What do you think about the Pico Neo 2 specs? Do you think this is going to be the future of standalone VR headsets? It supports us if you watch the entire video, but for those in lack of time, the timestamps are in the description! ♥
What is the latency like for controller tracking? It would be cool for someone to check how well it works for Beat Saber, which is kinda the benchmark for tracking. Can you see IR LED's of eye tracking system with phone camera when headset is on? How good is build quality? Honestly, this color of plastic makes it look low quality for me for some reason.
One of the issues with Bluetooth is latency. Considering how much work they poured into their audio stack, they probably don't want us to take that trade-off between latency and comfort.
Oculus better adopt some of these features fast. The eye tracking and electromagnetic controller tracking are excellent technologies to have in VR. I like Oculus's ecosystem and prefer to stick with it...but I won't wait forever.
@@portoricopotato5401 Oculus seems to be working on their own custom solution that looks to use less hardware. I wouldn't be surprised if they can integrate it into the Quest successor without substantially increasing the cost.
The old Razer Hydra has electromagnetic controllers, I remember back then to read why image capturing is better than magnetic, it will be interesting to get some technical details on the pros and cons of this over cameras.
The oculus touch controllers have already inertial measurement units (IMUs) - that’s what she’s referring to. They have also camera tracking to improve the IMU’s tracking (since IMUs drift over time).
I think we cant blame oculus for not going all-in with the technical specs as the concept had to be proven first. But I'm with you, that oculus should really go big on specs with the next generation of quest. The ecosystem and fanbase is there. Now deliver the best hardware possible.
Let's not forget the Oculus Quest is their first 6DoF standalone headset too and the Pico Neo 2 is Pico's 2nd! I'm with you though. I hope to see the Quest 2 with some nice upgrades.
FTW Mohawkman Yes, got it! I should have checked experimental features. Quest didn’t have Bluetooth before and is why I assumed that it still didn’t, so I stand corrected. Very happy it does support it now.
You can install android settings via sideloader as well and use bluetooth android options, basically natively on your/via Oculus Quest. It will connect pretty much anything. It's even better than beta option. I connected my cheap bluetooth earphones no problem.
In Asia, it is available for consumers :) Not sure why they don't bring it out here, but I still don't think we should switch to this headset even if it was available for consumers in the West. Still not enough content.
I love the ASMR removing the plastic coverings. I am genuinely interested in this headset, looks pretty neat. The chargeable controllers are ideal for me I hate having the replace/recharge AA butteries for my quest controller. Steam VR ready is also highly appealing to me. Would love to see more of this headset in action with some high end VR gameplay, such as HL Alyx or anything similar.
I don't mind using rechargeable batteries because if you have 4 of them, you can have others charged and ready to go at any time when your current batteries run out of juice. Just being able to charge them means you have to wait until they charge or constantly forget to plug them in. Pros and cons, though.
@TayoEXE Great point, swapping out batteries does minimize wait time between games. Yet having to charge the headset itself makes it kinda irrelevant because there’s still a wait time eventually. Maybe I’m just annoyed of having to pop in batteries, removing my controller sheath. My PS4 controller does a full charge in about 20mins. The Quest is great but this headset shows its flaws.
@@silenthashassin8912 That wait time you have to charge the headset can be drastically minimized too. Most battery packs are the perfect counterweight, and can provide a good 8 extra hours... at which time you should absolutely be ready for a couple hours of breaktime lol -- at this point there are several packaged 3rd party solutions if you don't want to velcro a battery pack to the back of your straps lol :)
Please like this for important info: THIS IS NOT A CONSUMER HEADSET This is not being marketed as a consumer product to compete with the Quest. It has better specs but has zero access to any of the great content already on Quest's store or Sidequest. It is for enterprise use and finds a market among businesses that want a better headset for testing and business purposes. Don't go regretting your decision to get a Quest because if you had this instead, it would have cost you twice as much with next to no content to play standalone, unless you have a powerful PC to play SteamVR and a fast router. Actually, you can connect bluetooth Audio-Devices to the Quest and even out of the Box. Just go to experimental features and choose the bluetooth connect something. Worked fine with bluetooth speakers of mine.
Awesome content! I have become a VR content addict now. Btw, I think eye tracking should totally be a thing in future headsets. It’s pretty useful for some game concepts, but it is especially engaging in social VR.
