    I love this comparison. I love companies battling out for better tech and I get excited about it. I would say I would still go for the GoPro. (Without thinking about the option for a 360 camera) it's more straightforward. In travels, I want to have less hassle in shooting. For a GoPro, you only need to take the battery off. For the Insta 360, you get 3 or 4 pcs that needs to be put together to have a camera. It can be annoying when you only have a few minutes to shoot. I'm also looking at the build for these modular mod system in the long run. How much "clicks" can they hold before they wear out. The camera for both are amazing though. I like how the insta 360 has their fov on post. I think there is a better flexibility than the GoPro. Thanks for the comparison!

      The Insta360 One RS does allow you to change the FOV in camera in the "standard video mode", this mode also applies flowstate stabilisation to the clip and takes away that post production step, just like the gopro. However unlike GoPro, the Insta360 One RS also offers "pro video" mode which captures everything. Further offering more digital lens options accessed via "insta360 studio". It's a great feature for filmmakers and content creators.

    I am fully sold on the Insta360. I had gopro 10, one r and gopro max over the last 2 years, and the camera that I ended up always using was the ONER. The main reason is the modularity, I can have the best of the hero 10 and gopro max just in 1 camera (sharing same battery, core, sd card, app...) and for a cheaper price, and I still have the chance to upgrade to new mods later on (I am tempted to get the 1-inch). I am selling the gopros and will get myself a ONE RS 4k boost edition, which I can combine with my existing 360 lenses

    I tend to find the GoPro colours far too dark and unnatural looking, and you lose a lot of detail. For example, the timelapse, you lost all the trees, while the clouds are more contrast, that's not what they usually look like. In the beach shot, you can barely see the sand directly in front of the Hero 10, where the One RS is clear and detailed. I will say, though, that I would agree the Insta360 is a primarily POST production camera, but the app is so good even novice action camera users can simply click and create multiple versions of their content from a single clip. I created 6 different videos from a single recording on the 360 mod, with different focuses, effects, colour grading and even added music and text while doing nothing but...clicking premade scenes in the app in about 10 min. As opinion goes, love the thought and explanation you put into your feelings on the cameras.

    Great comparison Jake! 🙏 I think the Insta360 One RS is somewhat better in low light and definitely a lot better in photos cause of the bigger sensor but i generally find that the GoPro is the better action cam out of the two. I just wish GoPro is gonna use a bigger sensor soon, maybe the GoPro 11, then i will be glad to stay in the GoPro team but if they take forever, then the Insta360 might be a better option down the road... 🤔 Let's see what this competition will bring!

    I’m so glad i came back and rewatched this. My one RS has been glitchy and i made the decision to return it and get the GoPro 10 and a dedicated 360. I need better audio with the action camera part and really like the footage you got from the GoPro in the comparison. I’m really enjoying your channel as I enter into learning about action cameras and how to begin my channel (a subject that often wouldn’t need an action camera, but i think it adds to the fun). Thank you!

