  • A gorgeous performance by the band:
    Bryan Ferry - vocals, keyboards
    Andy Mackay - saxophone, oboe
    Phil Manzanera - guitar
    Alan Spencer - bass
    Andy Newmark - drums
    Neil Hubbard - guitar
    Jimmy Maelen - percussion
    Guy Fletcher - keyboards
Fonzi Thornton, Michelle Cobbs, Tawatha Agee - backing vocals
    LYRICS:
Please don't ever let me down
'cause you know I'm not so sure
Do I have the speed to carry on
Burn you out of my mind, I know
You're a flame that never fades
    Jungle red´s a deadly shade
Both ends burning, will the fires keep
Somewhere deep in my soul tonight
    Both ends burning
    Burning
    Burn
Now my course is plain as day
    Running bold across to play
Both ends burning with a strange desire
That feeds the fire in my soul tonight
I will dance the night away
    Living only for today
Both ends burning while you're counting sheep
Hell-- who can sleep in this heat this night?
Tell me will I ever learn?
It's too late, the rush is on
Both ends burning and I can't control
The fires raging in my soul tonight
    Oh will it never end?
Put your foot around the bend
Drive me crazy to an early grave
Tell me what is there to save tonight
    Both ends burning
    Burning
    Burn
Keep on burning till the end, until the end
Keep on burning till the end, the very end

Saw Roxy back in 77', Detroit, what was billed as the 'Bryan Ferry show'...great concert, if I remember, Ferry was very wired, going through cocaine addiction, which he was able to kick..

What I find hysterically funny these days watching this again, is how almost nondescript the rest of the band is dressed compared to Bryan. It's like, Phil's like, I'm here to play guitar and sod all else! Same with Andy! Not wearing a fucking tux unless I"m getting paid to be the frontman which, I ain't!

[17 August 2021] I don't know about that, though. Real *POP* stars wear dinner jackets (smoking jackets) (gold lame suits a la Martin Fry of ABC), but I'm not sure about rockers. The thing about Bryan Ferry was that (at heart) he was never really a rock'n'roller - and certainly never that tawdry vulgar thing a "rawk staur" (the sort of creature who trashes hotel -rooms and wears sunglasses at night) - and always a *POP STAR* , an idol, an icon, a Pop Artist (who'd studied Pop Art, under the great Roy Hamilton) who turned himself into his own work of walkin' talkin' singin' dancin' pop art. You know what I mean? Bryan Ferry - on his own and with Roxy Music - sang the Mutant Pop ("mutant pop" is pop music *AS* Pop Art; it's what "Roxy music", as a descriptive phrase and not just the name of a band, really means), and not the Mutant Blues (the mutant blues is what rock'n'roll really is, before it's anything else). So he was always a pop star and never a rock star. Pop stars wear dinner-jackets, fancy suits, pommaded hair, cufflinks, etc., but rock stars don't.

He left after Manifesto, I believe.
      This is Andy Newmark,
      who is no slouch.
Newmark played with Sly and the Family Stone, John Lennon,
and he worked with Pink Floyd on the last album done with Roger Waters.
There’s a nod to Sly and the Family Stone during this Roxy show, in fact...