This is definitely a great look into the future and makes me even more excited for the next stand alone headset that Oculus is currently developing. I think VR technology is an amazing tech, that has more non-gaming use than it's currently receiving. I hope that virtual training modules become more accessible and popular among different industries. A 30-60 minute training module, with hands on training, that can be sent to hundreds or even thousands of individual headsets which can in return each be used by multiple employees, workers, or students is incredible. I hope that there are more pioneers into the non entertainment side of VR development.
Exactly this too! I love VR gaming, but how incredible is VR for education (and other areas) as well? I am jealous of our kids who might actually learn everything in VR in the future.

Nailed the removing of the plastic coverings! If the Steam games over wireless were 100% and eye tracking for foveated rendering could be used at a driver level for all Steam programmes this headset could be an absolute game-changer, as eye tracked foveated rendering has been shown to yield big results in CPU/GPU overhead optimisation. Also considering price and features, if this had the expanded library of content I would think it could do ok in the consumer market as well.
I love seeing this technology, even if it is way too expensive for the consumer market. If the next Quest is close to as good as this thing and only ~$500, I'll be very happy to upgrade to it.
Problem is with the streaming is I havnt seen any support for it on games yet, I'm pretty sure using the oculus touch controls works because they are the same layout

This VR headset is very interesting. Do you know if I can play Fallout 4 VR and Skyrim VR with it ? two things I do not like about it, is: 1) no AA batteries for the controllers, so after 2 hours gaming, I am forced to stop, so the controllers can recharge... 2) the headstrap thats made of some kind of rubber band or so looks like it is going to snap easier than on the Oculus Quest. But thats just my assumption. Anyhow, thanks for posting this video.

Hi I had a large request/question to ask a Pico Neo RUclipsr, I need to know if you can get GTA 5’s Vr mod working in Virtual Desktop without a wire on this headset. That’s the only reason I want it. I need to know if it will work with the Vr mod. If you own gta 5 already on steam, I would appreciate you helping me figure this out. We have a VR treadmill and we are trying to produce a video on playing GTA 5 in VR. We will credit you in our RUclips video if you help us out.
For the future i really want an oculus quest v2 with eyes tracking and better snapdragons processors this two features can upgrade the power of the quest and the tracking of the neo 2 is amazing ! 4k is not obligatory for me
It does seem to have the issue I was predicting. In other words, software sells. It's not really competing with gaming and consumer headsets, but I like seeing it push things forward. That EM 6DoF tracking has me very curious actually, but right now, Oculus easily has a monopoly on the standalone VR software market. This headset cannot access that store or even sidequest, so it has next to no native support. It only seems viable to use it for streaming SteamVR or the obvious enterprise uses and private software and testing.
Thanks for the great review. I've seen streaming of steam games on 5g networks and the quality looks pretty good. Is it also possible to tether the neo2 to a pc via the USBC cable and if so can it play steam games similar to the quest 2?
What a great video! I found myself enticed the whole way. You explained everything very well and I felt interested in what you had to say :) Thank you for making this!
I love my Quest, but I loath FB as a company. So, I am looking at alternatives. But not being able to link to PC via cable and access Oculus store games would be a bummer. I can already wirelessly use Steam VR on my Quest via Virtual Desktop. And I wish they did the controllers disposable battery powered!
Not having access to Oculus' store or even Sidequest is what I thought would kill it and unfortunately make it kind of useless as a standalone headset. At least the Quest had 50 or so titles ready to go at launch.
The difference in content is not even comparable. Quest has new original titles out every week, and its community integration with Sidequest, Rift, Steam, and Facebook is insane
The only redeeming factor for consumers contentwise is the integration with Steam VR. It depends how much they are going to support and develop it from here on out. It has potential of the community is going to embrace it.
This is the primary concern I've got with waiting for and adopting any of these standalone HMDs from other manufacturers; obscure closed ecosystems. Adopting the Quest is secure; guaranteed support for development/library, backwards compatibility when upgrading to Quest 2. Hence Sidequest, hand/finger tracking, Virtual Desktop, massive library. Waiting for and adopting these HMDs from other manufacturers is a gamble. Even with better specs at the moment (until Quest 2 releases), the lack of content, development support, and being locked into an ecosystem with non-transferrable library if you'd decide to upgrade to Quest 2 or any HMD from a differing manufacturer; has got me on the fence. I think the more secure route is to adopt a Quest and upgrade to whatever Oculus' successor standalone HMD is.