    3:09 -- I think it's hilarious you had to mention this and it tells me you've had a lot of comments like mine since your (maybe?) last video discussing the OneR. Let's be clear: having an opinion isn't the issue. It's when you offer misleading, or incomplete information in your content to justify your opinion that's a problem. People like me will get snippy because you're essentially just telling people "get a GoPro" and there is a lot of distinction in the OneR that consumers should consider and a reasonable reviewer would put in some effort to point it out even if they still recommend a GoPro overall. I can watch 5 videos where people come to the same conclusion that the GP10 is more capable for normal action cam stuff, but yours is the only one that actually annoys me because somehow it paints a picture of camera derping along producing ugly and sub-par quality versus one that just "nails it" and the distinction between the two couldn't be further from the truth. I'm going to be more brief than I was the last time starting from the conclusion:
    GP10 is a clear winner in terms of normal action camera capability tech specs. 5.3K@60fps beats the OneR/RS with 1" mod that can do 5.3K@30fps. GP10 does 4k@120fps and the OneR/RS still tops at 4k@60fps with either 4K lens (original or boost). It's somewhat strange that Insta360 released a new camera two years later and didn't bump those specs at all. See how easy that was? I agree with you that the GP10 is clearly a better normal action camera than the OneRS in terms of high end video capture specs. Now where you fail as an impartial gear reviewer:
    You say the GoPro10 costs $350. It only costs that much if you subscribe for at least 2 years, so you're spending $450 on this camera if you're looking at it in isolation. Someone like you may get one per year making it, at best $400 (that year's subscription cost + camera), but most people aren't buying a new action camera every single year so who are you producing content for? Kind of a bigger difference to say $299 versus $399; or even $299 versus $450 for most buyers isn't it? And price difference matters for the rest of the review because a lot of consumers would be very happy spending $299 and getting the OneRS.
    4:10 -- you mention you didn't do good job with the OneRS color grading, but 1) that's an understatement. That's intentional sabotage terrible color. You can see a lot of purple in her hair and that's not from the camera. 2) You still chose to show your ugly work attached to the OneRS. Your words of "just look at the dynamic range" don't negate the impact of showing ugly footage for one of the cameras. Also, what dynamic range? Nothing in that shot is close to demonstration of dynamic range. You know what usually gives a camera better dynamic range? A larger sensor and backside illumination -- but you don't want to talk all that jargon.
    5:46 -- the GP10 is properly exposed for the clouds so there is plenty of detail in them. That's what you do in photography or videography: you expose for what you want the viewer to see the most detail from and it looks better. The OneRS is exposed for the sand making the clouds too far in the highlights so you can't see as much detail. I can eyeball the image difference and tell how you messed up the OneRS shot; and further I know that any half decent camera can capture the cloud detail present in the GP10 image. It took effort to make the Insta360 appear to fail there. I own a OneR and it can easily capture that image even with older lenses. Even a cheapo Runcam would be able to capture the same level of details in the clouds as the GP10.
    Low light tests are about image noise. Somehow you avoid showing what the noise level difference is during the very test that should be looking at it. Why you have a huge color appearance difference is baffling and I won't hazard a guess why. Nice that you get to talk about that instead of the relevant part of a low light comparison where a bigger sensor is pretty much guaranteed to win because...laws of physics.
    That you mention the desktop app as a problem at this point is very much misleading because the big change in the OneRS is that it can do full in-camera FlowState stabilization like the GoPro so you don't need any post-production work. Set everything up in camera, and you have a video file you're ready to use. If you're using the desktop app, you're doing it because you want to change the field of view, or try out other software methods to stabilize. That you can do this cannot be considered a disadvantage because you can ignore it. Even the OneR's firmware update some months ago added basic FlowState stabilization in-camera, which to many people is more than enough to use if they want to skip post processing.
    If you didn't want to talk about the 360 lens in the OneRS, why did you feel the need to knock the 360 lens for not being great under water? Fishing for a way to put it down much?
    The above issues aren't just mistakes either. They're intentional because this is an edited video; edited with a non-action camera for the exposition so you know what you're doing in terms of camera settings and how to make an image look good, and how to mess it up while pretending like you're making an apples to apples comparison. I don't buy the whole nice and honest guy front. This RUclips thing is your hussle and I can respect that. But you're and outlier in terms of action camera bias. I'm just waiting for someone to expose you as a GoPro evangelist.
    And what you left out:
    The active HDR capability of the new OneRS lens. GP10 has a comparable feature built in that is also very nice and gave it a nice advantage in some situations. The OneRS phone app is best in class. The ability to edit and export footage directly to your phone and framed for social media is unmatched. Battery life for the OneRS is better, it manages heat far better. Lastly, Insta360 has had major firmware feature updates for the OneR, and the phone+desktop apps more frequently than once a year.
    Alternative opinion to consider offering:
    Though 4k@120 and 5.3k@60 are lovely high end specs, do people really need it or have a use for it right now? As a casual action camera user without a serious RUclips channel (and not aspiring to be either), even my 4k@60 footage is pretty unnecessary as I've not really had a great use for them. I have a 4K 40" monitor, and 5.3k hasn't even done much for me either.

