girls"

Classic stuff Bryan !!
Was this on Supersonic? Superb stuff, what a band.
Please God take Jason beaver and regetton mafia and bring us some more of this one.
Doreen & Jacqui 👍
eddie jobson was so cute
So did I at the Liverpool Empire great stuff.
does anyone here feel sorry for paul thompson to have all of that smoke coming down on him while everyone else is fine?
yeah
It’s just dry ice vapor, I reckon.
haha. IDK when he gives the camera a smug look chewing gum, as it pans, it kinda looks like, hey, look at me in a world of swirling vapour, under spotlight, no 9-5 job in sight, cool beat, gorgeous women singing next to me, Ferry my leader in an eye patch, no, I don't feel sorry for him
He's The Mighty Paul Thompson. He can deal. 😷
Not smoke. Dry ice or vapor
Classic.
Yupp👍 👍👍👍
Obvious where Duran Duran got their inspiration from :)
And the rest 😉
Both ends Burning......Red Hot Curry can do that .......👍🇬🇧🤓
I had a delicious Thai curry for dinner. Please stand by for further updates.
Chasbo Daniels I wait for further details......👍🇬🇧🤓
What a fucking song!
So what's with the costume and patch? Are we to believe Brian is gonna fly any plane any where with only one eye?
The patch is from almost losing an eye from playing tennis at the time - you can see the bandaging underneath. The costume is because he pulls off a uniform really, really, well and looks hot in it
Not plane, but Ferry 🤣
Not there biggest hit but for me there best .
Who is barely glimpsed on bass in this film? I thought it was John Wetton but not so.
John Gustafson recorded it,but i can't tell which john played bass there...
It is John Gustafson on bass. He toured with Roxy in 1975 after Wetton left. The best player they had and they had many greats like Wetton and Alan Spenner. R.I.P. Johnny
Roger Taylor at chorus... pretty good job. Isn't it?
how can you top having two hot stewardesses for backup singers?
I guess Ferry had some eye condition to have on that patch.
Can you be more precise. Which eye condition would you think it is?
He got hit in the eye with a tennis ball during a game of tennis.
First new wave song ever?
Can someone please re/edit video to fit the full length of the track.
I kept waiting for a guitar solo from Phil Manzanera but ....
If it's from Top Of The Pops, that's probably all there is.
Not Brian but Bryan
Anyone know the story behind the eye patch?
PepperWhite62 eye injury from getting hit by a tennis ball. He said he almost lost his eye.
Eddie Jobson.....on Keys??
Yep!
Bryan Ferry the profit was right again . Today's Climate of politics and Kyle Rittennhouse . Both end are burning . Thank you Bryan Ferry . I will Dance the night away .
why couldn't i have been born a gay man
revelationgritz I don't think Bryan Ferry is gay.
I think he's str8, but I getcha
You saying that, probably means that You were
GET A GRIP ! I'm a heavy rock n roller and Roxy Music
are one of my favourite ever bands !
@Dan Neumann No, it just means that he's virtuous......and an eejit!
Bryan looks like a boy scout.
Nooo,but a old military officer from 40s
Bryan Ferry looking like Moshe Dayan in this video
Is it me or the rythm is very slow ???
John RAMBO it's the original rhythm that's on the LP. The live version on Viva is much faster. 😉
I prefer it this slow, that was the music from them then, off key, a bit different etc, and I go back a long time, it was so cool at the time and even now.
I’m no expert, but this keeps shifting back and forth from a minor to a major key. Unusual, but hey, that’s them.
Does he really have an eye injury here ? 🤔
Rodolfo Alvarez Jr he almost lost his eye from getting it hit by a tennis ball. So it is an actual injury.
If you look closley, you can see the dressing under the eye patch.
Bowie looked cool with an eye patch in 74, whereas Ferry looks like someone's dad who's had a cataract operation😀
Mah, a me mi garba
