- Now it is time to pursue the evil Mr. X... who is totally NOT Wily! I mean... Wily does not have a beard! Yup, by scientific reasoning there is no way he can be Wily! ahem Anyways... the first of Mr. X's fortress stages is actually... incredibly short. Now that we have moved onto the fortress stages as well, I shall start using my weapons freely, although me being me I tend to stick to the buster and Rush adaptors anyways... except for bosses. There is also a really large, but tricky to reach, short-cut in this stage as well. Naturally I take it since I want to show this rarely-taken route to you all~
The boss of this stage is a bit on the strange side... but thankfully it is rather easy to take down with its weakness. Just be careful to not get yourself pinned hopelessly into a corner and you should be fine.

Gotta love how the sprite flicker at around 0:28 makes Mega Man look like he's talking

actually, there is a safe way in Mr. x's first stage, for the secret pathway.. if you jump on the 1st flip platform, then jump cross it(the same flip platform that you just flipped over) to the 2nd flip platform, then safely land back on the 1st flip platform... after that, jump back to the 2nd flip platform and hit the glass.

Thanks, worked way better than just trying to get lucky. I actually find that intentionally falling back down to the previous screen while trying to punch the glass is a better strategy than risking the spikes. Unlike most things in Megaman, the glass will not respawn if you leave the screen.
That jump at 1:18 is brutal
My trick is to not do it in one go, but to go back to the stationary platform on the left after jumping on the second platform for the first time. Then it's in place next to the breakable wall, and on your second go you can break the wall immediately after jumping from the first platform to the second.
Scaling the building that looks so much like the MM2 opening's is so sick and makes it my favorite endgame stage 1 of all the classics!
I love this music so much, but that boss... ugh. I would always lose track of 'em and just use Blizzard Attack, since it can sorta sweep the entire vertical distance of the room. And it works (sometimes).

I don’t remember playing this much as a kid. Maybe by this point SNES was out. Anyway, I’m playing it on my PS5 now and love it. Impressive graphics for NES and outstanding score.

Ugh, that hidden path...trying to get there is the only place I really notice those control issues you speak of.
I use the Power Adapter on the boss here. It does the same damage as the Flame Burst, is easier to hit with, and knocks it in the other direction.
I feel that this boss is way easier using just the power adaptor's charge shot. it deals around 4 dmg and bounces them back the other direction. Truthfully, i didnt even know that you could damage them with anything besides that %_%
It is the way Megaman defeat them in the manga as well.

That first boss is weak to quite a few powers: Flame, Plant, Knight & Rush Power too. Maybe some more I am unaware of.

I hope you're joking, but if not - how is that bad level design? You learn about the flip thingies before they're used in a dangerous way, and even when they are you can see what's coming and there's no surprise bullshit.
It's an optional route too, so you don't have to take it.
By far this is the best mega man game and Centaur man is the best robot...lmao
