Interesting is your point of view. If Mike had taken solos , the performance must have been too long……It might take 30minutes or more……Too heavy duty for bassist & drummer…… I made a worthless assumption, I'm afraid.
I think it's a respect thing. You are never gonna top Coltrane's solo on "Transition," Jesus Christ couldn't, I used to own every last Coltrane album, and that is arguably one of his single best solos. I was just watching the Wynton Marsalis guys covering "Ole" and they did the same thing..."we're not even gonna try."
The second- best version of the trane's classic. Roy digs it! He reminds me of Mr. Hubbard. And Herbie is TERRIFIC!!! His play is chilling……I'm afraid to say the 2nd drums solo is unnecessary. It's a pity there's no space for Mike……But that's the choice they made.
everything is awesome. herbie's comping especially is mindblowing.
4:00-4:06 - (Listen to Herbie's comping and Willie's drumming. I love *dark* swing!)
Outstanding all!
4:11 The lick DOUBLE COMBO!
Lol...yep that was it!
i felt 70's period Tony in there ...highest compliment i can give
lo mejor de lo mejor ,gracias
beside everyone else, monster drummer n Roy's solo is so huge...
what in the world.....willie jones........powerful

Who's in the group besides Herbie?
If wikipedia is right the concert can not have been in 2002 as Willie died in 1991 ?
You prob. figured it out by now, but its actually Willie Jones, Jr. (don't know if there is a relation)
Herbie is great, as usual, yet...isn't it ironic that there is no tenor sax solo here...???

beside length and the fact that Roy 's killin, listen to another tune where Mike 's soloing