Look really good. Don't really like the controllers and the lack of content is bad thing and not really for me. But i would love to have a similar headset with a more comfortable controllers and access to either stem vr games or oculus games. So Oculus can learn from this headset.
Great first look/review! :) This is a interesting headset for sure.. my only gripe with it is that its targeted to business.. they said that from day one, but all the trailers I've seen for this has som guy or girl playing games on it, for the most part. I think maybe the marketing strategy for this headset is kinda weird, saying one thing doing the exact opposite. I guess they wont produce a ton of these and just sell big shipments to developers, businesses etc. But! my god, the eyetracking thing and foviated rendering based on where you're looking, is a real game changer. Imagine the performance you potentially could tweak out of that headset. To be honest, i actually expected this to be a bit crap, but it actually looks quite solid, both in hardware and in software. Also a very clever way of tracking controllers. Only time will tell if this sell or not i guess. I'm sticking to the quest any day though :)
Great video! Industry design of this headset is bad, at least looks bad. OS UI is also looks like prototype. But with eye tracking, it's interesting to see if they can come up with some interesting and useful apps eventually.
And I'm here all out of the sudden thinking about selling my 2 months old oculus quest 2 with all accessories and games included. But, I'll need to see the resolution, if it's better I'm all in.
I think if Pico Neo manages to make it work with just SteamVR somehow, then I think not only will they compete with Quest, they might outsell them as that sounds like a better deal. Buying a wireless headset that can handle your SteamVR games
@@CasandChary Thanks. I am quite upset about those dishonest specs so I wrote this post fyi www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/h0w2ol/the_pico_neo_2_weights_690g_and_not_350g_like_the/?
Вот бы в Oculus Quest 2 добавили бы тоже такой же трекинг контроллеров, да + отслеживание пальцев. Не будет больше этих кругов, которые мешают, будет что-то ближе к наклзам, эх, здорово быть в будущем
I have to say, it is an interesting piece of technology. Really nice upgrade with the new snapdragon CPU, and at the same time the RAM. I really appreciated the SD, but it raised few questions like, what performances would look like if you have to play games from it. The battery on the back is a nice improvement over the front weight of the quest for sure. The bluetooth function is awesome. You forgot to mention the two camera features like resolution, what they're used for (I guess they're used for room setup and passthrough mode). I don't really get why the 4k display, as being a LED display it would look good with lower resolution, and maybe that would allow for higher refresh rate instead. I like the eye tracking, I might wanna test if to see if I would actually prefer having that of not (I've never tried any eye-tracking technology yet). I don't really like the controllers unfortunatly, but they have a good amount of inputs. It would have been really nice if you could have showed more about the setup process, like the playspace setup and/or IPD adjustment, but anyway really nice video. Overall, a good improvement from oculus quest. I'm still not going for a stand-alone as I'm sticking with my valve index for the time being, maybe in the future.
I cants see people buying this for gaming, content sells consoles and vr devices and the quest even though is second in hardware is far superior in many ways, and is always getting better with the recent talks to merge side quest to the quest without need of a pc just adds more content to more people and the price is ridiculous, it’s definitely mainly for business use. But regardless of this I’m glad another stand alone is here, more competition always works out best for consumers
It looks better than the Quest in many ways . The biggest problem I think VR now needs to solve in my opinion is how to make VR less tiring for your eyes. Maybe it's just me but I get really tired eyes , even after a small time using VR
I actually just got an oculus quest and use it to game, had it for about 2 days now and just realized i never took off the screen protectors this whole time.. Loll
No hand tracking. WebXR compatible yes, with Firefox Reality. BUT, lots of WebXR games like Moonrider doesn't work as the controllers aren't recognized.

Thanks for the great review. I've seen streaming of steam games on 5g networks and the quality looks pretty good. Is it also possible to tether the neo2 to a pc via the USBC cable and if so can it play steam games similar to the quest 2?
What is the FOV? What is the pixel density?
I would like to know what games are downloadable on the Pico Neo 2? Can I play games like Arizona Sunshine or would you need to connect it to the PC?