    The GoPro 10 to me looks considerably better in nearly all the comparisons. Sharper, better color, better low light. Of course the whole point of the One RS is to be able to convert it to a 360 camera or even add the 1 inch sensor and that changes the game. While the modularity is cool I still think if you have the $$$$ having a *dedicated* camera for each filming type gives you both superior quality and it actually makes changing between each easier as there is no need to disassemble cameras, no matter how easy Insta360 has made it. To me today, the GoPro Hero 10 / One X2 combo is the way to go. I'm assuming Hero 11, One X3, MAX 2, and a GoPro Insta360 Go competitor are all coming this year so by the end of the year the "best" may look very different.

    • @0tispunkm3y3r
      @0tispunkm3y3r 2 года назад

      For me the GoPro video looks nicer, but then the photos from the Insta360 look better. But not because they have more resolution, but because the colours look nicer, warmer. But it is hard to look beyond the GoPro for a lot of things. One thing they consistently seem to be a lot better at is the audio recording from the microphones. Even when Insta added additional mics to the RS and One X2, they still sound pretty poor and pick up a lot of wind noise.

    • @raziel8321
      @raziel8321 Год назад

      It is the opposite. The GoPro 10 has unnatural colors, much too strong. Everything is oversaturated and artificially emphasized. Details are lost and contrasts become stronger. The Insta RS shows more details in the video if you look closely. Where the gopro is just black, the insta shows details and gradations.Especially in low light, the picture is much better, more details, brighter, less noise, sharper.
      What the Gopro can really do much better is stabilization. This makes it the first choice for filming in motion.

    Jake, I think you finally made up my mind! Thank you! I bought the Go Pro 10 a few days go, as it was on sale at Best Buy here in Toronto until yesterday. Since I was a bit hasty (and not checking too many reviews before buying), I decided to wait before unpacking my Go Pro, as I still have the 30-day- if still packaged- return policy. Yours is about the 7th, in-depth, RUclips review between the Go Pro 10 and the Insta360 RS, I've watched. I've also read a few as well. Since I don't care about the 360 degrees (though it looks like fun), I'm going to stick with the Go Pro 10. The Insta360 has the one-inch sensor, which is better in really low light, but I would use my Sony RX100VA or Sony a7C for night video/photography. Also, I like the video quality as much (or more), from the Go Pro, as wells the wide-angle, stability, photos, etc. Oh yeah! There is a really good video here somewhere, where a guy shows a bunch of settings which can make video at night from the Go Pro actually look surprisingly good!

    Hi Jake and Anna. I hope all is doing well for you. I did watch that video again..and this was pretty interesting actually and confirms I did the good choice for MY action cam I mean for most of my outdoors activities😜. Anyway having a Gopro10/11 and a Insta360 X3 now and learning concurrently all around both cam's including PC's related Applications to play with pics and vids .. quite challenging 🙃but I was told in IT Software Industry as a Fast Learner for years..😉so it will be fine. 😎 Actually Gopro's and 360's cams do not have "the same scope of action" I mean this is clearly a different approach to do the things as said in that video, it's a matter of choice. Just considering the example of nautical and underwater activities and all is said...😉

    360 lens underwater doesn't work due to refractive index of water being different to air. Normally flat lenses sort this out. I think the dive case for the 360 cameras does a pretty good job of sorting the blurry-ness out, but you do get that portion of the video where they can't stitch out the housing itself, so you have to be careful with positioning the camera.

    Hello guys, first of all thank you for the great review!!!
    I need help. I am a cyclist. I ride 70% on the road and 30% in the mountains. I am a cycle tourist, I enjoy discovering new places, photographing monuments and highlights, etc.
    So far I have photographed monuments, nature, simply highlights with my cell phone.
    If I do this with my cell phone I either have to stop or do it while driving, which is often dangerous!!!!!!!!!!
    A) I'm looking for an alternative, namely a camera on the helmet or on the chest. I take photos while driving (with a cell phone or remote control), but I want to see them immediately after I take them. E.g. On the display of the mobile phone attached to the handlebars of the bicycle, whether the photo is OK, etc.
    B) Alternatively, I would also like to make a video and later take out the pictures using some program.
    What is important to me is that the photos must contain GPS data, otherwise the Komoot app will not accept them. I also want the photos to be at least reasonably high quality. But I fear that removing them from the video will compromise quality. I would also like to say that I stay on my bike for 4-6 hours and it is a problem to create 4K videos (battery life, overheating, etc.).
    Can someone please advise me which of these two cameras (gopro 10 or insta 360 4k edition) do you recommend for my purposes? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      With the current firmware you can select some but not all and only in “pro video”. In Insta360 studio it offers more options for digital lenses like “FPV mode” which is the widest FOV offering and would be awesome to see it a available in camera!

