    Lyrics:
    Commander, commander
    Mission control
    Gravity zero
    Pray for my soul
Tell my family I love them
Don't forget to kiss the children
Tell me, why do I have to be the one?
    Gone beyond my limits
    Hotter than the sun
No, I can't handle this at all
    Got connected fever
And I'm bouncin' off the walls
    Commander, commander
    I'm losin' my mind
    Break up the silence
    Give me a sign
Give me static, give me noises
Let me hear some human voices
Tell me, why do I have to be the one?
    Gone beyond my limits
    Hotter than the sun
No, I can't handle this at all
    Got connected fever
And I'm bouncin' off the walls
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    Bouncin' off the walls...
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    I'm bouncin' off the walls
Tell me, why do I have to be the one?
    Gone beyond my limits
    Hotter than the sun
No, I can't handle this at all
    Got connected fever
And I'm bouncin' off the walls
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    Bouncin' off the walls...
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    Bouncin' off the walls
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    Bouncin' off the walls
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    Bouncin' off the walls
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    (Hey hey hey hey)
    Bouncin' off the walls
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
Boom boom boom boom boom boom
    Bouncin' off the walls
    May-Day, I'm fallin'...

What blows my mind is Matthew produced this song which to me, is a complete 180 from Break My Stride. He also ditched the mustache and became something completely different for Bouncin’ Off The Walls. I think it’s pretty cool. I thoroughly enjoy the versatility.

I think there is something to that, video wise and musically and lyrically. Most "hits" are not usually the best song by the given artist because a hit is often dumbed down to the masses and doesn't have much complicated music or lyrics. Compare Joe Jackson's Stepping Out with You Can't Get What You Want Til You Know What you Want or Tears For Fears most famous hits with their lesser known song Working Hour in terms of musical complexity.

By 1984 an industry had been built for creating high quality music videos quickly and cheaply like this one. Unfortunately the music industry hit a recession the next year and the number of great videos dropped a great deal.

He probably relied too much on the music video to sell the song as a single and the single just ultimately didn’t really connect with the public.

People liked “Break My Stride” more than they liked his music in general. It also didn’t help that his relationship with his record company CEO soured by the second album because Wilder apparently refused to allow any of the songwriters and producers the label CEO wanted Wilder to sing with. The label head pretty much didn’t even try to have the album promoted and it contributed to the single and album’s failure.

On this day in 1984 {November 3rd} Matthew Wilder performed "Bouncin' Off The Walls" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
At the time "Bouncin' Off The Walls" was at position #58 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the week before it had peaked at #52 and it spent nine weeks on the Top 100...
And on the same 'Bandstand' show he also performed "Hey Little Girl", it was track three of side one on his second studio album, 'Bouncin' Off The Walls'...
The New York City native had two other Top 100 records, "Break My Stride" {#5 in 1983} and "The Kid's American" {#33 in 1984}...
Matthew Weiner will celebrate his 67th birthday in two months on January 24th, 2020...

He has said he basically was made and broken by record company politics. The head of his record label engaged in basically payola practices to play “Break My Stride” and that’s what got the ball rolling on it being a hit single. Then, when he recorded his second album, his record label head tried to convince him to use his producers and songwriters to contribute songs to the album and Wilder said no. He said the CEO got angry with him and basically didn’t even try to promote the second album and Wilder ended up getting dropped not long after this was made.

+Keshone Elam Actually it wasnt a commercial failure worldwide, it actually was a huge hit in Canada and as well in parts of Florida at clubs. The song still is very much liked among his fan base :)

A Club Hit doesnt say anything about a COMMERCIAL failure or success, just the sales and they had been bad

Such talent and man...that voice! So clear and musical. I always thought when Dennis DeYoung stepped out of Styx that Matthew Wilder would have been a shoe in!