What a great video! I found myself enticed the whole way. You explained everything very well and I felt interested in what you had to say :) Thank you for making this!
Now I need a development project to justify purchasing something like this. Is it AR capable?
I'm not sure about AR.. I don't think the cameras are good enough for it
Never knew fnf had a vr headset
I gave up trying to get a Quest as it is always out of stock. I’ll wait for Quest 2.0. Hope it gets inspiration from the Pico Neo.
Quest 2.0 is probably coming out in 4 years so it’s probably best to just get a quest when it’s in stock
@@PizzaLuigi1 that message aged poorly lmao
Seth Sainz no it did not lol
@@PizzaLuigi1 loooool, quest 2 it is amiright
@@PizzaLuigi1 $400 less with better support, and likely better tracking, as well as link support, and also a 90hz display
Analog sticks and eye tracking. I don't know of another system that provides these 2 features together. As such, this has my interest.
have fun twiddling your thumbs for months at a time while something interesting maybe releases for it though... unless you're a dev, yourself?
I love my Quest, but I loath FB as a company. So, I am looking at alternatives. But not being able to link to PC via cable and access Oculus store games would be a bummer. I can already wirelessly use Steam VR on my Quest via Virtual Desktop. And I wish they did the controllers disposable battery powered!
Battery life? Battery replaceable?
Can the Pico Neo 2 play media (3D 180 degree movies for instance) wirelessly via a DLNA server like the Oculus Quest can?
Content will be what kills the Pico Neo 2 before it even gets released.
@@TayoEXE that's why it is for enterprises. You can make your own vr game for vr arcades (providing you own one) and use this hmd and charge money
When you were peeling off the plastic you should have made the background music really dramatic, like some bass drops
Good idea for next time!
Can you please tell me the display quality and SDE while watch movies.thankyou.
This is the future, come on oculus we art counting on you
Bruh
The official website says Pico Neo 2 weights 350g so I ordered it for the low weight and now you tell me it weights 690g... I am so confused.
I was confused too, the 350 gram is their weight of the front of the headset ONLY. So without the headband. 690g is WITH the headband.
@@CasandChary Thanks. I am quite upset about those dishonest specs so I wrote this post fyi www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/h0w2ol/the_pico_neo_2_weights_690g_and_not_350g_like_the/?
Lol coulda added some music to that eye lense peel😂
Hello Cas, how is quality wireless streaming in Pico Neo 2 in for example Doom FVR opposite to Quest + Virtual Desktop VR. Thanks...
Maybe I miss understood, but I can play all my Steam VR and Occulus store Games wireless on my Quest.
Вот бы в Oculus Quest 2 добавили бы тоже такой же трекинг контроллеров, да + отслеживание пальцев. Не будет больше этих кругов, которые мешают, будет что-то ближе к наклзам, эх, здорово быть в будущем
great review as always
i like to eat those stickers once i peel them off, its a control thing
WOW!! ... looks good ... now if only I could buy it in the UK!!! ......
I wonder how well thus works with things like Revive
Great review. Next up i hope is the Steam vr capabilities of this device.
I love this girl, she's soooo professional...
Nice work! Keep it up!
How do you update and get more games I see more games on pico app
This is my first time seeing your videos and I love them super high quality great explications showing everything about the headsets 10/10 I love it
Welcome!
I'm receiving one of these shortly, thank s for the review :)
Sounds cool but I would wait for Quest 2 in the works now. Next year it will be debuted they are saying
We need an oculus and Pico crossover
I actually just got an oculus quest and use it to game, had it for about 2 days now and just realized i never took off the screen protectors this whole time.. Loll
Awesome video. I think Quest is more towards gamers and VR enthusiasts, but Pico is towards business (Some can call it Chinese Oculus Quest).
But what the people really want to know is, how good is the tracking in Beat Saber?
Is there hand-tracking? is there a WebXR-capable web browser for loading A-Frame websites?
No hand tracking. WebXR compatible yes, with Firefox Reality. BUT, lots of WebXR games like Moonrider doesn't work as the controllers aren't recognized.
Wow this really is Quest 2.0 that's a pretty impressive lot, and the price is good all things considered
Here’s hoping this raises the bar for the Quest 2