    could anyone share their views on how the 1-inch sensor of the Insta360 might look compared to GoPro10 in a scuba diving setting (i.e., deeper depths with less light). i thought of getting the Insta360, but here I like the footage of the GoPro better. however, I am not sure whether this changes in a scuba setting. there is definitely a considerable price difference between the two

      Did you ever find an answer? I’m wondering the same exact thing

    • @kevinschneider5285
      @kevinschneider5285 2 года назад

      @@HawaiianKong i could not find a definite answer but there are a couple of videos that have footage under water. personally i think the 360 looks better in them. see e.g. 8:45 in watch?v=P8kn6Q9fJDU&t=807s, or watch?v=oIKGwkIRoxI. you can also search specifically for "insta360 vs gopro low light" and there are a lot of videos (on land). again the insta36 seems sharper in those and gives more natural colors. i think in scuba diving a lot comes down to editing anyway. the price difference in the EU is considerable, so if you are on a budget I think the gopro can result in equally good footage once edited. an important difference to keep in mind is that the gopro can shoot 120fps at 4k while the insta360 is stuck at 60fps. if you swim with sharks or anything like that the extra slow-motion effect of the gopro is an advantage. but in view of the videos I found in low light, I ended up buying the insta360 and I will test it in egypt this summer.

    Nice comparison vid! I have a Hero 9 and a Max 360, but I bought those before the Hero 10 and One RS came out and obviously spent more for my combo than a 10 or RS would cost separately. I think, so far, the combo I have can produce anything close enough to a 10 or RS to make it hard to spot a difference (except the Max does make the hand look weird). 4k 360 would be nice though. I'm surprised there hasn't been a Max 360 upgrade in awhile.

    GoPro10 does overheat quickly ... I use the 'old' InstaR too, and that one, ... doesn't. (both shooting at 5.4K) .
    Image quality wise... I think the Insta is bit better, at least what I see in the studio. Only 'downside' , you can't use it at close ranges (less then 0.5meter).
    But in the studio, I need to do some tricks to get the GoPro10 running for 30 minutes since it will overheat in 15 minutes mostly ... Solution is to remove the battery and use USB-C power, but, you need a hefty powerbank (more then 3Amps output) and, doesn't always 'start' right. ... but lately I found that just opening the battery door, with the battery in it, and using external power, does work more stable (I got a 45 minute video session out of it).
    I do 'hate' the 'lego' like construction of the Insta, especially with the old 1'' version.. you have to remove the front lens to get it out of the case.... annoying. I haven't used the RS version though... since, I didn't see that much of an improvement and... these are still expensive camera's....
    I have used the 'old' 360 of Insta, which is 'fine', not to great.... was interested in their new 360 1'' camera, but... it's not waterproof, which is a bummer... (and... freakingly expensive!! 900 bucks for a 360 camera, ehr... in times of recession and high inflation)

    I just made today an indoor recording of half an hour both with the Go pro 10 and the insta 360. The Insta of course is much cheaper and has a nice modular design. THe image quality of the go pro was in my case much, much better, warmer colors. The sound of the insta is terrible in comparison with the go pro. Of course, the Go pro has the well known overheat problem. Still, I think to upgrade also the go pro to Go pro 11. As this video clearly shows, humans look much paler with the insta. I really prefer the color profile of the Go pro.

    Did you take the underwater shoots using the dive case with the insta360 one rs or just by assembling together the mounting case and all the pieces needed to build the camera? I'm wondering if the waterproof property holds in real case scenarios or it's just a marketing thing made by the company since all the complaining I've been reading about the water entering in the camera

    HELP! I have had both the list 360 One RS and the insta 360 X2. underwater with the 360 module it is not possible to use the cameras without the original case. images are blurry and lacking in detail. but even with the 4K module I had problems it doesn't have enough image definition. I used the 4K module without a case and the image was not as good as the GoPro 8 I had. so I would say that today GoPro is much better for underwater shooting.
